Screening and prevention of hepatitis C virus reactivation during chemotherapy

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)reactivation occurs in 23%of HCV-infected cancer patients receiving ***-three percent of the patients with reactivation of HCV during chemotherapy develop a hepatitis *** of the cancer patients with HCV reactivation have an unremarkable clinical course following an HCV-related hepatitis flare during ***,26%–57%of the cancer patients developing an acute flare of chronic hepatitis C during chemotherapy require unanticipated discontinuation or dose reduction of chemotherapy,which results in deleterious changes in the cancer treatment *** an optimal strategy for HCV screening in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy has not been established,universal pre-chemotherapy HCV testing for patients with hematological malignancies is recommended by current *** the currently approved direct-acting antivirals(DAAs)can be used in cancer patients,but the use of DAAs during chemotherapy should avoid drug–drug interactions between chemotherapy and antiviral *** there are no contraindications or anticipated drug–drug interactions,DAAs treatment can be administered before,during,or after *** conclusion,HCV reactivation occurs in approximately one-fourth of HCV-infected cancer patients receiving *** HCV-related hepatitis flare during chemotherapy may lead to the discontinuation of potentially life-saving ***,universal HCV screening is recommended in hematological malignancy patients before chemotherapy,but there is no evidence-based guideline for other cancer *** treatment can cure HCV infection and prevent HCV reactivation during chemotherapy.

Expression of altered retinoblastoma protein inversely correlates with tumor invasion in gastric carcinoma

AIM: To investigate the clinical and pathological significance of altered retinoblastoma (Rb) encoding protein (pRb) in gastric carcinoma. METHODS: Expression of altered pRb was analyzed in 91 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Sixty-five percent (59/91) of the tumors were positively stained and the staining in tumor nuclei of gastric carcinoma ranged 0%-90%. Moreover, strong expression of altered pRb was found in 35% (6/17), 24% (5/21), 17% (8/46) and 0% (0/7) of T1, T2, T3 and T4 gastric carcinomas, respectively. altered pRb expression was inversely correlated with the depth of tumor invasion (P = 0.047). Degree of immunoreactivity had no significant correlation with tumor grade, node metastasis and distant metastasis. In terms of prognostic significance, univariate analysis showed that poor differentiation [41 (66.1%) vs 34 (42.5%) P = 0.051], advanced tumor stage (P < 0.001) and weakly altered pRb expression [17 (80.5%) vs 58 (49.6%) P = 0.044] were associated with worse prognosis in these patients. However, multivariate analysis revealed that advanced tumor stage was the only independent poor prognostic factor (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The mutation of Rb gene is frequent in gastric carcinoma. The expression of altered pRb inversely correlates with tumor invasion and is not an independent prognostic marker in gastric adenocarcinoma.

The Mechanism of Cumene Peroxidation Catalyzed by Cobalt(Ⅱ)-Chelated Copolymer

The functionalised polymers, especially for chelating polymer, have been employed to considerable effects in organic synthesis for several decades. The use of polymer groups as ligands permits the ligand surroundings to be varied and regulation of the catalytic properties of the complexes because of the flexibility of the polymer chains, their ability to adopt various conformations, and the possibility of creating various spatial distributions of metal centers immobilized on the polymer chains[1,2]. In our recently studies[3-5], the chelating copolymer with imino-diacetic acid chelating group in the polymer side chain was manufactured, and which can increase effectively amount of the chelating group within the polymer. Meanwhile, the high catalysis performance in organic synthesis had also been proved via benzaldehyde and cumene peroxidation. For cumene peroxidation,it is hardly to find such a simple catalyst with high conversion and selectivity due to hydroperoxide decomposition by a radical mechanism. The cumene peroxidation by catalyst system and its reaction mechanism as well as the kinetic study are popularly investigated object for many researchers[6-9]. However, the reaction mechanism still does not clear owing to the by-products will be produced following the different catalysts used.

Imbalanced free radicals and antioxidant defense systems in schizophrenia:A comparative study

Objective: To examine changes of blood oxidative-antiovidative level in schizophrenic patients and its relationship with clinical symptoms. Methods: Forty-six Chinese patients met DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disor- ders-IV) criteria for schizophrenia and fifty age- and sex-matched healthy controls were enrolled in the present study. Baseline psychiatric symptom severity was assessed with brief psychiatric rating scale, positive and negative syndrome scale on the blood draw day. Fresh blood samples were collected to measure levels of nitric oxide and lipid peroxide in plasma as well as activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase in red blood cells by spectrophotometric assays simultaneously. Results: Comparison of the biochemical parameters indicated that the level of nitric oxide and lipid peroxide increased in patient group, which represented a positive correlation with positive scale scores; while the activities of three critical enzymes decreased and showed a negative linear correlation. Conclusion: This study showed that there are dysregulation of free radical metabolism and poor activities of the antioxidant defense systems in schizophrenic patients. Excess free radicals formation may play a critical role in the etiology of schizophrenia. Using antioxidants might be an effective therapeutic approach to partially alleviate or prevent the symptoms of schizophrenia.

Migration-Prevention Strategy to Fabricate Single-Atom Fe Implanted N-Doped Porous Carbons for Efficient Oxygen Reduction

It is highly desired but challenging to achieve highly active single-atom Fe sites from iron-based metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)for efcient oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)due to the easy aggregation of iron species and formation of the inactive Fe-based particles during ***,a facile migration-prevention strategy is developed involving the incorporation of polyaniline(PANI)into the pores of iron porphyrinic-based MOF PCN-224(Fe)and followed by pyrolysis to obtain the single-atom Fe implanted N-doped porous carbons material PANI@PCN-224(Fe)-*** introduced PANI inside the pores of PCN-224(Fe)not only served as protective fences to prevent the aggregation of the iron species during thermal annealing,but also acted as nitrogen sources to increase the nitrogen content and form Fe-Nx-C active *** with the pristine PCN-224(Fe)derived carbonization sample containing Fe-based particles,the carbonaceous material PANI@PCN-224(Fe)-900 without inactive Fe-based particles exhibited superb ORR electrocatalytic activity with a more positive half-wave potential,signifcantly improved stability in both alkaline media,and more challenging acidic *** migration-prevention strategy provides a new way to fabricate atomically dispersed metal active sites via pyrolysis approach for promoting catalysis.

Remote sensing of air pollution incorporating integrated-path differential-absorption and coherent-Doppler lidar

An innovative complex lidar system deployed on an airborne rotorcraft platform for remote sensing of atmospheric pollution is proposed and *** system incorporates integrated-path differential absorption lidar(DIAL) and coherent-doppler lidar(CDL) techniques using a dual tunable TEA CO_(2)laser in the 9—11 μm band and a 1.55 μm fiber *** combining the principles of differential absorption detection and pulsed coherent detection,the system enables agile and remote sensing of atmospheric *** static tests validate the system’s real-time detection capabilities,including the measurement of concentration-path-length product(CL),front distance,and path wind speed of air pollution plumes over long distances exceeding 4 *** experiments is conducted with the *** of the pollutant concentration and the wind field is carried out in an approximately 1 km slant range over scanning angle ranges from 45°to 65°,with a radial resolution of 30 m and10 *** test results demonstrate the system’s ability to spatially map atmospheric pollution plumes and predict their motion and dispersion patterns,thereby ensuring the protection of public safety.

Chemical synthesis, spectroscopic properties and biochemical evaluation of an adenine nucleotide derivative 2-aminoadenosine 5＇-triphosphate

An adenine nucleotide derivative 2-aminoadenosine 5＇-triphosphate was chemically synthesized through four steps and was characterized with 1H NMR, 31p NMR, 13C NMR, EA and FT-IR. Its ultraviolet and fluorescence properties at various pH values were studied. Two pKa values for the compound were determined by the curves of UV absorption dependency on pH, Which were 0.68 and 4.83, respectively. The values were consistent with those calculated from ACD/Labs software. In addition, hydrolysis of the adenine nucleotide derivative in the catalysis of potato apyrase was studied. The competition of the ATP analogue with ATP for potato apyrase＇ active site was proved to be a sequential reaction mechanism.
