Focusing on the global diffusion of the "A" list consisting of predominantly usbased joum a Is, we argue that such diffusi on represents an important form of professionalization in the management of business schools. The diffusion can also be viewed as an intellectual movement in the age of global competition characterized by a flat world. How can we explain the recent diffusion of the wAw list? More important, how does such diffusion impact the future of business and management scholarship? Addressing these important but underexplored questions, I identify the multilevel factors that explain the diffusion, and predict its likely trajectory and its impact on future scholarship.

Modeling of suspended sediment particle movement in surface water can be achieved by stochastic particle tracking model *** this paper,different mathematical forms of particle tracking models are introduced to describe particle movement under various flow conditions,i.e.,the stochastic diffusion process,stochastic jump process,and stochastic jump diffusion *** the stochastic diffusion process can be used to represent the stochastic movement of suspended particles in turbulent flows,the stochastic jump and the stochastic jump diffusion processes can be used to describe suspended particle movement in the occurrences of a sequence of extreme *** extreme flow herein is defined as a hydrologic flow event or a hydrodynamic flow phenomenon with a low probability of occurrence and a high impact on its ambient flow *** this paper,the suspended sediment particle is assumed to immediately follow the extreme flows in the jump process(*** time lag between the flow particle and the sediment particle in extreme flows is considered negligible).In the proposed particle tracking models,a random term mainly caused by fluid eddy motions is modeled as a wiener process,while the random occurrences of a sequence of extreme flows can be modeled as a Poisson *** frequency of occurrence of the extreme flows in the proposed particle tracking model can be explicitly accounted for by the Poisson process when evaluating particle *** ensemble mean and variance of particle trajectory can be obtained from the proposed stochastic models via *** ensemble mean and variance of particle velocity are verified with available *** of the proposed stochastic particle tracking models for sediment transport modeling is also discussed.

Direct Simulation Monte Carlo(DSMC)methods for the Boltzmann equation employ a point measure approximation to the distribution function,as simulated particles may possess only a single *** representation limits the method to converge only weakly to the solution of the Boltzmann *** kernel density estimation we have developed a stochastic Boltzmann solver which possesses strong convergence for bounded and L∞solutions of the Boltzmann *** is facilitated by distributing the velocity of each simulated particle instead of using the point measure approximation inherent to *** propose that the development of a distributional method which incorporates distributed velocities in collision selection and modeling should improve convergence and potentially result in a substantial reduction of the variance in comparison to DSMC *** this end,we also report initial findings of modeling collisions distributionally using the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook collision operator.

Marine invertebrates that move too slowly to evade unfavorable environmental change may instead exhibit phenotypic plasticity,allowing them to adjust to varying *** orange-footed sea cucumber Cucumaria frondosa is a slow-moving suspension feeder that is preyed on by the purple sunstar Solaster *** sea cucumber's antipredator behavior involves changing shape and detaching from the substratum,which might increase its probability of being displaced by water motion into an unsuitable *** hypothesized that sea cucumbers'antipredator responses would be diminished under stronger hydrodynamic forces,and that behavioral strategies would be flexible so that individuals could adjust to frequent changes in water *** a natural orange-footed sea cucumber habitat,individuals lived along a pronounced hydrodynamic gradient,allowing us to measure antipredator behavior under different water flow *** placed purple sunstars in physical contact with sea cucumbers living at various points along the gradient to elicit antipredator *** then repeated this procedure in a laboratory mesocosm that generated weak and strong hydrodynamic forces similar to those observed at the field *** in the mesocosm experiment were tested in both wave conditions to determine if their antipredator behavior would change in response to sudden environmental change,as would be experienced under deteriorating sea *** responses did not covary with hydrodynamic forces in the ***,antipredator responses in the mesocosm experiment increased when individuals were transplanted from strong to weak forces and decreased when transplanted from weak to strong ***,our results indicate environmentally induced plasticity in the antipredator behavior of the orange-footed sea cucumber.

The Alpe Arami garnet peridotite of the Southern Swiss Alps is associated with eclogites and included within quartzofeldspathic gneisses. Controversy has swirled around the depth of origin of this massif since the 1970s when application of the newly-developed technique of thermobarometry suggested a depth of last equilibration of greater than 120 kin. Such controversy accelerated in 1996 when we reported microstructural evidence of extensive precipitation of ilmenite and spinel from olivine and proposed a much greater depth of origin. Subsequent experiments showed that it was possible to dissolve the observed amount of TiO2 in olivine, but only at depths in excess of 300 kin, agreeing with the earlier proposal. In 1999 we added new, independent, evidence concerning exsolution of high-pressure clinoenstatite from diopside that in-and-of-itself required a depth of origin in excess of 250 km. Subsequently, we also added evidence from the surrounding eclogites of very high pressures and experimental evidence that the pyroxenes included in the amoeboid garnets of this rock had exsolved from a majoritic parent at perhaps even greater pressures. In refutation of the first two of these observations, suggestions were made that （i） we had made a serious error in our estimate of how much ilmenite was present in olivine （and therefore how much TiO2 had been dissolved in olivine）; （ii） the ilmenite had not been exsolved from olivine but former titanian clinohumite had been present and broke down to yield the ilmenite; （iii） the pyroxene exsolved from diopside had been high-temperature clinoenstatite. In all three of these cases, the alternatives offered were claimed to be accommodated at low pressures. Here we review the essence of this controversy and show that the only scenario that can explain all of the data is the one that we originally proposed; indeed, the more recent data have strongly supported that interpretation and pushed the minimum origin of the massif to depths ap

RAB guanosine triphosphatases （GTPases） are key regulators of vesicle trafficking and are essential to the growth and development of all eukaryotic cells. During evolution, the RAB family has expanded in different patterns to facilitate distinct cellular, developmental and physiological adaptations. Yeast has only 11 family members, whereas mammalian RABs have expanded to 18 RAB subfamilies. Plant RABs have diversified primarily by duplicating members within a single subfamily. Plant RABs are divided into eight subfamilies, corresponding to mammalian RAB1, RAB2, RAB5, RAB6, RAB7, RAB8, RAB11 and RAB18. Functional diversification of these is exemplified by the RAB1 ls, orthologs of which are partitioned into unique cell compartments in plants where they function to transport vesicles during localized tip growth. Similarly, the RAB2 family in grasses is likely involved in vesicle secretion associated with wall expansion, as determined by analysis of over-expression mutants. we propose that dicots and monocots have also diverged in their RAB profiles to accommodate unique cellular functions between the two groups. Here we present a bioinformatics analysis comparing the RAB sub-families of rice, maize and Arabidopsis. These results will guide future functional studies to test for the role of diversification of subfamilies unique to monocots compared to dicots.

Evolving perspectives on biofuels in the United States

Biofuels represent an important source of renewable energy and may play a crucial role in developing sustainable energy strategies for many countries and the world as a whole. The pros and cons of biofuels, however, have been debated both scientifically and politically. They remain a topic of controversy. In this paper, the evolvement of the perspectives and policies on biofuels in the United States in the past several decades was reviewed. Four different periods, that is, the period prior to 1978 （marked by the passage of the Energy Act in 1978）; 1978-1989 （ending with the passage of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990）; 1990-2004 （ending with the passage of the energy act of 2005）; and 2005 to the present, which were characterized by defining events of major policy importance were identified. Each time period was assessed using the Ostrom institutional analysis and development （IAD） framework to show the impact of the evolving interests and influences of global players on policy choices related to biofuels in the United States. The us has a long history of supporting corn-based ethanol and more recently advanced biofuels. Changes in perspectives on biofuels from largely unrelated groups led to changes in policy and market dynamics. Until the late 1990s, most perspectives and policies tended to be aligned and significantly supportive of corn-based ethanol in the United States. In the early 2000s, it became clear that the complications associated with first generation biofuels and corn-based ethanol in particular, were too numerous and too severe to overlook. The need for better options has spurred interest in new technologies and more environmentally benign feedstocks, but, there is little prospect forbiofuels playing a significant role in the near term without greater alignment among key players.

Psyllids,or jumping plant lice(Hemiptera:Sternorrhyncha:Psylloidea),are a group of small phytophagous insects that include some important pests of crops *** communication of psyllids occurs via vibrations transmitted through host plants,which play an important role in mate recognition and *** signals are species-specific and can be used to aid in psyllid taxonomy and pest ***-eral hypotheses have been proposed for the mechanism that generates these vibrations,of which stridulation,that is,friction between parts of the forewing and thorax,has re-ceived the most *** have investigated vibrational communication in the Euro-pean pear psyllid species Cacopsylla pyrisuga(Foerster,1848)using laser vibrometry and high-speed video recording,to directly observe the movements associated with signal *** describe for the first time the basic characteristics of the signals and signal emission of this *** on observations and analysis of the video recordings us-ing a point-tracking algorithm,and their comparison with laser vibrometer recordings,we argue that males of *** produce the vibrations primarily by wing buzzing,that is,tremulation that does not involve friction between the wings and *** observed signal properties with previously published data,we predict that wing buzzing is the main mechanism of signal production in all vibrating psyllids.
