The Songhua River,one of the seven major rivers in China,locates in Northeast China with 1897 km long.This study aims to investigate the concentrations,distribution,source apportionment and ecological risk assessment of heavy metals including copper(Cu),zinc(Zn),cadmium(Cd),lead(Pb),nickel(Ni)and chromium(Cr)in main stream and tributaries of the Songhua River in Jilin Province,Northeast China.Surface sediment samples(0–15 cm)were collected from 39 sampling sites in the Songhua River in July 2012.Concentrations of Cu,Zn,Cd,Pb,Ni and Cr were analyzed.The mean concentrations of heavy metals were(24.0±9.2)mg/kg,(59.3±18.0)mg/kg,(4.0±2.1)mg/kg,(39.0±27.9)mg/kg,(18.5±8.6)mg/kg and(56.1±17.6)mg/kg for Cu,Zn,Cd,Pb,Cr and Ni,respectively.The average contents of Cu,Cd,Pb,Cr and Ni were higher than their background values.Higher concentrations of heavy metals were found in the lower reaches with industrial enterprises and cities along the Songhua River.Zn,Pb and Ni might come from industrial sewage and mineral processing,while Cu and Cd were derived from electroplating wastewater and agricultural non-point source sewage.Cr originated from lithogenic sources.The concentrations of Cu,Zn and Cr were below the effect range low(ERL)at all sites,while Cd,Pb and Ni concentrations were detected ranging from ERL to the effect range median(ERM)at more than 15%of samples.Concentrations of Ni exceeded ERM in more than 50%of samples.The mean toxic units of heavy metals in the Songhua River decreased following the order:Cd(6.7)>Pb(2.2)>Ni(1.6)>Cu(0.7)>Cr(0.5)=Zn(0.5).Potential ecological risk index was found to be higher in middle and lower reaches of the Songhua River,where Cd could impose an extremely high ecological risk.

Identifying and selecting high-quality seeds is crucial for improving crop yield.The purpose of this study was to improve the selection of crop seeds based on separating vital seeds from dead seeds,by predicting the potential germination ability of each seed,and thus improving seed quality.The methods of oxygen consumption (Q) of seeds and the headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry(HS-GC-IMS) were evaluated for identifying the viability of individual seeds.Firstly,the oxygen consumption technique showed clear differences among the values related to respiratory characteristics for seeds that were either vital or not,and the discrimination ability of final oxygen consumption(Q_(120)) was achieved not only in sweet corn seeds but also in pepper and wheat seeds.Besides,Qtwas established as a new variable to shorten the measuring process in the Q2 (oxygen sensor) procedure,which was significantly related to the viability of individual seeds.To minimize seed damage during measurement,the timing for viability evaluation was pinpointed at the 12,6 and 9 h for pepper,sweet corn,and wheat seeds based on the new variables concerning oxygen consumption (i.e.,Q_(12),Q_(6)and Q_(9),respectively).The accuracies of viability prediction were 91.9,97.7 and 96.2%,respectively.Dead seeds were identified and hence discarded,leading to an enhancement in the quality of the seed lot as indicated by an increase in germination percentage,from 86.6,90.9,and 53.8%to all at 100%.We then used the HS-GC-IMS to determine the viability of individual sweet corn seeds,noting that corn seed has a heavier weight so the volatile gas components are more likely to be detected.A total of 48 chromatographic peaks were identified,among which 38 target compounds were characterized,including alcohols,aldehydes,acids and esters.However,there were no significant differences between the vital and dead seeds,due to the trace amount volatile composition differences among the individual seeds.Furthermore,a PCA based on the signal intensities of th

Background： About 50% of the cerebral ischemia events are induced by intracranial and extracranial atheroscterosis. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy for displaying atherosclerotic plaques in carotid arteries and analyzing their ingredients by using high-resolution new magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） techniques. Methods： Totally, 49 patients suspected ofextracranial carotid artery stenosis were subjected to cranial MRI scan and magnetic resonance angiography （MRA） examination on carotid arteries, and high-resolution bright-blood and black-blood MRI analysis was carried out within 1 week. Digital subtraction angiography （DSA） examination was carried out for 16 patients within I month. Results： Totally, 103 plaques were detected in the 49 patients, which were characterized by localized or diffusive thickening of the vessel wall, with the intrusion of crescent-shaped abnormal signal into lumens. Fibrous cap was displayed as isointensity in T I -weighted image （T I WI） and hyperintensities in proton density weighted image （PDWI） and T2-weighted image （T2WI）, lipid core was displayed as isointensity or slight hyperintensities in T1WI, isointensity, hyperintensities or hypointensity in PDWI, and hypointensity in T2WI. Calcification in plaques was detected in 11 patients. Eight patients were detected with irregular plaque surface or ulcerative plaques, which were characterized by irregular intravascular space surface in the black-blood sequences, black hypointensity band was not detected in three-dimensional time-of-flight, or the hypointensity band was not continuous, and intrusion of hyperintensities into plaques can be detected. Bright-blood and black-blood techniques were highly correlated with the diagnosis of contrast-enhanced MRA in angiostenosis degree, Rs 0.97, P 〈 0.001. In comparison to DSA, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of MRI diagnosis of stenosis for ≥50% were 88.9%. 100%, and 97.9%, respectively. Atomically precise gold and/or silver nanoclusters play a key role in crystallography and coordination chemistry.Compared with gold nanoclusters,silver nanoclusters become unstable and difficult to crystallize due to the high reactivity ofmetal silver.Herein,we report a silver nanocluster Ag_(213)(Adm-S)_(44)Cl_(33)(Ag_(213))coprotected by bulky thiolates and chlorides.The low surface thiolate coverage(about 45%)endows Ag_(213)with high catalytic activity.Supported on activated carbon,Ag_(213)nanoclusters exhibit excellent electrocatalytic oxygen reduction performance with Eonset and E_(1/2)values of 0.89 and 0.72 V,respectively,close to the values of commercial Pt/C catalyst.This is the first report on the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction of nanoclusters with more than 100 silver atoms.Ag_(213)with the diameter of 2.75 nm comprises a core–shell structure Ag_(7)@Ag_(32)@Ag_(77)@Ag_(97).The strong plasmonic absorption band at 454 nm reveals the metallic nature of Ag_(213).Interestingly,halide is of importance.Chloride facilitates the formation of Ag_(213)and Ag_(56)(Adm-S)_(33)Cl_(16)(Ag_(56)^(Cl))while bromide can promote the formation of Ag_(56)(Adm-S)_(33)Br_(16)(Ag_(56)Br).This work provides an example for the study of largesized metal nanoclusters and nanocluster-based electrocatalysts.

The aim of this study is to investigate the protective effects of a small molecular fraction(SMF) of Polygoni multiflori Radix Praeparata(PMRP) in a cyclophosphamide(CTX) induced anemia mouse model. Small molecular fraction of PMRP was prepared and identified by high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(HPLC-Q-TOF-MS). In pharmacology, we examined the peripheral hemogram and thymus and spleen index. The content of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor(GM-CSF) in serum was mensurated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(EliSA);The level of superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase(CAT), total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC), and malondialdehyde(MDA) in serum and spleen tissue homogenate were detected, and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX) was assayed in spleen. The results show that SMF can significantly accelerate the recovery of peripheral hemogram, increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes and GM-CSF in serum and spleen. SMF also increases the number of spleen cells, improves bone marrow pathology. In conclusion, the SMF of PMRP promoted the recovery of hematopoietic function in a CTX-induced anemia mouse, which can support SMF to be used as an adjunct to chemotherapy to counteract its side effects.

Background Pediatric sepsis is a complicated condition characterized by life-threatening organ failure resulting from a dysregulated host response to infection in children.It is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality,and rapid detection and administration of antimicrobials have been emphasized.The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic biomarkers of pediatric sepsis and the function of immune cell infiltration in the development of this illness.Methods Three gene expression datasets were available from the Gene Expression Omnibus collection.First,the differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were found with the use of the R program,and then gene set enrichment analysis was carried out.Subsequently,the DEGs were combined with the major module genes chosen using the weighted gene co-expression network.The hub genes were identified by the use of three machine-learning algorithms:random forest,support vector machine-recursive feature elimination,and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator.The receiver operating characteristic curve and nomogram model were used to verify the discrimination and efficacy of the hub genes.In addition,the inflammatory and immune status of pediatric sepsis was assessed using cell-type identification by estimating relative subsets of RNA transcripts(CIBERSORT).The relationship between the diagnostic markers and infiltrating immune cells was further studied.Results Overall,after overlapping key module genes and DEGs,we detected 402 overlapping genes.As pediatric sepsis diagnostic indicators,CYSTM1(AUC=0.988),MMP8(AUC=0.973),and CD177(AUC=0.986)were investigated and demonstrated statistically significant differences(Plidation set.As indicated by the immune cell infiltration analysis,multiple immune cells may be involved in the development of pediatric sepsis.Additionally,all diagnostic characteristics may correlate with immune cells to varying degrees.Conclusions The candidate hub genes(CD177,CYSTM1,and MMP8)were identifi

Background This study analyzed the motor development and suspected developmental coordination disorder of very and moderately preterm(0.05).Conclusions Our findings have important implications for understanding motor impairment in children born at different gestational ages.Very and moderately preterm preschoolers have an increased risk of DCD,and long-term follow-up should be provided for early detection and intervention.

The investigation of NTO/HMX-based plastic-bonded explosives and its safety performance

3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one(NTO)is the main component of insensitive munitions(IM)formulation because of its outstanding insensitive properties.In this paper,a series of NTO/HMX-based compositeexplosives were prepared and characterized.The study focuses on the effect of NTO on the perfommance of the formulations,especially the safety performance.The results revealed that the mechanical sensi-tivity of fomulations was associated with NTO content,as well as the thermal conductivity,specific heat capacity and Arrhenius parameters.Then,the high amount of NTO using in formulation was proved to be helpful for NTO/HMX-based formulation to exhibit good thermal safety.Besides,by accelerating rate calorimeter(ARC)and a modified cook-off equipment,the pressure and pressure rise rate were proved as the important indicator for judging the thermal safety performance in confined spaces.Finally,the numerical simulation was used as a credible method for predicting the respond temperature of cook-off experiment.
