Converting CO_(2)to ethanol on Ag nanowires with high selectivity investigated by operando Raman spectroscopy

Electrochemical conversion of CO_(2)into liquid fuels provides an efficient way to store the renewable energy in the production of fuels and chemicals.However,effectively converting CO_(2)to ethanol remains extremely challenging due to the low activity and selectivity.Herein,we achieve a high ethanol Faradaic efficiency(FE)as high as 85%on Ag nanowires(NWs)for CO_(2)electroreduction at-0.95 V.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical experiments prove that such Ag NWs are partially oxidized.Operando Raman spectroscopy finds the important CO intermediate adsorbed on partially oxidized Ag NWs,facilitating the ethanol formation.Density functional theory calculations prove that the reaction energy of CO coupling with the*CHO to*COCHO intermediate on the partially oxidized Ag NWs is smaller than that on the surface of Cu,which explains why the ethanol FE of such partially oxidized Ag NWs can exceed that of Cu,and therefore is the most favorable pathway for the formation of C_(2)products on partially oxidized Ag NWs.This study provides a new insight to design efficient catalysts and investigate the mechanisms to improve the selectivity.

目的:从贫营养环境(如饮用水供水管道)中获取足量的DNA是用分子生物学的方法研究微生物群落的重要环节。尽管如此,DNA量不足始终是对饮用水环境样品进行宏基因组测序时最大的问题之一。为了获得尽可能多的微生物,本文采用超声处理进行微生物分离,并研究处理供水管道生物膜的最佳超声处理参数。创新点:本研究提供了一种预处理方法,可以从实际供水管道生物膜中提取更多可靠的DNA,可以更好地解决贫营养环境中DNA的收集问题。方法:1.用挑选的细菌(Pelomonas sp.)形成的生物膜来初步研究三个超声参数的最佳水平,即功率、时间和超声处理次数;2.基于这些值,对每个超声参数选择三个水平,并对实验室培养的饮用水生物膜进行正交试验,以进一步确定能有效分离生物膜的最佳超声参数水平;3.使用研究所得的最优超声处理参数对从实际供水管道采集的生物膜进行处理,以验证其效果。结论:1.最佳超声功率、时间和次数分别为13 W、1 min和15次,且两次超声处理之间需要20min的静置期;2.与没有进行超声处理的样品相比,研究所得的最优超声处理不会降低DNA质量,而且可以将提取的DNA量增加至少4.78倍。

BACKGROUND For children and adolescents,deliberate self-harm(DSH)is becoming a mental health problem of concern.Despite several studies on the prevalence and factors of DSH in the world,there is little information on DSH among children and adolescents in China.This study explores the prevalence,types,associated risk factors and tendency of DSH in pediatric psychiatric inpatients in China.AIM To understand the situation of DSH among hospitalized children and adolescents and its related factors.METHODS In this study,we retrospectively studied 1414 hospitalized children and adolescents with mental illness at Xiamen Mental Health Center from 2014 to 2019,extracted the demographic and clinical data of all patients,and analyzed clinical risk factors of DSH.RESULTS A total of 239(16.90%)patients engaged in at least one type of DSH in our study.Cutting(n=115,48.12%)was the most common type of DSH.Females(n=171,71.55%)were more likely to engage in DSH than males(n=68,28.45%).DSH was positively associated with depressive disorders[OR=3.845(2.196-6.732);P<0.01],female[OR=2.536(1.815-3.542);P<0.01],parental marital status[OR=5.387(2.254-12.875);P<0.01]and negative family history of psychiatric illness[OR=7.767(2.952-20.433);P<0.01],but not with occupation,substance use and history of physical abuse.CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that for patients with depression,females,an abnormal marriage of parents,and no history of mental illness,attention should be paid to the occurrence of DSH.

Effect of relative humidity on the desulfurization performance of calcium-based desulfurizer

Low desulfurization efficiency impedes the wide application of dry desulfurization technology,which is a low-cost and simple process,and one significant solution is the development and manufacture of high-performance desulfurizers.In this study,firstly,a steam jet mill was used to digest quicklime;then,we utilized numerical simulation to study the flow field distribution and analyze the driving factors of quicklime digestion;and lastly,the desulfurization performance of the desulfurizer was evaluated under different relative humidities.The results show that the desulfurizer prepared via the steam jet mill had better apparent activity than traditional desulfurizers.Also,the entire jet flow field of the steam jet mill is in a supersonic and highly turbulent flow state,with high crushing intensity and good particle acceleration performance.Sufficient contact with the nascent surface maximizes the formation of slaked lime.The experiments demonstrated that the operating time with 100%desulfurization efficiency and the“break-through”time for the desulfurizer prepared via the steam jet mill is longer than that of traditional desulfurizers,and has significant advantages,especially at low flue gas relative humidity.Compared with traditional desulfurizers,the desulfurizer prepared via steam jet mill expands the range of acceptable flue gas temperature,and the failure temperature is 1.625 times that of traditional desulfurizers.This work breaks through the technical bottleneck of low dry desulfurization efficiency,which is an important step in pushing forward the application of dry desulfurization.

Impacts of angiotensin II on retinal artery changes in apolipoprotein E deficient mice

AIM:To investigate the impacts of angiotensin II(Ang II)on retinal artery changes in apolipoprotein E deficient(apoE^(-/-))mice.METHODS:ApoE^(-/-)male mice were infused by minipumps with Ang II at 1000 ng/kg·min(Ang II group)or saline(control group)for 28d.They were underwent ophthalmic fundus examination on day 0,14,and 28 of infusion.Histopathologic examination,ribonucleic acid(RNA)sequencing and local Ang II measurement of retinas were conducted.RESULTS:Ophthalmic fundus examination showed Ang II infusion promoted the formation of retinal arterial aneurysm-like lesions on day 28.Optical coherence tomography revealed the ganglion cell and inner plexiform layer(GCIPL)thickness in the control group was significantly thinner than that in Ang II group(P<0.001).Hematoxylin-eosin staining demonstrated diffused swelling of GCIPL layer and its disordered structure in Ang II group.Transmission electron microscopy showed Ang II infusion caused aggravation of atherosclerotic lesions,including increased swelling,roughness,disorganization of the retinal vasculature,and vacuoles formation.RNA-sequencing and gene ontology enrichment analysis demonstrated that the structure and function of cellular membrane might be disturbed and visual function might be compromised by Ang II.The local level of Ang II was higher in Ang II infusion group but did not show significant differences compared to the control group(P=0.086).CONCLUSION:Ang II infusion promotes the formation of retinal arterial aneurysm-like lesions in apoE^(-/-)mice,causing aggravation of atherosclerotic lesions,more severe disorganization of the retinal vasculature and disturbance of the cellular membrane.

Large isolated fibrous tumors in the upper esophagus: A case report

BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumors(SFT)are rare spindle cell tumors that are usually benign.A total of 10 cases of SFTs in the upper esophagus have ever been reported.Here,we report the anesthetic management of a patient with a large isolated fibrous tumor of the upper esophagus compressing the tracheal membrane.We also provide a literature review of the current research.CASE SUMMARY We report the case of a 49 year old male with“cough aggravation and wheezing after exercise”,who underwent esophagectomy for a large isolated fibrous tumor compressing the tracheal membrane in the upper esophagus.We advise the use of a single-lumen tube with a blocker in patients with difficult airways to reduce the incidence of airway injury and fibrinoscopy at all stages of the perioperative period to guide airway management.This case study is the first report of the anesthetic management of a large,isolated fibrous tumor compressing the tracheal membrane in the upper esophagus.CONCLUSION This rare case emphasizes the importance of perioperative management of anesthesia in patients with large isolated fibrous tumors of the upper esophagus that compress the tracheal membrane.The use of blocker reduce the incidence of airway injury and fibrinoscopy at the perioperative period to guide airway mana-gement.

The role of co-agonists of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor(GLP-1R)and glucagon receptor(GCGR)in chronic kidney disease(CKD)remains unclear.Herein we found that GLP-1R and GCGR expression levels were lower in the kidneys of mice with CKD compared to healthy mice and were correlated with disease severity.Interestingly,GLP-1R or GCGR knockdown aggravated the progression of kidney injury in both diabetic db/db mice and non-diabetic mice undergoing unilateral ureteral obstruction(UUO).Based on the importance of GLP-1R and GCGR in CKD,we reported a novel monomeric peptide,1907-B,with dual-agonism on both GLP-1R and GCGR.The data confirmed that 1907-B had a longer half-life than long-acting semaglutide in rats or cynomolgus monkeys(~2-3 fold)and exhibited better therapeutic contribution to CKD than best-in-class monoagonists,semaglutide,or glucagon,in db/db mice and UUO mice.Various lock-of-function models,including selective pharmacological activation and genetic knockdown,confirmed that 1907-B’s effects on ameliorating diabetic nephropathy in db/db mice,as well as inhibiting kidney fibrosis in UUO mice,were mediated through GLP-1 and glucagon signaling.These findings highlight that 1907-B,a novel GLP-1R and GCGR co-agonist,exerts multifactorial improvement in kidney injuries and is an effective and promising therapeutic option for CKD treatment.

Atherosclerosis is the main pathological feature of ischemic stroke, which remains a major cause of disability and death worldwide. Vulnerable plaque, was characterized by ulceration, platelet activation, and thrombosis, potentially leading to emboli detachment and stroke. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), a major cellular component within lesions, can display pleiotropic phenotypes, including osteogenic or inflammatory phenotypes, which may be harmful in maintaining advanced atherosclerotic plaque stability. The modulation of the function of VSMCs, including proliferation, migration, and synthesizing the extracellular matrix (ECM) and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP), is thought to markedly affect plaque formation and vulnerability. Therefore, it is of considerable significance to drive harmful VSMCs toward VSMCs having beneficial properties to strengthen plaque stability and retard plaque development.

Jianpi Decoction Combined with Medroxyprogesterone Acetate Alleviates Cancer Cachexia and Prevents Muscle Atrophy by Directly Inhibiting E3 Ubiquitin Ligase

ObjectiveTo provide comprehensive evidence for the anti-cancer cachexia effect of Jianpi Decoction(JP)and to explore its mechanism of anti-cancer cachexia.MethodsA mouse model of colon cancer(CT26)-induced cancer cachexia(CC)was used to investigate the anti-CC effect of JP combined with medroxyprogesterone acetate(MPA).Thirty-six mice were equally divided into 6 groups:normal control,CC,MPA(100 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1)),MPA+low-dose(20 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1))JP(L-JP),MPA+medium-dose(30 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1))JP(M-JP),and MPA+high-dose(40 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1))JP(H-JP)groups.After successful modeling,the mice were administered by gavage for 11 d.The body weight and tumor volume were measured and recorded every 2 d starting on the 8th day after implantation.The liver,heart,spleen,lung,kidney,tumor and gastrocnemius muscle of mice were collected and weighed.The pathological changes of the tumor was observed,and the cross-sectional area of the gastrocnemius muscle was calculated.The protein expressions of STAT3 and E3 ubiquitinase in the gastrocnemius muscle were measured by Western blot.In addition,an in vitro C2C12 myotube formation model was established to investigate the role of JP in hindering dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy.In vitro experiments were divided into control,model,and JP serum groups.After 2-d administration,microscopic photographs were taken and myotube diameters were calculated.Western blot was performed to measure the protein expressions of STAT3 and E3 ubiquitinase.ResultsJP combined with MPA restored tumor-induced weight loss(P<0.05,vs.CC)and muscle fiber size(P<0.01,vs.CC).Mechanistically,JP reduced the expression of atrophy-related proteins MuRF1 and MAFbx in tumor-induced muscle atrophy in vivo(P<0.05,vs.CC).In addition,JP reduced the expression of atrophy-related proteins MuRF1 and MAFbx and p-STAT3 phosphorylation(P<0.05 or P<0.01 vs.model group)in C2C12 myotubes treated with dexamethasone in vitro.ConclusionsAdministration of JP combined with MPA restores tumor-induced cachexia conditions.In addition,the

Impacts of information about COVID-19 on pig farmers'production willingness and behavior:Evidence from China

This paper examines the impacts of information about COVID-19 on pig farmers'production willingness by using endorsement experiments and follow-up surveys conducted in 2020 and 2021 in China.Our results show that,first,farmers were less willing to scale up production when they received information about COVID-19.The information in 2020 that the second wave of COVID-19 might occur without a vaccine reduced farmers'willingness to scale up by 13.4%,while the information in 2021 that COVID-19 might continue to spread despite the introduction of vaccine reduced farmers'willingness by 4.4%.Second,farmers whose production was affected by COVID-19 were considerably less willing to scale up,given the access to COVID-19 information.Third,farmers'production willingness can predict their actual production behavior.
