BACKGROUND Computed tomography(CT)has become a routine preoperative examination for tibial plateau fractures(TPFs).Assessing the location of the fragment and intercondylar eminence fracture can provide clinicians with valuable information;however,the evaluation of traumatic meniscal lesion(TML)and arthroscopic management are controversial.AIM To predict TML by three-dimensional skeletal anatomy changes in unilateral TPF and bilateral TPF on preoperative thin layer CT.METHODS Acute fracture of tibial plateau patients undergoing arthroscopic surgery between December 2017 and December 2019 were included in this retrospective study.The type,zone,and location of TMLs were diagnosed based on the operation records and/or arthroscopic videos.Measurement of three-dimensional fracture morphology included the following:Frontal fragment width of plateau,sagittal fragment subsiding distance(FSD),sagittal fracture line distance,sagittal posterior tibial slope,and transversal area ratio of fragment area)on preoperative CT three-dimensional plane.The correlation of TML with skeletal values was calculated according to unicondylar TPFs and bicondylar TPFs.RESULTS A total of 67 patients were enrolled in this study,among which 30 patients had TMLs,lateral/medial(23/7).FSD was a particularly positive factor to predict TML,with odds ratio of 2.31(1.26-5.63).On sagittal view of CT,FSD degree of 8 mm and posterior tibial slope exceeding 11.74°implied enhanced risk of TML in bicondylar TPFs.On coronal view,once fragment width of plateau surpassed 3 cm,incidence of TML reached 100%.On transverse view,area ratio of fragment as enhanced risk of 5.5%and FSD>4.3 mm for predicting TML were observed in unicondylar TPFs.CONCLUSION TML can be predicted by different parameters on preoperative CT views according to unicondylar fractures and bicondylar TPFs.

Effect of Spark Plasma Sintering on Microstructures and Properties of Al-Fe Alloy

2024 Aluminum alloy powder( 60wt%) and Fe-based amorphous powder( 40 wt%) were adopted. They were mechanical machined for 48hours after being mixed. Bulk material was gained after Spark Plasma Sintering. The sintering parameters included sintering temperature,heating or cooling rates,pressure and holding time. 300 ℃- 800 ℃ were adopted while the heating or cooling rate was 100 ℃ / min and with the pressure of 50 MPa in the experiments. The holding time was 10 min or 20 min at different temperatures, respectively. Bulk materials after sintering were examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Diffraction. The micro-hardness and relative density also were tested. The sintering temperature had the most significant influence on the microstructure and property of the bulk material. The influence of holding time came second while the heating or cooling rates and pressure were fixed. The density became larger with the increase of the temperature. The compactness was best at 500℃. The pressure and generation of high-temperature phases were the factors which affected the density and the compactness.

Inspired by the transmission characteristics of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),an epidemic model with quarantine and standard incidence rate is first developed,then a novel analysis approach is proposed for finding the ultimate lower bound of the number of infected individuals,which means that the epidemic is uniformly persistent if the control reproduction number R_(c)>1.This approach can be applied to the related biomat hem at ical models,and some existing works can be improved by using that.In addition,the infection-free equilibrium V^(0)of the model is locally asymptotically stable(LAS)if R_(c)linearly stable if R_(c)=1;while V^(0)is unstable if R_(c)>1.

Non-Convex Optimization of Resource Allocation in Fog Computing Using Successive Approximation

Fog computing can deliver low delay and advanced IT services to end users with substantially reduced energy consumption.Nevertheless,with soaring demands for resource service and the limited capability of fog nodes,how to allocate and manage fog computing resources properly and stably has become the bottleneck.Therefore,the paper investigates the utility optimization-based resource allocation problem between fog nodes and end users in fog computing.The authors first introduce four types of utility functions due to the diverse tasks executed by end users and build the resource allocation model aiming at utility maximization.Then,for only the elastic tasks,the convex optimization method is applied to obtain the optimal results;for the elastic and inelastic tasks,with the assistance of Jensen’s inequality,the primal non-convex model is approximated to a sequence of equivalent convex optimization problems using successive approximation method.Moreover,a two-layer algorithm is proposed that globally converges to an optimal solution of the original problem.Finally,numerical simulation results demonstrate its superior performance and effectiveness.Comparing with other works,the authors emphasize the analysis for non-convex optimization problems and the diversity of tasks in fog computing resource allocation.

LncRNA NKILA inhibits HBV replication by repressing NF-κB signalling activation

Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection results in liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).HBx/nuclear factor(NF)-κB pathway plays a role in HBV replication.However,whether NF-κB-interacting long noncoding RNA(NKILA),a suppressor of NF-κB activation,regulates HBV replication remains largely unknown.In this study,gain-and-loss experiments showed that NKILA inhibited HBV replication by inhibiting NF-κB activity.In turn,HBV infection down-regulated NKILA expression.In addition,expression levels of NKILA were lower in the peripheral blood-derived monocytes(PBMCs)of HBV-positive patients than in healthy individuals,which were correlated with HBV viral loads.And a negative correlation between NKILA expression level and HBV viral loads was observed in blood serum from HBV-positive patients.Lower levels of endogenous NKILA were also observed in HepG2 cells expressing a 1.3-fold HBV genome,HBV-infected HepG2-NTCP cells,stable HBV-producing HepG2.2.15 and HepAD38 cells,compared to those HBV-negative cells.Furthermore,HBx was required for NKILA-mediated inhibition on HBV replication.NKILA decreased HBx-induced NF-κB activation by interrupting the interaction between HBx and p65,whereas NKILA mutants lack of essential domains for NF-κB inhibition,lost the ability to inhibit HBV replication.Together,our data demonstrate that NKILA may serve as a suppressor of HBV replication via NF-κB signalling.

Phase change materials (PCMs) can be incorporated with low-cost minerals to synthesize composites for thermal energy storage in building applications.Stone coal (SC) after vanadium extraction treatment shows potential for secondary utilization in composite preparation.We prepared SC-based composite PCMs with SC as a matrix,stearic acid (SA) as a PCM,and expanded graphite (EG) as an additive.The combined roasting and acid leaching treatment of raw SC was conducted to understand the effect of vanadium extraction on promoting loading capacity.Results showed that the combined treatment of roasting at 900℃ and leaching increased the SC loading of the composite by 6.2%by improving the specific surface area.The loading capacity and thermal conductivity of the composite obviously increased by 127%and 48.19%,respectively,due to the contribution of 3wt% EG.These data were supported by the high load of 66.69%and thermal conductivity of 0.59 W·m^(-1)·K-1of the designed composite.The obtained composite exhibited a phase change temperature of 52.17℃,melting latent heat of 121.5 J·g^(-1),and good chemical compatibility.The SC-based composite has prospects in building applications exploiting the secondary utilization of minerals.

MgH_(2) is a promising high-capacity solid-state hydrogen storage material,while its application is greatly hindered by the high desorption temperature and sluggish kinetics.Herein,intertwined 2D oxygen vacancy-rich V_(2)O_(5) nanosheets(H-V_(2)O_(5))are specifically designed and used as catalysts to improve the hydrogen storage properties of MgH_(2).The as-prepared MgH_(2)-H-V_(2)O_(5) composites exhibit low desorption temperatures(Tonset=185℃)with a hydrogen capacity of 6.54 wt%,fast kinetics(Ea=84.55±1.37 kJ mol^(-1) H_(2) for desorption),and long cycling stability.Impressively,hydrogen absorption can be achieved at a temperature as low as 30℃ with a capacity of 2.38 wt%within 60 min.Moreover,the composites maintain a capacity retention rate of~99%after 100 cycles at 275℃.Experimental studies and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the in-situ formed VH_(2)/V catalysts,unique 2D structure of H-V_(2)O_(5) nanosheets,and abundant oxygen vacancies positively contribute to the improved hydrogen sorption properties.Notably,the existence of oxygen vacancies plays a double role,which could not only directly accelerate the hydrogen ab/de-sorption rate of MgH_(2),but also indirectly affect the activity of the catalytic phase VH_(2)/V,thereby further boosting the hydrogen storage performance of MgH_(2).This work highlights an oxygen vacancy excited“hydrogen pump”effect of VH_(2)/V on the hydrogen sorption of Mg/MgH_(2).The strategy developed here may pave a new way toward the development of oxygen vacancy-rich transition metal oxides catalyzed hydride systems.

OBJECTIVE:To explore the relationship between autophagy and apoptosis regulated by puerarin during osteoblastogenesis.METHODS:In this study,the effects of puerarin on the autophagic activity and apoptosis level of osteoblast precursors(MC3T3-E1 cells)was observed.Subsequently,the roles of puerarin on B-cell lymphoma-2(Bcl-2)phosphorylation at different sites in osteoblast precursors were observed.The effect of puerarin on the interaction between Bcl-2 and autophagy regulatory molecule or pro-apoptotic molecule was also investigated using Co-immunoprecipitation assays.In addition,the effect of puerarin on mitochondrial membrane potential of osteoblast precursors was also identified by mitochondrial membrane potential fluorescence probe assays.RESULTS:Our results showed that puerarin can promote the autophagic activity and apoptosis level of MC3T3-E1cells.In addition,puerarin promoted Bcl-2phosphorylation at Ser70 site,and the dissociation of Bcl-2-Beclin1 complex.Moreover,puerarin could enhance the binding of Bcl-2-Bcl-2-Associated X(Bax)complex in MC3T3-E1 cells.Furthermore,puerarin increased the mitochondrial membrane potential of MC3T3-E1 cells.CONCLUSIONS:Therefore,puerarin promotes Beclin1into autophagy flux through Bcl-2 phosphorylation at Ser70,thereby enhancing autophagy of osteoblast precursors,which mediates its anti-apoptotic role during osteoblastogenesis.Furthermore,the dissociation of Bcl-2-Beclin1 complex is conducive to the binding of Bcl-2-Bax complex,which resists the apoptosis of osteoblast precursors via the increased mitochondrial membrane potential.

AIM:To evaluate scleral buckling(SB)surgery using a noncontact wide-field viewing system and 23-gauge intraocular illumination for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in silicone oil(SO)-filled eyes.METHODS:Totally 9 patients(9 eyes)with retinal detachment in SO-filled eyes were retrospectively analyzed.All patients underwent non-contact wide-field viewing system-assisted buckling surgery with 23-gauge intraocular illumination.SO was removed at an appropriate time based on recovery.The patients were followed up for at least 3mo after SO removal.Retinal reattachment,complications,visual acuity and intraocular pressure(IOP)before and after surgery were observed.RESULTS:Patients were followed up for a mean of 8.22mo(3-22mo)after SO removal.All patients had retinal reattachment.At the final follow-up,visual acuity showed improvement for 8 patients,and no change for 1 patient.The IOP was high in 3 patients before surgery,but it stabilized after treatment;it was not affected in the other patients.None of the patients had infections,hemorrhage,anterior ischemia,or any other complication.CONCLUSION:This new non-contact wide-field viewing system-assisted SB surgery with 23-gauge intraocular illumination is effective and safe for retinal detachment in SO-filled eyes.
