Potassium dehydroandrographolide succinate regulates the MyD88/CDH13 signaling pathway to enhance vascular injuryinduced pathological vascular remodeling

Pathological vascular remodeling is a hallmark of various vascular diseases.Previous research has established the significance of andrographolide in maintaining gastric vascular homeostasis and its pivotal role in modulating endothelial barrier dysfunction,which leads to pathological vascular remodeling.Potassium dehydroandrographolide succinate(PDA),a derivative of andrographolide,has been clinically utilized in the treatment of inflammatory diseases precipitated by viral infections.This study investigates the potential of PDA in regulating pathological vascular remodeling.The effect of PDA on vascular remodeling was assessed through the complete ligation of the carotid artery in C57BL/6 mice.Experimental approaches,including rat aortic primary smooth muscle cell culture,flow cytometry,bromodeoxyuridine(BrdU)incorporation assay,Boyden chamber cell migration assay,spheroid sprouting assay,and Matrigel-based tube formation assay,were employed to evaluate the influence of PDA on the proliferation and motility of smooth muscle cells(SMCs).Molecular docking simulations and co-immunoprecipitation assays were conducted to examine protein interactions.The results revealed that PDA exacerbates vascular injury-induced pathological remodeling,as evidenced by enhanced neointima formation.PDA treatment significantly increased the proliferation and migration of SMCs.Further mechanistic studies disclosed that PDA upregulated myeloid differentiation factor 88(MyD88)expression in SMCs and interacted with T-cadherin(CDH13).This interaction augmented proliferation,migration,and extracellular matrix deposition,culminating in pathological vascular remodeling.Our findings underscore the critical role of PDA in the regulation of pathological vascular remodeling,mediated through the MyD88/CDH13 signaling pathway.

Background:Patients with schizophrenia(SCZ)and major depressive disorder(MDD)share significant clinical overlap,although it remains unknown to what extent this overlap reflects shared neural profiles.To identify the shared and specific abnormalities in SCZ and MDD,we performed a whole-brain voxel-based meta-analysis using magnetization transfer imaging,a technique that characterizes the macromolecular structural integrity of brain tissue in terms of the magnetization transfer ratio(MTR).Methods:A systematic search based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines was conducted in PubMed,EMBASE,International Scientific Index(ISI)Web of Science,and MEDLINE for relevant studies up to March 2022.Two researchers independently screened the articles.Rigorous scrutiny and data extraction were performed for the studies that met the inclusion criteria.Voxel-wise meta-analyses were conducted using anisotropic effect size-signed differential mapping with a unified template.Meta-regression was used to explore the potential effects of demographic and clinical characteristics.Results:A total of 15 studies with 17 datasets describing 365 SCZ patients,224 MDD patients,and 550 healthy controls(HCs)were identified.The conjunction analysis showed that both disorders shared higher MTR than HC in the left cerebellum(P=0.0006)and left fusiform gyrus(P=0.0004).Additionally,SCZ patients showed disorder-specific lower MTR in the anterior cingulate/paracingulate gyrus,right superior temporal gyrus,and right superior frontal gyrus,and higher MTR in the left thalamus,precuneus/cuneus,posterior cingulate gyrus,and paracentral lobule;and MDD patients showed higher MTR in the left middle occipital region.Meta-regression showed no statistical significance in either group.Conclusions:The results revealed a structural neural basis shared between SCZ and MDD patients,emphasizing the importance of shared neural substrates across psychopathology.Meanwhile,distinct disease-specific characteristics could have implic

Non-contact wide-field viewing system-assisted scleral buckling surgery for retinal detachment in silicone oilfilled eyes

AIM:To evaluate scleral buckling(SB)surgery using a noncontact wide-field viewing system and 23-gauge intraocular illumination for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in silicone oil(SO)-filled eyes.METHODS:Totally 9 patients(9 eyes)with retinal detachment in SO-filled eyes were retrospectively analyzed.All patients underwent non-contact wide-field viewing system-assisted buckling surgery with 23-gauge intraocular illumination.SO was removed at an appropriate time based on recovery.The patients were followed up for at least 3mo after SO removal.Retinal reattachment,complications,visual acuity and intraocular pressure(IOP)before and after surgery were observed.RESULTS:Patients were followed up for a mean of 8.22mo(3-22mo)after SO removal.All patients had retinal reattachment.At the final follow-up,visual acuity showed improvement for 8 patients,and no change for 1 patient.The IOP was high in 3 patients before surgery,but it stabilized after treatment;it was not affected in the other patients.None of the patients had infections,hemorrhage,anterior ischemia,or any other complication.CONCLUSION:This new non-contact wide-field viewing system-assisted SB surgery with 23-gauge intraocular illumination is effective and safe for retinal detachment in SO-filled eyes.

Comparative studies on Fenton-like reactions catalyzed by Fe_(3)O_(4) loaded inside and outside halloysite nanotubes for the removal of organic pollutants

In this work,Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles(NPs)loaded inside and outside halloysite nanotubes(HNTs)were prepared and developed as the heterogeneous Fenton-like catalysts for the removal of representative organic pollutants.Characterization results indicated that the samples with Fe_(3)O_(4) NPs loaded outside the HNTs lumen(Fe_(3)O_(4)/HNTs)and inside the HNTs lumen(Fe_(3)O_(4)@HNTs)were successfully prepared.Both samples had typical magnetic hysteresis loops,while Fe_(3)O_(4)@HNTs exhibited higher magnetization intensity.The comparative experiments showed that Fe_(3)O_(4)@HNTs had better Fenton-like catalytic ability than that of Fe_(3)O_(4)/HNTs in the degradation of various organic pollutants.Taking Rhodamine B(RhB)as an example,the adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics of RhB onto Fe_(3)O_(4)/HNTs and Fe_(3)O_(4)@HNTs were also investigated.The comparative results demonstrated that the adsorption ability of Fe_(3)O_(4)/HNTs was better than that of Fe_(3)O_(4)@HNTs.Moreover,the dissolved concentration of Fe^(2+)and production amount of hydroxyl radical(·OH)in the Fe_(3)O_(4)@HNTs-H_(2)O_(2) system were significantly higher than those in the Fe_(3)O_(4)/HNTs-H_(2)O_(2) system.Based on aforementioned comparison,the nano-confinement effect in the Fe_(3)O_(4)@HNTs-H_(2)O_(2) system was verified.This work provides meaningful guidance for the cheap and convenient design of nanoreactors for Fenton-like applications.

Project management teams are critical in the implementation of megaprojects,but their evolution throughout the project lifecycle has not been clearly explained.This paper explores the organizational evolution of megaproject management teams through a longitudinal retrospective case study of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge(HZMB)project.The organizational evolution is examined in terms of management objectives,management content,and organizational structure.The organizational evolution of the HZMB project management team exhibits stage differentiation with the coexistence of turbulence and stability.Changes in the external environment are the driving force for organizational evolution,whereas a flexible organizational strategy is critical in promoting this evolution.Basing on the HZMB case study,this paper summarizes six critical measures that facilitate the organizational evolution of megaproject management teams.Our findings add value to megaproject management theory and provide a better understanding of the dynamics and complexity of megaproject organizational management.

Use of Evidence-Based Research Approach in RCTs of Acupuncture-Related Therapies for Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Meta-Research

Objective To assess the use of evidence-based research(EBR)approach in randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of acupuncture-related therapies for primary dysmenorrhea(PD).Methods PubMed,EMBASE,Cochrane Library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang Database,Chinese Biomedical Database,and China Science and Technology Journal Database were searched from January 2013 to December 2022 for RCTs of acupuncture on PD.The full text and references of each RCT were read to assess whether systematic reviews(SRs)or other types of studies with similar research questions and end-users’perspectives were cited to justify and design the trial.In addition,the discussion section were analyzed to evaluate whether trials placed the new result in the existing SRs to draw a conclusion.Multivariable logistic regression was used to find variables that associated with 3 aspects of EBR approach:(1)citing clinical studies for justification,(2)citing relevant studies that obtain the perspectives of end users,and(3)citing clinical studies for results discussion.Results Of 473 RCTs included,45.67%(216)of the trials cited relevant similar studies,21.56%(102)referenced to the studies that collected end-users’perspectives,and 10.99%(52)placed result in the context of the previous research.Few RCTs appropriately applied EBR approach.Among all the included studies,3.17%(15)of the trials used SRs to inform study questions but none of them used updated SRs with acceptable quality;1.05%(5)of the trials cited SRs of end-user’s perspectives in the justification and design of the study,and only 1 trial added results in existing SR to draw a conclusion.Year of publication,language,funding,registration,ethical approval and number of sites were significantly associated with 1 of the 3 aspects of EBR approach.Conclusions Few RCTs in acupuncture-related therapies for PD used the EBR approach to minimize research redundancy.Researchers,research institutes,funding agencies,ethics committees,journals and peer reviewers in acupuncture should make efforts to

Paleogenomics is a discipline in which the extraction and analysis of DNA from ancient biological remains are studied to understand the evolutionary history of past organisms.Research on this topic has revealed the evolutionary history of humans and other species,traced human migrations and genetic changes,and investigated ancient diseases and environmental influences due to its uniqueness.This paper reviews the scientific and technological history of the development of paleogenomics,including the molecular cloning era,the polymerase chain reaction(PCR)technique era,the genomics era,and the bio-data analysis era.This field explores the key technological development processes and effects of significant scientific discoveries,ranging from gene cloning technology and sequencing technology to breakthroughs and applications in big data analysis,addressing challenges such as sample contamination and trace collection analysis in paleogenomics research.

Benchmark experiment on slab^(238)U with D-T neutrons for validation of evaluated nuclear data

A benchmark experiment on^(238)U slab samples was conducted using a deuterium-tritium neutron source at the China Institute of Atomic Energy.The leakage neutron spectra within energy levels of 0.8-16 MeV at 60°and 120°were measured using the time-of-flight method.The samples were prepared as rectangular slabs with a 30 cm square base and thicknesses of 3,6,and 9 cm.The leakage neutron spectra were also calculated using the MCNP-4C program based on the latest evaluated files of^(238)U evaluated neutron data from CENDL-3.2,ENDF/B-Ⅷ.0,JENDL-5.0,and JEFF-3.3.Based on the comparison,the deficiencies and improvements in^(238)U evaluated nuclear data were analyzed.The results showed the following.(1)The calculated results for CENDL-3.2 significantly overestimated the measurements in the energy interval of elastic scattering at 60°and 120°.(2)The calculated results of CENDL-3.2 overestimated the measurements in the energy interval of inelastic scattering at 120°.(3)The calculated results for CENDL-3.2 significantly overestimated the measurements in the 3-8.5 MeV energy interval at 60°and 120°.(4)The calculated results with JENDL-5.0 were generally consistent with the measurement results.

An analysis of the interaction mechanism between the social history of medicine research and health communication from the perspective of mass communication

The mass communication model and interactive ritual chain theory,which serve as communication paradigms in the new media era,facilitate and enhance the synergy between the fields of social history of medicine and health communication.This study employs a comprehensive framework based on the five elements of the mass communication model:information source,communication subject,communication object,message content,and post-communication feedback.Additionally,it incorporates the interactive ritual chain theory to examine the evolving dynamics and developmental trajectory of research in the social history of medicine during the new media era.Conclusively,this paper acknowledges the existing interaction gaps in the interaction between health communication and the social history of medicine research while outlining the challenges for fostering collaboration and proposing strategic optimizations for effective integration.
