Treatment of acute and chronic wounds is one of the primary challenges faced by doctors.Bioderived materials have significant potential clinical value in tissue injury treatment and defect reconstruction.Various strategies,including drug loading,addition of metallic element(s),crosslinking and combining two or more distinct types of materials with complementary features,have been used to synthesize more suitable materials for wound healing.In this review,we describe the recent developments made in the processing of bioderived materials employed for cutaneous wound healing,including newly developed materials such as keratin and soy protein.The focus was on the key properties of the bioderived materials that have shown great promise in improving wound healing,restoration and reconstruction.With their good biocompatibility,nontoxic catabolites,microinflammation characteristics,as well as their ability to induce tissue regeneration and reparation,the bioderived materials have great potential for skin tissue repair.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)is the standard treatment for early-stage gastric cancer,but the large post-operative ulcers caused by ESD often lead to serious side effects.Post-ESD mu-cosal repair materials provide a new option for the treatment of post-ESD ulcers.In this study,we developed a polyurethane/small intestinal submucosa(PU/SIS)hydrogel and investigated its effi-cacy for accelerating ESD-induced ulcer healing in a canine model.PU/SIS hydrogel possessed great biocompatibility and distinctive pH-sensitive swelling properties and protected GES-1 cells from acid attack through forming a dense film in acidic conditions in vitro.Besides,PU/SIS gels present a strong bio-adhesion to gastric tissues under acidic conditions,thus ensuring the reten-tion time of PU/SIS gels in vivo.In a canine model,PU/SIS hydrogel was easily delivered via endoscopy and adhered to the ulcer sites.PU/SIS hydrogel accelerated gastric ulcer healing at an early stage with more epithelium regeneration and slight inflammation.Our findings reveal PU/SIS hydrogel is a promising and attractive candidate for ESD-induced ulcer repair.

Recently, the magnetic topological insulator(TI) MnBi2Te4 emerged as a competitive platform to realize quantum anomalous Hall(QAH) states. We report a Berry curvature splitting mechanism to realize the QAH effect in the disordered magnetic TI multilayers when switching from an antiferromagnetic order to a ferromagnetic order. We reveal that the splitting of spin-resolved Berry curvature, originating from the separation of the critical points during the magnetic switching, can give rise to a QAH insulator. We present a global phase diagram, and also provide a phenomenological picture to elucidate the Berry curvature splitting mechanism by the evolution of topological charges. At last, we predict that the Berry curvature splitting mechanism will lead to a reentrant QAH effect, which can be detected by tuning the gate voltage. Our theory will be instructive for the studies of the QAH effect in MnBi2Te4 in future experiments.

Lipoxygenase(LOXs)is a kind of dioxygenase without heme and iron,which plays an important role in the development and adaptation of many plants to the environment.However,the study of strawberry LOX gene family has not been reported.In this study,14 LOX genes were identified from the diploid woodland strawberry genome.The phylogenetic tree divides the FvLOX gene into two subfamilies:9-LOX and 13-LOX.Gene duplication event analysis showed that whole-genome duplication(WGD)/segmental duplication and dispersed duplication effectively promoted the expansion of strawberry LOX family.QRT-PCR analysis showed that FvLOX genes were expressed in different tissues.Expression profile analysis showed that FvLOX1 and FvLOX8 were up-regulated under low temperature stress,FvLOX3 and FvLOX7 were up-regulated under drought stress,FvLOX6 and FvLOX9 were up-regulated under salt stress,FvLOX2,FvLOX3 and FvLOX6 were up-regulated under salicylic acid(SA)treatment,FvLOX3,FvLOX11 and FvLOX14 were up-regulated under methyl jasmonate(MeJA)treatment,FvLOX4 and FvLOX14 were up-regulated under abscisic acid(ABA)treatment.Promoter analysis showed that FvLOX genes were involved in plant growth and development and stress response.We analyzed and identified the whole genome of strawberry FvLOX family and characterized a variety of FvLOX candidate genes involved in abiotic stress response.This study laid a theoretical and empirical foundation for the response mechanism of strawberry to abiotic stress.

Changes in the Cytokine Profiles of Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B during Antiviral Therapy

Objective To investigate the changes in the cytokine profiles of chronic hepatitis B(CHB)patients undergoing antiviral treatment.Methods Hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)-positive patients were treated with Pegylated interferon(PEGIFN)and entecavir(ETV).Clinical biochemistry and cytokines were detected at baseline and every 3 months.Results In all,200 patients completed 48 weeks of treatment,100 in the PEG-IFN group and 100 in the ETV group.During 3–6 months of treatment,compared with baseline,the PEG-IFN group showed a significant decrease in interferon-gamma(IFN-γ),interleukin-17 A(IL-17 A),interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-10(IL-10),and transforming growth factor beta(TGF-β)(P<0.001)and a significant increase in interferon-alpha 2(IFN-α2)(P<0.001).In the ETV group,IL-10 and TGF-β1 decreased significantly(P<0.001).After 3 months,the levels of IFN-α2,IL-17 A,and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)in the PEGIFN group were significantly higher than those in the ETV group(P<0.01).The levels of IL-6 and TGF-β3 were significantly lower than those in the ETV group(P<0.01).After 6 months,the levels of IFN-α2,IFN-γ,and TNF-αin the PEG-IFN group were significantly higher than those in the ETV group(P<0.01),while the levels of IL-6 and TGF-β3 were significantly lower than those in the ETV group(P<0.01).Compared with ETV,PEG-IFN had higher HBeAg and HBsAg disappearance rates.Conclusion During antiviral therapy,a change in the cytokine profile occurred;in the aspect of immune control and functional cure,PEG-IFN was significantly better than ETV.

Injection laryngoplasty with biomaterials is an effective technique to treat glottic insufficiency.However,the inadequate durability,deficient pro-secretion of extracellular matrix(ECM)and poor functional preservation of current biomaterials have yielded an unsatisfactory therapeutic effect.Herein,a self-fusing bioactive hydrogel comprising modified carboxymethyl chitosan and sodium alginate is developed through a dual-crosslinking mechanism(photo-triggered and dynamic covalent bonds).Owing to its characteristic networks,the synergistic effect of the hydrogel for vocal folds(VFs)vibration and phonation is adequately demonstrated.Notably,owing to its inherent bioactivity of polysaccharides,the hydrogel could significantly enhance the secretion of major components(type I/III collagen and elastin)in the lamina propria of the VFs both in vivo and in vitro.In a rabbit model for glottic insufficiency,the optimized hydrogel(C1A1)has demonstrated a durability far superior to that of the commercially made hyaluronic acid(HA)Gel.More importantly,owing to the ECM-inducing bioactivity,the physiological functions of the VFs treated with the C1A1 hydrogel also outperformed that of the HA Gel,and were similar to those of the normal VFs.Taken together,through a simple-yet-effective strategy,the novel hydrogel has demonstrated outstanding durability,ECM-inducing bioactivity and physiological function preservation,therefore has an appealing clinical value for treating glottic insufficiency.

Elemental mercury removal from coal gas by CeMnTi sorbents and their regeneration performance

Ce and Mn modified TiO_(2) sorbents(CeMnTi) were prepared by a co-precipitation method,and their ability to remove elemental mercury from coal gas in a fixed bed reactor was studied.Based on results of Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) studies,the modification mechanisms of the CeMnTi sorbents are discussed.Mn doping improved the specific surface area and dispersion of cerium oxides on the sorbent surface,while Ce doping increased the proportion of Mn^(4+)in manganese oxides by a synergetic effect between manganese oxides and cerium oxides.The effects of the active component,temperature,and coal gas components on the mercury removal performance of the sorbents were investigated.The results showed that the CeMnTi sorbents exhibited high mercury removal efficiency.Ce_(0.2)Mn_(0.1)Ti adsorbed 91.55% elemental mercury from coal gas at 160℃.H2 S and O2 significantly improved the ability of sorbents to remove mercury.Part of the H2_(S) formed stable sulfates or sulfites through a series of oxidation reaction chains on the sorbent surface.HCl also improved the mercury removal performance,but reduced the promotion effect of H2_(S) for mercury removal when coexisting with H2_(S).CO and H2 had a minor inhibitory effect on mercury adsorption.The recycling performance of the sorbents was investigated by thermal regeneration.The thermal decomposition of the used sorbents indicated that mercury compounds were present mainly in the form of HgO and HgS,and higher temperature was beneficial for regeneration.The formation of sulfates and sulfites in the presence of H2_(S) led to a decrease in mercury removal efficiency.

Introduction:Oral fluids(OFs)have been broadly used as non-invasive samples for evaluating protective IgG antibodies from natural infection or vaccination,especially in pediatric populations.Methods:Paired OF and serum were collected from both individuals who received a booster dose of the inactive coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccine as well as those who did not have a history of COVID-19 vaccination and infection(as the control group).The total human IgG antibody(HIgG)content was evaluated as a marker of OF sampling quality.An in-house adapted magnetic particle-based chemiluminescence immunoassay was used for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)IgG antibody detection in the OF.The SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody in the serum samples was detected using a commercial immunoassay.Results:In total,579 paired OF and serum samples were collected.An additional 172 OF samples were collected from preschool children.The results indicated that the HIgG concentration in qualified OF samples should be higher than 0.3μg/mL.Compared to the serum assay,the in-house OF immunoassay for detecting IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 had 95.06%accuracy,95.03%sensitivity,and 100%specificity.Conclusions:Overall,the in-house immunoassay for detecting SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in OF showed high potential for application towards serological surveillance and immunization effect assessment after large-scale,inactive COVID-19 vaccination in China.

KangFuXinYe(KFX),the ethanol extract of the dried whole body of Periplaneta americana,is a well-known important Chinese medicine preparation that has been used to treat digestive diseases such as gastric ulcers for many years in China.However,its therapeutic effect and mechanism are not yet well understood.Thus,the aim of this study was to investigate the gastroprotective effects of KangFuXinYe(KFX)in indomethacin-induced gastric damage.Rats were randomly divided into six groups as follows:control,treated with indomethacin(35 mg·kg^-1),different dosages of KFX(2.57,5.14 and 10.28 mL·kg^-1,respectively)plus indomethacin,and sucralfate(1.71 mL·kg^-1)plus indomethacin.After treatment,rat serum,stomach and gastric homogenates were collected for biochemical tests and examination of histopathology firstly.Rat serum was further used for metabolomics analysis to research possible mechanisms.Our results showed that KFX treatment alleviated indomethacin-induced histopathologic damage in rat gastric mucosa.Meanwhile,its treatment significantly increased cyclooxygenase-1(COX-1),prostaglandin E2(PGE2)and epidermal growth factor(EGF)levels in rat serum and gastric mucosa.Moreover,KFX decreased cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)and interleukin-6(IL-6)levels.Nine metabolites were identified which intensities significantly changed in gastric damage rats,including 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid,indoxylsulfuric acid,indolelactic acid,4-hydroxyindole,pantothenic acid,isobutyryl carnitine,3-methyl-2-oxovaleric acid,sphingosine 1-phosphate,and indometacin.These metabolic deviations came to closer to normal levels after KFX intervention.The results indicate that KFX(10.28 mL·kg^-1)exerts protective effects on indomethacin-induced gastric damage by possible mechanisms of action(regulating tryptophan metabolism,protecting the mitochondria,and adjusting lipid metabolism,and reducing excessive indomethacin).
