This paper indicates that the performance of tack-back and treatment of electronic waste （e-waste） system can be improved substantially. This can be reached by better taking into account in a better way the big variety in material composition and potential toxicity of electrical and electronic products - from a technical, organizational and regulatory perspective. Realizing that there is no ＇one size fit for all＇ and combining smart tailor made solutions with economic of sale will result in the best environmental gain/cost ratio. Several examples show how science and engineering have supported or will support this approach.

Background:Zooprophylaxis is the use of wild or domestic animals,which are not the reservoir host of a given disease,to divert the blood-seeking malaria vectors from human *** this paper,we systematically reviewed zooprophylaxis to assess its efficacy as a malaria control strategy and to evaluate the possible methods of its ***:The electronic databases,PubMed Central^(■),Web of Science,Science direct,and African Journals Online were searched using the key terms:“zooprophylaxis”or“cattle and malaria”,and reports published between January 1995 and March 2016 were ***-four reports on zooprophylaxis were retained for the systematic ***:It was determined that Anopheles arabiensis is an opportunistic *** has a strong preference for cattle odour when compared to human odour,but feeds on both *** feeding behaviour depends on the available hosts,varying from endophilic and endophagic to exophilic and *** are three essential factors for zooprophylaxis to be effective in practice:a zoophilic and exophilic vector,habitat separation between human and host animal quarters,and augmenting zooprophylaxis with insecticide treatment of animals or co-intervention of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets and/or indoor residual *** zooprophylaxis can be applied only in malaria vector control if cattle and human dwellings are separated in order to avoid the problem of ***:The outcomes of using zooprophylaxis as a malaria control strategy varied across *** is therefore advised to conduct a site-specific evaluation of its effectiveness in vector control before implementing zooprophylaxis as the behaviour of Anopheles arabiensis mosquitoes varies across localities and circumstances.

Hydropower development is the key strategy in many developing countries for energy supply,climate-change mitigation and economic development. However, it is commonly assumed that river dams retain nutrients and therefore reduce downstream primary productivity and fishery catches, compromising food security and causing trans-boundary disputes. Contrary to expectation, here we found that a cascade of reservoirs along the upper Mekong River increased downstream bioavailability of nitrogen and *** dams caused phytoplankton density to increase with hydraulic residence time and stratification of the stagnant reservoirs caused hypoxia at depth. This allowed the release of bioavailable phosphorus from the sediment and an increase in dissolved inorganic nitrogen as well as a shift in nitrogen species from nitrate to ammonium, which were transported downstream by the discharge of water from the base of the dam. Our findings provide a new perspective on the environmental impacts of river dams on nutrient cycling and ecosystem functioning, with potential implications for sustainable development of hydropower worldwide.

This paper discusses the importance of modal meanings in legal *** Systemic Functional Linguistics,modal meanings are choices from the system of modality;they are a pervasive semantic domain with various grammatical *** an interpersonal meaning,realizing tenor,their congruent realization as modal auxiliary verb can "drift",via grammatical metaphor,to a realization as nominalization(such as must to obligation).Thus modal meanings can realize the field,or subjectmatter,of *** scholars,in the discursive tradition of philosophy rather than linguistics,have called such nominalizations "fundamental concepts of legal relations".The paper compares a particular legal model of these relations,that of ***,with the SFL account of *** then discusses the volatility of modal realization,including the conflation of modal meanings,and the particular utility of such realization in specific examples of legal *** includes the use of compound and complex modalities,which does not readily translate into the modal choices of SFL.

Background Increasing resilience is a priority in modern pig *** research shows that general resilience can be quantified via variability in longitudinal *** collection of such longitudinal data on weight,feed intake and feeding behaviour in pigs has been facilitated by the development of technologies such as automated feeding *** goal of this study was to investigate resilience traits,which were estimated as deviations from longitudinal weight,feed intake and feeding behaviour data during the finishing phase.A dataset with 324,207 records between the age of 95 and 155 days on 5,939 Pietrain pigs with known pedigree and genomic information was *** provided guidelines for a rigid quality control of longitudinal body weight data,as we found that outliers can significantly affect *** growth curve analysis,linear modelling and trajectory analyses were used for quantifying resilience *** To our knowledge,this is the first study comparing resilience traits from longitudinal body weight,feed intake and feeding behaviour data in *** demonstrated that the resilience traits are lowly to moderately heritable for deviations in body weight(h2=2.9%–20.2%),in feed intake(9.4%–23.3%)and in feeding behaviour(16.2%–28.3%).Additionally,these traits have good predictive abilities in cross-validation *** in individual body weight and feed intake trajectories are highly correlated(rg=0.78)with low to moderate favourable genetic correlations with feed conversion ratio(rg=0.39–0.49).Lastly,we showed that some resilience traits,such as the natural logarithm of variances of observed versus predicted body weights(lnvarweight),are more robust to lower observation frequencies and are repeatable over three different time periods of the finishing *** Our results will help future studies investigating resilience traits and resilience-related ***,our study provides first results on standardization of

This paper reports the results of the analyses of 17 different Hb variants which were observed in 37 families. High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to separate tryptic and thermolytic peptides of globin chains. The double coupling microsequencing technique can successfully be used for sequencing small or larger peptides.

Splanchnic or gastrointestinal ischemia is rare and randomized studies are absent. This review focuses on new developments in clinical presentation, diagnostic approaches, and treatments. Splanchnic ischemia can be caused by occlusions of arteries or veins and by physiological vasoconstriction during low-flow states. The prevalence of significant splanchnic arterial stenoses is high, but it remains mostly asymptomatic due to abundant collateral circulation. This is known as chronic splanchnic disease (CSD). Chronic splanchnic syndrome (CSS) occurs when ischemic symptoms develop. Ischemic symptoms are characterized by postprandial pain, fear of eating and weight loss. CSS is diagnosed by a test for actual ischemia. Recently, gastro-intestinal tonometry has been validated as a diagnostic test to detect splanchnic ischemia and to guide treatment. In single- vessel CSD, the complication rate is very low, but some patients have ischemic complaints, and can be treated successfully. In multi-vessel stenoses, the complication rate is considerable, while most have CSS and treatment should be strongly considered. CT and MR-based angiographic reconstruction techniques have emerged as alternatives for digital subtraction angiography for imaging of splanchnic vessels. Duplex ultrasound is still the first choice for screening purposes. The strengths and weaknesses of each modality will be discussed. CSS may be treated by minimally invasive endoscopic treatment of the celiac axis compression syndrome, endovascular antegrade stenting, or laparotomy-assisted retrograde endovascular recanalization and *** treatment plan is highly individualized and is mainly based on precise vessel anatomy, body weight, co- morbidity and severity of ischemia.
