Influence of Incomplete Soil Plugs on Bearing Capacities of Bucket Foundations in Clay

Due to the uneven seabed and heaving of soil during pumping,incomplete soil plugs may occur during the installation of bucket foundations,and the impacts on the bearing capacities of bucket foundations need to be *** this paper,the contact ratio(the ratio of the top diameter of the soil plug to the diameter of the bucket)and the soil plug ratio(the ratio of the soil heave height to the skirt height)are defined to describe the shape and size of the incomplete soil ***,finite element models are established to investigate the bearing capacities of bucket foundations with incomplete soil plugs and the influences of the contact ratios,and the soil plug ratios on the bearing capacities are *** results show that the vertical bearing capacity of bucket foundations in homogeneous soil continuously improves with the increase of the contact ***,in normally consolidated soil,the vertical bearing capacity barely changes when the contact ratio is smaller than 0.75,while the bearing capacity suddenly increases when the contact ratio increases to 1 due to the change of failure *** contact ratio hardly affects the horizontal bearing capacity of bucket ***,the moment bearing capacity improves with the increase of the contact ratio for small aspect ratios,but hardly varies with increasing contact ratio for aspect ratios larger than ***,the reduction coefficient method is proposed based on this analysis to calculate the bearing capacities of bucket foundations considering the influence of incomplete soil *** comparison results show that the proposed reduction coefficient method can be used to evaluate the influences of incomplete soil plug on the bearing capacities of bucket foundations.

PdPtBi networked nanowires derived from Pd nanosheets as efficient catalysts for ethanol oxidation

Direct ethanol fuel cells(DEFCs)have received increasing attention as one of the most promising energy conversion ***,developing catalysts with high activity,long durability and strong anti-poisoning ability for ethanol oxidation is still ***,using Pd nanosheets as sacrificial templates,we have successfully synthesized PdPtBi networked nanowires(NWs)to improve the activity and stability for ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR)due to the addition of *** functional theory(DFT)calculations demonstrated the downshift of d-band center of Pd,which is beneficial to suppress CO poisoning and boost reaction kinetics for ***,the PdPtBi networked NWs exhibited the highest activity(11.08 A·mg_(Pd+Pt)^(-1)and 92.52 mA·cm^(-2))with an enhancement of 4.4 and 17.5 times relative to those of Pd/C,respectively and best stability with a 47.2%left versus only a 5.8%left for Pd/C of mass activity after 3,600 s towards *** work deepens the understanding of controllable preparation of networked NWs and provides an effective strategy to design advanced catalysts with high activity and stability.

Experimental investigation of the full coverage film cooling effectiveness of a turbine blade with shaped holes

The film cooling effectiveness of two turbine blades at different turbulence intensities(0.62%and 16.00%)and mass flux ratios(2.91%,5.82%,8.73%and 11.63%)is studied by using the Pressure-Sensitive Paint(PSP)measurement *** are a baseline and an improved turbine blade in current work,and their film cooling hole position distribution is the *** the hole shape on suction surface and pressure surface is changed from cylindrical hole(baseline)to laid-back fan-shaped hole(improved blade).Both blades have 5 rows of cylindrical holes at the leading edge and 4 rows of cooling-holes on the suction surface and the pressure *** experimental results show that the film cooling effectiveness of the improved blade is much better than the *** increase in turbulence intensity will reduce the cooling effectiveness on the surface of turbine blade,but the effect of turbulence intensity becomes weaker with an increase in the mass flux *** with the multiple rows of cylindrical holes,the cooling effectiveness of shaped holes is more influenced by the turbulence intensity at low mass flux ratio.

Passive scalar mixing induced by the formation of compressible vortex rings

This study aims to determine the relationship between the physical features of a compressible vortex and the mixing *** relationship is of significant importance to design combustors that can achieve optimal or most effective *** passive scalar mixing induced by the formation of a canonical compressible vortex ring(CVR)generated at the end of a shock tube is investigated by using numerical *** addition,the method of finite-time Lyapunov exponent(FTLE)field are detected to identify the region of CVR,as well as to analyze the passive scalar mixing during the CVR *** the CVR rolls up,the ambient fluid outside the shock tube is entrained into the *** entrainment fraction(the mass of entrained fluid to the total mass of CVR)is found to strongly depend on two features of *** is the compressibility of CVRs,which is characterized by the Mach number of the incident shock denoted by Mach number(Ma).The other is pinch-off of CVRs,which happens at a certain timescale with narrow range of 2–*** Ma increases,the entrainment fraction of the leading CVR decreases linearly due to smaller vortex core and weaker radial diffusion of vorticity generated by larger *** CVRs pinch off,trailing vortices appear and show less effective at entrainment than the leading CVRs ***,the tendency of the rate of entrainment is *** results indicate that increasing compressibility and total fluid flux are in favor of the rate of entrainment but restrain the entrainment fraction of total jet.

SIRT1 inhibits apoptosis of human lens epithelial cells through suppressing endoplasmic reticulum stress in vitro and in vivo

This study presents a method for measuring the imbalance in a small-sized cylindrical *** roller imbalance was calibrated on the built static-pressure-air flotation measurement *** impact of the roller imbalance on the dynamic characteristics of a cage were then studied on the aero-bearing test *** displacement spectrums with different roller imbalance of the obtained cage orbits under various bearing speed and radial load were used to evaluate the cage *** results show that the cage cannot form a stable operating state at a lower bearing speed with or without the unbalanced *** cage with balanced rollers gradually develops stable motion with the increase of the bearing *** existence of a small roller imbalance causes the stability of the cage to *** an increase in the bearing speed and radial load,the cage with the unbalanced rollers runs unsteadily accompanied by a high-frequency vibration when the roller imbalance is large *** vibration amplitude of the cage in the horizontal direction is greater than that in the vertical direction during an unstable operation,which is similar in the stable status.

Heavy metal pollution characteristics and health evaluation of farmland soil in a gold mine slag area of Luoyang in China

The characteristics of eight heavy metals(lead,zinc,copper,nickel,chromium,cadmium,mercury and arsenic)in the surface soil of the historical slag area of the Au ore dressing plant in the South-West of Luoyang City were investigated and evaluated in terms of a pollution index,potential ecological hazards and health *** results showed that the average amounts of the heavy metals Pb,Zn and As in the soils of plots S3,S5,S7,S12 and S18 exceeded the soil pollution risk screening *** Mero comprehensive pollution index in plots S7,S12 and S18 was greater than 3,indicating severe *** severe pollution plot integrated the potential ecological risk index(RI)of each sampling point,which was in the order of RI_(S12)>RI_(S18)>RI_(S7)>RI_(S5)>RI_(S3).Among the heavy metals,Cd poses the greatest threat to ecological and human *** effects of heavy metals in soil on the single non-carcinogenic health risk index(HQ)and the non-carcinogenic total risk index through three exposure pathways were in the order of HQ_(Hg)
