Elevational and temporal patterns of pollination success in distylous and homostylous buckwheats(Fagopyrum)in the Hengduan mountains

Reproductive strategies of sexually dimorphic plants vary in response to the ***,we ask whether the sexual systems of Fagopyrum species(i.e.,selfing homostylous and out-crossing distylous)represent distinct adaptive strategies to increase reproductive success in changing alpine *** answer this question,we determined how spatial and temporal factors(e.g.,elevation and peak flowering time)affect reproductive success(i.e.,stigmatic pollen load)in nine wild Fagopyrum species(seven distylous and two homostylous)among 28 populations along an elevation gradient of 1299-3315 m in the Hengduan mountains,southwestern *** also observed pollinators and conducted hundreds of hand pollinations to investigate inter/intra-morph compatibility,self-compatibility and pollen limitation in four Fagopyrum species(two distylous and two homostylous).We found that Fagopyrum species at higher elevation generally had bigger flowers and more stigmatic pollen loads;lateflowering individuals had smaller flowers and lower pollen *** pollen deposition was more variable in distylous species than in homostylous *** seed set was not pollenlimited in all species,we found that fruit set was much lower in distylous species,which rely on frequent pollinator visits,than in homostylous species capable of autonomous *** findings that pollination success increases at high elevations and decreases during the flowering season suggest that distylous and homostylous species have spatially and temporally distinct reproductive strategies related to environment-dependent pollinator activity.

Application of a concrete thermal pile in cooling the warming permafrost under climate change

Permafrost degradation caused by climate warming is posing a serious threat to the stability of cast-in-place pile foundations in warm permafrost *** cold energy can be effectively utilized by two-phase closed thermosyphons(TPCTs)to cool the ***,we installed TPCTs in a cast-in-place pile foundation to create a unique structure called a thermal pile,which effectively utilizes the TPCTs to regulate ground *** we conducted a case study and numerical simulation to exhibit the cooling performance,and optimize the structure of the thermal *** purpose of this study is to promote the application of thermal piles in unstable permafrost *** on the findings,the thermal pile operated for approximately 53%of the entire year and effectively reduced the deep ground temperature at a rate of at least-0.1℃per ***,it successfully raised the permafrost table that is 0.35 m shallower than the natural ground *** characteristics prove highly beneficial in mitigating the adverse effects of permafrost degradation and enhancing infrastructure *** the length of the condenser section and the diameter of the TPCT in a suitable manner can effectively enhance the cooling capability of the thermal pile and ensure the long-term mechanical stability of the pile foundation even under climate warming.

Coupled CFD-DEm Numerical Simulation of the Interaction of a Flow-Transported Rag with a Solid Cylinder

A coupled Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element method(CFD-DEm)approach is used to calculate the interaction of a flexible rag transported by a fluid current with a fixed solid *** specifically a hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian approach is used with the rag being modeled as a set of interconnected *** influence of various parameters is considered,namely the inlet velocity(1.5,2.0,and 2.5 m/s,respectively),the angle formed by the initially straight rag with the flow direction(45°,60°and 90°,respectively),and the inlet position(90,100,and 110 mm,respectively).The results show that the flow rate has a significant impact on the permeability of the *** higher the flow rate,the higher the permeability and the rag speed *** angle has a minor effect on rag permeability,with 45°being the most favorable angle for *** inlet position has a small impact on rag permeability,while reducing the initial distance between the rag an the cylinder makes it easier for rags to pass through.

Impact of oxaliplatin and trastuzumab combination therapy on tumor markers and T lymphocyte subsets for advanced gastric cancer

Corilagin alleviates podocyte injury in diabetic nephropathy by regulating autophagy via the SIRT1-AmPK pathway

BACKGROUND Diabetic nephropathy(DN)is the most frequent chronic microvascular consequence of diabetes,and podocyte injury and malfunction are closely related to the development of *** have shown that corilagin(Cor)has hepatoprotective,anti-inflammatory,antibacterial,antioxidant,anti-hypertensive,antidiabetic,and anti-tumor *** To explore the protective effect of Cor against podocyte injury in DN mice and the underlying *** Streptozotocin and a high-fat diet were combined to generate DN mice models,which were then divided into either a Cor group or a DN group(n=8 in each group).mice in the Cor group were intraperitoneally injected with Cor(30 mg/kg/d)for 12 wk,and mice in the DN group were treated with *** analysis was used to measure the blood lipid *** and eosin staining was used to detect pathological changes in kidney *** and Western blotting were used to assess the protein expression of nephrin and *** podocyte cells(mPC5)were cultured and treated with glucose(5 mmol/L),Cor(50μm),high glucose(HG)(30 mmol/L),and HG(30 mmol/L)plus Cor(50μm).Real-time quantitative PCR and Western blotting RESULTS Compared with the control group,the DN mice models had increased fasting blood glucose,glycosylated hemoglobin,triglycerides,and total cholesterol,decreased nephrin and podocin expression,increased apoptosis rate,elevated inflammatory cytokines,and enhanced oxidative *** of the conditions mentioned above were alleviated after intervention with *** addition,Cor therapy improved SIRT1 and AmPK expression(PmPK pathway,thereby exerting its protective impact on renal function in DN mice.

Bilayer Compounded Polytetrafluoroethylene membrane for Enhanced Oil-Water Emulsion Separation

In order to achieve efficient and durable oil-water emulsion separation,the membranes possessing high separation efficiency and mechanical strength attract extensive attention and are in great *** present study,a kind of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)-based bilayer membrane was fabricated by electrospinning fibrous PTFE(fPTFE)on an expanded PTFE(ePTFE)*** morphological observation revealed that the fibrous structure of the fPTFE layer could be tailored by controlling the formulation of spinning *** addition of appropriate polyoxyethylene(PEO)would make the fibers in the fPTFE layer finer and more *** a result,the compounded membrane exhibited a small pore size of approximately 1.25µm and a substantial porosity nearing 80%.This led to super-hydrophobicity,characterized by a high water contact angle(WCA)of 149.8°,and facilitated rapid oil *** water-in-oil emulsion separation experiment further confirmed that the compounded membrane not only had a high separation efficiency closing 100%,but such an outstanding separation capacity could be largely retained,either through multiple cycles of use or through strong acid(pH=1),strong alkali(pH=12),or high-temperature(100°C)***,the mechanical behavior of the bilayer membrane was basically contributed by that of each layer in terms of their volume *** significantly,the poor creep resistance of fPTFE layer was suppressed by compounding with ePTFE ***,this study has laid the groundwork for a novel approach to create PTFE-based compounded membranes with exceptional overall characteristics,showing promise for applications in the realm of emulsion separation.

Insufficient TRPm5 mediates Lipotoxicity-induced Pancreaticβ-cell Dysfunction

Objective:While the reduction of transient receptor potential channel subfamily m member 5(TRPm5)has been reported in islet cells from type 2 diabetic(T2D)mouse models,its role in lipotoxicity-induced pancreaticβ-cell dysfunction remains *** study aims to study its ***:Pancreas slices were prepared from mice subjected to a high-fat-diet(HFD)at different time points,and TRPm5 expression in the pancreaticβcells was examined using immunofluorescence ***-stimulated insulin secretion(GSIS)defects caused by lipotoxicity were mimicked by saturated fatty acid palmitate(Palm).Primary mouse islets and mouse insulinoma mIN6 cells were treated with Palm,and the TRPm5 expression was detected using qRT-PCR and Western ***-induced GSIS defects were measured following siRNA-based Trpm5 *** detrimental effects of Palm on primary mouse islets were also assessed after overexpressing Trpm5 via an adenovirus-derived Trpm5(Ad-Trpm5).Results:HFD feeding decreased the mRNA levels and protein expression of TRPm5 in mouse pancreatic *** reduced TRPm5 protein expression in a time-and dose-dependent manner in mIN6 *** also inhibited TRPm5 expression in primary mouse *** of Trpm5 inhibited insulin secretion upon high glucose stimulation but had little effect on insulin *** of Trpm5 reversed Palm-induced GSIS defects and the production of functional maturation molecules unique toβ***:Our findings suggest that lipotoxicity inhibits TRPm5 expression in pancreaticβcells both in vivo and in vitro and,in turn,drivesβ-cell dysfunction.

Currently,the enhancement in electromagnetic interference(EmI)performance of polymeric composite generally relies on either improving electrical conductivity(σ)for stronger electromagnetic(Em)reflections or tailoring structure for higher Em ***,we proposed a novel technique called cyclic pulsating pressure enhanced segregating structuration(CPP-SS),which can reinforce these two factors *** structural information was supplied by optical microscopy(Om)and scanning electron microscopy(SEm),both of which confirmed the formation and evolution of segregate structured ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHmWPE)/graphene ***,the result showed that CPP-SS can significantly improve theσof ***,advanced specific EmI shielding efficiency of 31.1 d B/mm was achieved for UHmWPE/graphene composite at 1-mm thickness and a low graphene loading of 5 wt%.meanwhile,it also confirmed that the intrinsic disadvantage of poor mechanical properties of conventional segregated structure composites can be *** work is believed to provide a fundamental understanding of the structural and performance evolutions of segregated structured composites prepared under CPPSS,and to bring us a simple and efficient approach for fabricating high-performance,strong and light-weight polymeric EmI shields.
