Selective Hydrodeoxygenation of Lignin-Derived Vanillin via Hetero-Structured High-Entropy Alloy/Oxide Catalysts

The chemoselective hydrodeoxygenation of natural lignocellulosic materials plays a crucial role in converting biomass into value-added *** their complex molecular structures often require multiple active sites synergy for effective activation and achieving high ***,it is reported that a high-entropy alloy(HEA)on high-entropy oxide(HEO)hetero-structured catalyst for highly active,chemoselective,and robust vanillin *** heterogenous HEA/HEO catalysts were prepared by thermal reduction of senary HEOs(NiZnCuFeAlZrO_(x)),where exsolvable metals(e.g.,Ni,Zn,Cu)in situ emerged and formed randomly dispersed HEA nanoparticles anchoring on the HEO *** catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic performance:100%conversion of vanillin and 95%selectivity toward high-value 2-methyl-4 methoxy phenol at low temperature of 120℃,which were attributed to the synergistic effect among HEO matrix(with abundant oxygen vacancies),anchored HEA nanoparticles(having excellent hydrogenolysis capability),and their intimate hetero-interfaces(showing strong electron transferring effect).Therefore,our work reported the successful construction of HEA/HEO heterogeneous catalysts and their superior multifunctionality in biomass conversion,which could shed light on catalyst design for many important reactions that are complex and require multifunctional active sites.

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries with advantages of high energy densities(2600 Wh·kg^(-1)/2800 Wh·L^(-1))and sulfur abundance are regarded as promising candidates for next-generation high-energy ***,the conventional carbon host used in sulfur cathodes suffers from poor chemical adsorption towards Li-polysulfides(LPS)in liquid electrolyte and sluggish redox kinetics,leading to low capacity and rate ***,carbon host used in Li metal anode with the intrinsic property of poor lithiophilicity and high Li-nucleation barrier gives rise to uncontrollable dendrite growth and further battery ***,non-carbon hosts with chemical adsorption toward LPS and catalytic activity for accelerating LPS redox conversion as well as lithiophilic property for guiding uniform Li deposition are proposed and demonstrated a high efficiency in both sulfur cathodes and Li metal *** this review,the principle and challenges of Li-S batteries are first presented,then recent work using non-carbon hosts in Li-S batteries is summarized comprehensively,and the mechanism of non-carbon host in improving sulfur utilization and stabilizing Li metal anode is discussed in ***,remaining challenges and outlook on the implementation of non-carbon host for practical carbon-free Li-S batteries are also provided.

MicroRNAs as novel molecular targets of green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate(EGCG): relevance and importance to nutrition sciences and cancer prevention

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of single-stranded and non-coding endogenous RNAs with 18-25 nucleotides in length. By binding to the complementary sequences in the 3’untranslated region (3’UTR) of protein coding genes， miRNAs regulate posttranscriptionally the mRNA expression of target genes and enzymes involved in various biological processes. The application of high-throughput sequencing， bioinformatics analysis， and novel detection methods has high-lighted promising roles of miRNAs as both novel biomarkers for tumor diagnosis and critical regulators involved in almost all stages of carcinogenesis including cancer initiation， promotion and progression. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)， the most investigated active catechin in green tea， has been linked to various health-promoting benefits including chemoprevention and treatment of cancers. In this review， we first present a brief description of EGCG and its major metabolic pathway. It is followed by reviewing the roles of EGCG in the modulation of oncogenic and tumor suppressing miRNAs in some common cancers. These findings suggest that the capacity of EGCG to regulate expression of specific miRNAs provides insights of its new mechanisms of action underlying its chemopreventive and potential beneficial activities against various cancers.

A simple route for preparation of TRIP-assisted Si-Mn steel with excellent performance using direct strip casting

The complex producing procedures and high energy-consuming limit the large-scale production and application of advanced high-strength steels(AHSSs).In this study,the direct strip casting(DSC)technology with unique sub-rapid solidification characteristics and cost advantages was applied to the production of low-alloy Si-Mn steel with the help of quenching&partitioning(q&P)concept to address these *** this method with the conventional compact strip production(CSP)process,the initial microstructure formed under different solidification conditions and the influence of heat treatment processes on the final mechanical properties were *** results show that the initial structure of the DSC sample is a dual-phase structure composed of fine lath martensite and bainite,while the initial structure of the CSP sample consists of pearlite and *** volume fraction and carbon content of retained austenite(RA)in DSC samples are usually higher than those in CSP samples after the same q&P *** samples typically demonstrate better comprehensive mechanical properties than the CSP *** DSC sample partitioned at 300℃ for 300 s(DSC-Pt300)achieves the best comprehensive mechanical properties,with yield strength(YS)of 1282 MPa,ultimate tensile strength(UTS)of 1501 MPa,total elongation(TE)of 21.5%,and product of strength and elongation(PSE)as high as 32.3 GPa·%.These results indicate that the excellent mechanical properties in low-alloy Si-Mn steel can be obtained through a simple process(DSC-q&P),which also demonstrates the superiority of DSC technology in manufacturing AHSSs.

Hypomethylation of glycine dehydrogenase promoter in peripheral blood mononuclear cells is a new diagnostic marker of hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma

Background: Glycine dehydrogenase(GLDC) plays an important role in the initiation and proliferation of several human cancers. In this study, we aimed to detect the methylation status of GLDC promoter and its diagnostic value for hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma(HBV-HCC). Methods: We enrolled 197 patients, 111 with HBV-HCC, 51 with chronic hepatitis B(CHB), and 35 healthy controls(HCs). The methylation status of GLDC promoter in peripheral mononuclear cells(PBMCs) was identified by methylation specific polymerase chain reaction(MSP). The mRNA expression was examined using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(q PCR). Results: The methylation frequency of the GLDC promoter was significantly lower in HBV-HCC patients(27.0%) compared to that in CHB patients(68.6%) and HCs(74.3%)( P quency of GLDC promoter was lower in PBMCs from HBV-HCC patients than that from patients with CHB and HCs. The combination of AFP and GLDC promoter hypomethylation significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy of HBV-HCC.

Associative Tasks Computing Offloading Scheme in Internet of Medical Things with Deep Reinforcement Learning

The Internet of Medical Things(Io MT) is regarded as a critical technology for intelligent healthcare in the foreseeable 6G era. Nevertheless, due to the limited computing power capability of edge devices and task-related coupling relationships, Io MT faces unprecedented challenges. Considering the associative connections among tasks, this paper proposes a computing offloading policy for multiple-user devices(UDs) considering device-to-device(D2D) communication and a multi-access edge computing(MEC)technique under the scenario of Io MT. Specifically,to minimize the total delay and energy consumption concerning the requirement of Io MT, we first analyze and model the detailed local execution, MEC execution, D2D execution, and associated tasks offloading exchange model. Consequently, the associated tasks’ offloading scheme of multi-UDs is formulated as a mixed-integer nonconvex optimization problem. Considering the advantages of deep reinforcement learning(DRL) in processing tasks related to coupling relationships, a Double DqN based associative tasks computing offloading(DDATO) algorithm is then proposed to obtain the optimal solution, which can make the best offloading decision under the condition that tasks of UDs are associative. Furthermore, to reduce the complexity of the DDATO algorithm, the cacheaided procedure is intentionally introduced before the data training process. This avoids redundant offloading and computing procedures concerning tasks that previously have already been cached by other UDs. In addition, we use a dynamic ε-greedy strategy in the action selection section of the algorithm, thus preventing the algorithm from falling into a locally optimal solution. Simulation results demonstrate that compared with other existing methods for associative task models concerning different structures in the Io MT network, the proposed algorithm can lower the total cost more effectively and efficiently while also providing a tradeoff between delay and energy co

Objective To clarify the potential mechanism of Banxia Xiexin Decoction(BXD)on colorectal cancer(CRC)from the perspective of *** Forty male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal control(NC),azoxymethane/dextran sulfate sodium(AOM/DSS)model,low-dose BXD(L-BXD),high-dose BXD(H-BXD)and mesalamine(MS)groups according to a random number table,8 mice in each *** cancer model was induced by AOM/*** was administered daily at doses of 3.915(L-BXD)and 15.66 g/kg(H-BXD)by gavage for consecutive 21 days,and 100 mg/kg MS was used as positive *** the entire modeling cycle,colon length of mice was measured and quantity of colorectal tumors were *** spleen and thymus index were determined by calculating the spleen/thymus weight to body *** cytokine and changes of serum metabolites were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits and ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole/time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-q/TOF-MS),*** Notably,BXD supplementation protected against weight loss,mitigated tumor formation,and diminished histologic damage in mice treated with AOM/DSS(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Moreover,BXD suppressed expression of serum inflammatory enzymes,and improved the spleen and thymus index(P<0.05).Compared with the normal group,102 kinds of differential metabolites were screened in the AOM/DSS group,including 48 potential biomarkers,involving 18 main metabolic *** 18 potential biomarkers related to CRC were identified,and the anti-CRC mechanism of BXD was closely related to D-glutamine and D-glutamate metabolism,phenylalanine,tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis,arginine biosynthesis,nitrogen metabolism and so *** BXD exerts partial protective effects on AOM/DSS-induced CRC by reducing inflammation,protecting organism immunity ability,and regulating amino acid metabolism.

Comparison of the clinical effects of dual-modality endoscopy and traditional laparotomy for the treatment of intra-and extrahepatic bile duct stones

BACKGROUND Bile duct stones(BDSs)may cause patients to develop liver cirrhosis or even liver ***,the success rate of surgical treatment for intrahepatic and extrahepatic BDSs is not satisfactory,and there is a risk of postoperative *** To compare the clinical effects of dual-modality endoscopy(duodenoscopy and laparoscopy)with those of traditional laparotomy in the treatment of intra-and extrahepatic *** Ninety-five patients with intra-and extrahepatic BDSs who sought medical services at Wuhan No.1 Hospital between August 2019 and May 2023 were selected;45 patients in the control group were treated by traditional laparotomy,and 50 patients in the research group were treated by dual-modality *** following factors were collected for analysis:curative effects,safety(incision infection,biliary fistula,lung infection,hemobilia),surgical factors[surgery time,intraoperative blood loss(IBL)volume,gastrointestinal function recovery time,and length of hospital stay],serum inflammatory markers[tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α,interleukin(IL)-6,and IL-8],and oxidative stress[glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px),superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA),and advanced protein oxidation products(AOPPs)].RESULTS The analysis revealed markedly better efficacy(an obviously higher total effective rate)in the research group than in the control *** addition,an evidently lower postoperative complication rate,shorter surgical duration,gastrointestinal function recovery time and hospital stay,and lower IBL volume were observed in the research ***,the posttreatment serum inflammatory marker(TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-8)levels were significantly lower in the research group than in the control *** with those in the control group,the posttreatment GSH-Px,SOD,MDA and AOPPs in the research group were equivalent to the pretreatment levels;for example,the GSH-Px and SOD levels were significantly higher,while the MDA and AOPP levels were
