Correlation between KCnQ1 and KCnJ11 gene polymorphisms and type 2 and posttransplant diabetes mellitus in the Asian Indian population

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and post-transplant diabetes mellitus(PTDM)share a common ***,diabetes mellitus is a complex disease,and T2DM and PTDM have different etiologies.T2DM is a metabolic disorder,characterized by persistent hyperglycemia,whereas PTDM is a condition of abnormal glucose tolerance,with variable onset after organ *** KCnQ1 and KCnJ11 gene encode potassium channels,which mediate insulin secretion from pancreatic b-cells,and KCn gene mutations are correlated with the development of ***,no studies have been carried out to establish an association between KCnQ1 and KCnJ11 gene polymorphisms and T2DM and ***,our study was aimed at the identification of the role of KCnQ1 and KCnJ11 gene polymorphisms associated with T2DM and the risk of developing PTDM in the Asian Indian *** have carried out a caseecontrol study including 250 patients with T2DM,250 control subjects,42 patients with PTDM and 98 subjects with ***-RFLP analysis was carried out following the isolation of genomic DnA from EDTA-blood *** results of the present study reveal that two single nucleotide polymorphisms(rs2283228 and rs5210,of the KCnQ1 and KCnJ11 genes,respectively)are associated with both T2DM and *** results of our study suggest a role of KCnQ1 and KCnJ11 gene variants in the increased risk of T2DM and PTDM in the Asian Indian population.

Interleaved high-gain boost converter powered by solar energy using hybrid-based MPP tracking technique

This paper presents a solar-powered interleaved high-gain boost converter(IHGBC)that increases voltage gain with fewer ripples in the output voltage in comparison to existing DC-DC *** goal of this research is to develop a hybrid-based maximum power point tracking(MPPT)approach with the combination of a flower pollination(FP)algorithm assisted with a perturb&observe(P&O)MPPT approach for solar photovoltaic(SPV)systems integrated with *** ensure effective usage of both FP and P&O algorithms,this study incorporates and validates the hybrid-based MPPT *** proposed solar-powered IHGBC with a hybrid-based MPPT algorithm has been computationally modelled and simulated using MATLAB®and Simulink®for both uniform and non-uniform irradiation and analysed for voltage gain,ripples in the output waveforms and convergence *** proposed hybrid-based MPPT is based on a number of flowers that forecast the initial global peak,assisted by P&O in the last stage for faster convergence to attain the maximum power point(MPP).As a result,the hybrid-based MPPT approach alleviates the computational issues encountered in P&O and FP-based MPP *** proposed hybrid MPPT is compared with conventional MPPT for SPV and the results show that the solar-powered IHGBC using a hybrid-based MPPT technique has negligible oscillations of 0.14%with a high-voltage gain of 7.992 and a fast convergence rate of 0.05 seconds compared to individual P&O-based MPPT and FP-based MPPT *** simulation results of the proposed MPPT with IHGBC outperform the conventional MPPT with high-gain converters.

Surgical treatment of proximal humerus fractures using PHILOS plate

Objective：To evaluate functional outcome and complications of open reduction and internal fixation with proximal humeral internal locking system （PHILOS） plate for proximal humerus ***：We reviewed 51 patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation with PHILOS plate between the years 2007 to *** were 35 men and 16 women with a mean age of 38 years （range 24-68）.There were 41 patients in the age group of ＜60 years and 10 patients in the age group of ＞60 *** to neer classification system,8,15 and 23 patients had 2-part,3-part,and 4-part fractures,respectively and 5 patients had 4-part fracture *** surgeries were carried out at our tertiary care trauma *** evaluation of the shoulder at final follow-up was done using Constant-Murley ***：The mean follow-up period was 30 months （range 12-44 months）.Two patients were lost to *** the remaining 49 patients,all fractures were united clinically and *** mean time for radiological union was 12 weeks （range 8-20 weeks）.At the final follow-up the mean Constant-Murley score was 79 （range 50-100）.The results were excellent in 25 patients,good in 13 patients,fair in 6 patients and poor in 5 *** the follow-up,four cases of varus malunion,one case of subacromial impingement,one case of deep infection,one case of intraarticular screw penetration and one case of failure of fixation were *** cases of avascular necrosis,hardware failure,locking screw loosening or nonunion were ***：PHILOS provides stable fixation in proximal humerus *** prevent potential complications like avascular necrosis,meticulous surgical dissection to preserve vascularity of humeral head is necessary.

Rizatriptan benzoate is a 5HT 1B/1Dreceptor agonist which is prescribed for the treatment of *** the present study new,simple,specific ultraviolet spectrophotometric method for rizatriptan benzoate was developed and *** degradation studies were carried out in acidic,alkaline and neutral pH *** absorbance maxima peak was found to be 224 nm and linearity was observed in the concentration range of 0.5~2.5μg·mL-1 with regression coefficient value of 0.998 *** method was validated and found to be *** percent recovery for rizatriptan benzoate was found to be 98.576±*** bulk drug was found to be stable in neutral and acidic pH conditions but got degraded in 1n naOH solution.

Drained rock volume around hydraulic fractures in porous media:planar fractures versus fractal networks

This study applies the Lindenmayer system based on fractal theory to generate synthetic fracture networks in hydraulically fractured *** applied flow model is based on complex analysis methods,which can quantify the flow near the fractures,and being gridless,is computationally faster than traditional discrete volume *** representation of hydraulic fractures as fractals is a more realistic representation than planar bi-wing fractures used in most reservoir *** withdrawal from the reservoir with evenly spaced hydraulic fractures may leave dead zones between planar *** fractal networks will drain the reservoir matrix more effectively,due to the mitigation of stagnation flow *** flow velocities,pressure response,and drained rock volume(DRV)are visualized for a variety of fractal fracture networks in a single-fracture treatment *** major advancement of this study is the improved representation of hydraulic fractures as complex fractals rather than restricting to planar fracture *** models indicate that when the complexity of hydraulic fracture networks increases,this will suppress the occurrence of dead flow *** order to increase the DRV and improve ultimate recovery,our flow models suggest that fracture treatment programs must find ways to create more complex fracture networks.

Multiple pulmonary nodules on chest x-ray, known commonly as cannon ball secondaries, are the classical presentation of haematogenous dissemination of a malignant tumor to the lungs. This almost always indicates advanced stage of the disease with a very grim outlook in terms of cure or survival. In this report we present a patient with very extensive Cannon Ball Metastases due to advanced colonic malignancy.

Early results of circularity and centration of capsulotomy prepared by three different methods

AIM:To compare the difference of capsulotomy produced by precision pulse capsulotomy(PPC),manual(M-CCC),and femtosecond laser assisted capsulotomy(FLAC)in relation to intraocular lens(IOL)centration,circularity and its effect on visual ***:Prospective,non-randomized comparative study conducted at LV Prasad Eye Institute,Hyderabad,*** eyes of 52 patients were grouped into 3(FLAC,PPC and M-CCC)based on capsulotomy techniques *** consecutive eyes with uneventful phacoemulsification and with no comorbidities affecting the capsulotomy or visual outcome were included in each *** main outcome measure was IOL centration in relation to capsulotomy and *** outcome measures were post-operative visual acuity,manifest refraction and aberration profile between ***:At 5 wk the visual,refractive outcomes and endothelial cell density were comparable between the 3 *** median circularity index of FLAC was statistically significantly different to M-CCC or PPC(1-10)groups(Pnter in relation to capsulotomy was seen only between the PPC(1-10)group and FLAC group(P=0.02).The IOL was well centered in relation to the pupil in all the groups(P=0.46).The quality of vision parameters like the higher order aberrations,spherical aberration,coma,trefoil,modular transfer function,and Strehl ratio were comparable between the ***:Our study shows that despite differences in the morphology of capsulotomy produced by PPC,M-CCC,FLAC a well-centered IOL can be *** measured capsular morphology parameters do not affect visual outcomes.

Atomic layers are sought after for molecular sensing due to their available high surface interaction area,and different types of monolayers are attempted for sensing in the recent ***,their chemical stability towards these molecules is questioned in recent times and alternate methods need to be developed to circumvent such issues,while maintaining high ***,the van der Waals(vdWs)stacks of molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))and graphene are shown for their stable electrochemical sensing towards ascorbic acid(AA)and dopamine(DA)-two important *** is known to chemically react with MoS_(2) leading to unstable sensing platform,while here the graphene coverage is shown to protect the MoS_(2) even from low-energy plasma exposure while keeping the same high *** proving the graphene-based protection of the sensor,such a sensing platform is shown for its applicability in DA sensing,where it is found to give a linear response in a wide range of concentrations(2.5 to 600μmol·L^(−1))and even selective sensing in the presence of *** a stack is found to be not merely giving protection to the beneath MoS_(2) layer but also the inter-layer charge transfer due to work function differences being beneficial in bringing fast and high sensitivity to the next-generation sensors and point-of-care devices.

Vegetables are important constituents of the human diet. Heavy metals and nitrate are among the major contaminants of vegetables. Consumption of vegetables and fruits with accumulated heavy metals and nitrate has the potential to damage different body organs leading to unwanted effects. Breeding vegetables with low heavy metal and nitrate contaminants is a cost-effective approach. We investigated 38 water spinach genotypes for low Cd and nitrate co-accumulation. Four genotypes, i.e. JXDY, GZQL, XGDB, and B888, were found to have low co-accumulation of Cd （〈0.71 mg/kg dry weight） and nitrate （〈3100 mg/kg fresh weight） in the edible parts when grown in soils with moderate contamination of both Cd （1.10 mg/kg） and nitrate （235.2 mg/kg）. These genotypes should be appropriate with mini- mized risk to humans who consume them. The Cd levels in the edible parts of water spinach were positively correlated with the concentration of Pb or Zn, but Cd, Pb, or Zn was negatively correlated with P concentration. These results indicate that these three heavy metals may be absorbed into the plant in similar proportions or in combination, mini- mizing the influx to aerial parts. Increasing P fertilizer application rates appears to prevent heavy metal and nitrate translocation to shoot tissues and the edible parts of water spinach on co-contaminated soils.
