Ophthalmology in the time of cOVID-19: experience from Hong Kong Eye Hospital

AIM:To review international guidelines and to share our infection control experience during the coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19)pandemic at a tertiary eye centre in Hong ***:Infection control guidelines and recommendations from international ophthalmological bodies are reviewed and *** measures at our hospital were drawn up as per international and local health authorities’guidelines and implemented with the collaboration of doctors,nurses and administrative ***:The aims of our infection control measures are to 1)minimize cross-infection within the hospital;2)protect and support hospital staff;3)ensure environmental *** minimize the risk of cross-infection,outpatient attendance and elective surgery have been reduced by 40%,and general anesthesia procedures were reduced by 90%.Patients entering the hospital are screened for fever,travel history,contact and cluster history,and cOVID-19 related *** protect and support hospital staff,we ensure provision of adequate personal protective equipment(PPE)and provide clear guidelines on the level of PPE needed,depending on the clinical *** protective measures include provision of work uniforms,easy access to alcohol-based hand rub,opening new lunch areas,implementation of self-monitoring and self-reporting systems,and communication via online education and ***,environmental control is achieved by ensuring regular disinfection of the hospital premise,enhancing ventilation,and usage of disposable ophthalmic ***:Our multi-pronged approach to infection control is,so far,successful in minimizing infection risks,while allowing the maintenance of essential ophthalmic services.

Uptake of prostate cancer screening and associated factors among chinese men aged 50 or more: a population-based survey

Objective: To investigate the uptake rate of prostate specific antigen(PSA) testing among Hong Kong chinese males aged 50 or above, and identify factors associated with the likelihood of undergoing a PSA ***: A population-based telephone survey was conducted in Hong Kong in 2007. The survey covered demographic information, perceived health status, use of complementary therapy, cancer screening behavior, perceived susceptibility to cancer and family history of cancer. Descriptive statistics, percentages and logistic regression analysis were used for data ***: A total of 1,002 men aged 50 or above took part in the study(response rate =67%), and the uptake rate of PSA testing was found to be 10%. Employment status, use of complementary therapy, perceiving regular visits to a doctor as good for health and the recommendations of health professionals were significant factors associated with PSA ***: The uptake rate of PSA testing in the study population was very low. Among all the factors identified, recommendations from health professionals had the strongest association with the uptake of PSA testing, and they should therefore take an active role in educating this population about cancer prevention and detection.

The authors investigate the stability of a steady ideal plane flow in an arbitrary domain in terms of the L^2 norm of the vorticity. Linear stability implies nonlinear instability provided the growth rate of the linearized system exceeds the Liapunov exponent of the flow. In contrast,a maximizer of the entropy subject to constant energy and mass is stable. This implies the stability of certain solutions of the mean field equation.

The internal friction and precipitate phases of the deformed Fe-P-N alloys have been investigated. It has been found that the ratio of depends on the content of P and the relation holds if the content of N is lower than *** and the content of P is lower than ***. It shows that the intercept K2 is related to the presence of the atomic pairs and clusters of P in the alloy matrix.

A family study of endophenotypes for psychosis within an early intervention programme in Hong Kong: Rationale and preliminary findings

The study of endophenotypes may be a viable strategy to tackle the genetic complexity and phenotypic heterogeneity of psychosis, but this research direction is relatively under-developed in china as compared to western countries. we have recently initiated one of the first family studies of endophenotypes for psychosis in china. Patients entering an established early psychosis intervention service are recruited into this research project for phenotyping, endophenotyping and genotyping. At the endophenotypic level, four domains (neurological soft signs, neurocognition of prospective memory, social cognition of facial emotion recognition, and affective cognition of anticipatory and consummatory pleasure) are studied in the sample of patients with psychosis and their unaffected siblings. This article illustrates the benefit of a research-oriented clinical programme and its findings based on the data collected as of early 2011.

To study the temperature distribution and thermal-stress field in different service stages, a two-dimensional model of a turbine blade with thermal barrier coatings is developed, in which the conjugate heat transfer analysis and the decoupled thermal-stress calculation method are adopted. Based on the simulation results, it is found that a non-uniform distribution of temperature appears in different positions of the blade surface, which has directly impacted on stress field. The maximum temperature with a value of 1030 ℃ occurs at the leading edge. During the steady stage, the maximum stress of thermally grown oxide （TGO） appears in the middle of the suction side, reaching 3.75 GPa. At the end stage of cooling, the maximum compressive stress of TGO with a value of-3.5 GPa occurs at the leading edge. Thus, it can be predicted that during the steady stage the dangerous regions may locate at the suction side, while the leadine edge mav be more Drone to failure on cooling.

Multiple Soliton Solutions of Alice–Bob Boussinesq Equations

Three Alice-Bob Boussinesq(ABB) nonlocal systems with shifted parity■, delayed time reversal■ and ■ nonlocalities are investigated. The multi-soliton solutions of these models are systematically found from the ■ symmetry reductions of a coupled local Boussinesq system. The result shows that for ABB equations with ■ nonlocality, an odd number of solitons is prohibited. The solitons of the ■ nonlocal ABB and ■ nonlocal ABB equations must be paired, while any number of solitons is allowed for the ■ nonlocal ABB system. t-breathers, x-breathers and rogue waves exist for all three types of nonlocal ABB *** particular, different from classical local cases, the first-order rogue wave can have not only four leaves but also five and six leaves.

The effects of acyclic liquid nitrogen(LN)treatment in a temperature range of-196℃to 50℃on the thermal and magnetic stability of Fe78Si9B13 and Fe73.5Si13.5B9Nb3cu1 glassy ribbons have been *** intrinsic heterogeneities of the metallic glasses can be activated through cryogenic thermal cycling,making irreversible structural changes after the treatment and inducing rejuvenation to the *** microstructural changes of both Fe-based metallic glass(MG)and nanocrystalline alloy induced by LN treatment were *** experimental results show that the LN treatment could effectively rejuvenate the Fe-Si-B MGs and change their thermomechanical and magnetic *** on the partially-crystallinity and well-known magnetic constants,the increase of the energy at the order of 10m J/g and magnetic domain wall movement and rotation at the order of 5-6μm and 0.5°-0.8°are found for FINEMET-type amorphous alloy after LN *** is also found that LN treatment can contribute a little stored energy to the magnetic domain wall movement and magnetic domain rotation.
