Plasma membrane lipid scrambling causing phosphatidylserine exposure negatively regulates NK cell activation

One of the hallmarks of live cells is the asymmetric distribution of lipids across their plasma membrane.Changes in this asymmetry due to lipid"scrambling"result in phosphatidylserine exposure at the cell surface that is detected by annexin V staining.This alteration is observed during cell death processes such as apoptosis,and during physiological responses such as platelet degranulation and membrane repair.Previous studies have shown that activation of NK cells is accompanied by exposure of phosphatidylserine at the cell surface.While this response was thought to be indicative of ongoing NK cell death,it may also reflect the regulation of NK cell activation in the absence of cell death.Herein,we found that NK cell activation was accompanied by rapid phosphatidylserine exposure to an extent proportional to the degree of NK cell activation.Through enforced expression of a lipid scramblase,we provided evidence that activation-induced lipid scrambling in NK cells is reversible and does not lead to cell death.In contrast,lipid scrambling attenuates NKcell activation.This response was accompanied by reduced cell surface expression of activating receptors such as 2B4,and by loss of binding of Src family protein tyrosine kinases Fyn and Lck to the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane.Hence,lipid scrambling during NK cell activation is,at least in part,a physiological response that reduces the NK cell activation level.This effect is due to the ability of lipid scrambling to alter the distribution of membrane-associated receptors and kinases required for NK cell activation.

Preparation of Ni2P/Al-SBA-15 catalyst and its performance for benzofuran hydrodeoxygenation

The Al-doped Ni_2P/Al-SBA-15 catalyst with high hydrodeoxygenation(HDO) activity was synthesized by temperature programmed reduction at a relatively low reduction temperature of 400 °C. The as-prepared catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), H_2 temperature-programmed reduction(H_2-TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), transmission electron microscope(TEM), NH3 temperature programmed desorption(NH_3-TPD), N_2 adsorption–desorption and CO uptake. The effect of Al on benzofuran(BF) HDO performance was investigated. The result indicates that the incorporation of Al into the SBA-15 support can promote the formation of much uniform, smaller, highly dispersed Ni_2 P particles on the catalyst. The Al also contributes to suppress the enrichment of P and promote more exposed Ni sites on the surface. In addition, the incorporation of Al can enhance the acid strength. The total deoxygenated product yield over Ni_2P/Al-SBA-15 reached 90.3%, which is an increase of 19.4%, when compared with that found for Ni_2P/SBA-15(70.9%).

6-DOF Motion Assessment of A Hydrodynamic Numerical Simulation of A Semisubmersible Platform Using Prototype Monitoring Data

Hydrodynamic numerical simulations are used to conduct structural analyses and inform the design of engineered marine structures.In this paper,a hydrodynamic numerical model of“Nanhai Tiaozhan”(NHTZ)FPS platform was established according to its design specifications.The model was assessed with two sets of field monitoring data representing harsh and conventional sea states.The motion responses of the platform according to the measured data and the hydrodynamic simulation were compared by reviewing their statistical characteristics,distributions,and spectrum characteristics.The comparison showed that the hydrodynamic model could correctly simulate the frequency domain characteristics of the motion responses of the platform.However,the simulation underestimated the reciprocating motions of the floating body and the influence of slow drift on the motion of the platform.Meanwhile,analysis of the monitoring data revealed that the translational degrees of freedom(DOF)and rotational DOF of the platform were coupled,but these coupled motion states were not apparent in the hydrodynamic simulation.

Rare earth metals modified Ni-S2O8^2-/ZrO2-Al2O3 catalysts for n-pentane isomerization

The effects of adding rare earth(RE) metals,such as Ce,Yb and Pr to Ni-S_2O_8^(2-)/ZrO_2-Al_2O_3(Ni-SZA) on the structure of catalysts as well as their isomerization performance were studied.The prepared catalysts were characterized by XRD,BET,FT-IR,Py-IR,and H_2-TPR,The results showed that the addition of RE metals can increase the strength and amounts of the acid sites,improve the redox properties of catalysts.The Yb-Ni-SZA catalyst showed the best redox properties,which could provide enough metallic sites.In addition,it provided the largest amounts of weak and moderately strong acid sites.Among RE metals modified Ni-SZA catalyst,Yb-Ni-SZA exhibited the highest isopentane yield of 61.7%at 160 °C.The optimum isomerization catalytic performance of the catalysts decreased in the order of Yb-Ni-SZA > Pr-Ni-SZA > Ni-SZA > Ce-Ni-SZA.

How different types of financial service providers support small- and mediumenterprises under the impact of COVID-19 pandemic: From the perspective of expectancy theory

The 2019 novel coronavirus disease(COVID-19)pandemic has significantly impacted several aspects of the society and the economy.A problem that needs prompt attention in this situation is the increasing difficulties faced by small-and mediumsized enterprises(SMEs)in raising capital,which has aroused great concern from multiple stakeholders such as public administrations and regulators.As the major supply of capital,financial service providers(FSPs)play a critical role in financing SMEs.However,how FSPs deal with SME financing during shocks has not yet been fully researched.Accordingly,in this study,a theoretical framework based on expectancy theory is proposed to explore the expected strategic adjustments of FSPs in financing SMEs.Specifically,this study investigates 272 FSPs in China on their expectancy and attitude on financing to SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic.Furthermore,this study has divided FSPs into three categories:commercial banks,non-bank financial institutions,and credit-enhanced FSPs.Differences among these categories are compared and analyzed.

An external electric or magnetic field can transfer high-intensity energy directly to the electronic scale of materials,and change the spin,energy level arrangement and trajectory of electrons.These changes produce tremendous and profound impacts on the microstructure and mechanical properties of metal materials,which may be impos-sible with traditional technologies.This paper reviews the effects of electric or magnetic field on the microstruc-tures of solid metals including phase transformation,precipitation,recrystallization,dislocations and so on.Based on the existing research results,the mechanisms of these effects have been discussed.Additionally,some typical applications of electric and magnetic treatments on solid metals have been described and the challenges in this field have also been discussed.

Regulation of JAK/STAT signal pathway by miR-21 in the pathogenesis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis

Background Overexpression of the components of the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription(JAK/STAT)signalling pathway is the key factor of the pathogenic mechanisms underlying systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis(sJIA).The study aims to investigate the association between miR-21 and the JAK/STAT signal pathway in JIA.Methods Total RNA was extracted from peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)in active JIA patients.The relative expressions of miR-21,STAT3 and suppressor of cytokine signalling 3 in PBMCs were measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction and their expressions were measured by western blotting and dual-luciferase reported assay.Rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synovial cell(RASF)was stimulated to become to osteoclasts using macrophage colony-stimulating factor(M-CSF)and factors that can impact on their differentiation ability were identified through the transfection of LV3-miR-21.The expression of STAT3/p-STAT3 was measured by western blot,and the levels of interleukin(IL)-17A,p65,matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)-3,MMP-4 and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κd3 after the LV3-miR-21 transfection were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Finally,the miR-21 targeted STAT3 gene was detected by the dualluciferase reported assay.Results The expression of miR-21 was significantly lower in JIA patients than in healthy control(P<0.05).The level of STAT3 was increased in PBMCs of JIA group compared with control group(P<0.05).Furthermore,the expression levels of miR-21 in sJIA and polyarticular JIA groups were negatively correlated with STAT3(r=-0.5854/r=-0.6134,P<0.05).The expression of STAT3 changed little in PBMCS after the stimulation of IL-6 and not in RASFs with transfection of LV3-miR-21.The expression of p-STAT3 decreased after the stimulation of IL-6 in RASFs transfected by LV3-miR-21(P<0.05).RASFs were induced into osteoclasts using M-CSF.The number of osteoclasts as determined by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining was significantly lower in group m

Did Species and Functional Diversities of Sandy Intertidal Marine Nematodes Reveal Similar Response to Environmental Changes?

Free living marine nematodes were sampled from two sandy beaches in Dalian City,in December of 2015,and April,July,and October of 2016.The spatial and seasonal variations of marine nematode species diversity(based on species abundance dataset)and functional diversity(based on functional traits dataset:feeding types and life history strategies)were investigated to understand the environmental drivers and how they respond to specific environmental variations.Sediment granularity was revealed to be the main environmental factor causing spatial differences in nematode diversity indices between the two beaches.Species diversity indices,namely species number,Margalef index,Shannon-Wiener diversity index(H’),were higher in fine-grained sediments,while the functional diversity indices,including functional evenness,functional dispersion,and Rao’s quadratic entropy index(RaoQ),were higher in coarse-grained sediments.Nematode species diversity indices also fluctuated with seasonal variations of temperature,dissolved oxygen,pH,salinity,and sediment chlorophyll-a within the study beaches.However,functional diversity indices did not show significant seasonal variations and exhibited weak correlation with the studied environmental variables.Overall,the functional diversity indices were negatively correlated with the species diversity indices,suggesting an inconsistent response to environmental changes.A decrease in nematode species diversity in coarse sands,accompanied by an increase in functional diversity,can be regarded as an early warning signal of environment disturbance.If more biological traits are involved in calculating functional diversity indices,it will be helpful for the future study of the internal connections of species diversity and functional diversity.

High-Efficiency Electromagnetic Interference Shielding of rGO@FeNi/Epoxy Composites with Regular Honeycomb Structures

With the rapid development of fifth-generation mobile com-munication technology and wearable electronic devices,electromagnetic interference and radiation pollution caused by electromagnetic waves have attracted worldwide attention.Therefore,the design and development of highly efficient EMI shielding materials are of great importance.In this work,the three-dimensional graphene oxide(GO)with regular honeycomb structure(GH)is firstly constructed by sacrificial template and freeze-dry-ing methods.Then,the amino functionalized FeNi alloy particles(f-FeNi)are loaded on the GH skeleton followed by in-situ reduction to prepare rGH@FeNi aerogel.Finally,the rGH@FeNi/epoxy EMI shielding com-posites with regular honeycomb structure is obtained by vacuum-assisted impregnation of epoxy resin.Benefitting from the construction of regular honeycomb structure and electromagnetic synergistic effect,the rGH@FeNi/epoxy composites with a low rGH@FeNi mass fraction of 2.1 wt%(rGH and f-FeNi are 1.2 and 0.9 wt%,respectively)exhibit a high EMI shielding effectiveness(EMI SE)of 46 dB,which is 5.8 times of that(8 dB)for rGO/FeNi/epoxy composites with the same rGO/FeNi mass fraction.At the same time,the rGH@FeNi/epoxy composites also possess excellent thermal stability(heat-resistance index and temperature at the maximum decomposition rate are 179.1 and 389.0°C respectively)and mechanical properties(storage modulus is 8296.2 MPa).

Evaporation characteristics of liquid drops on silt soil surface and the influences on soil-water characteristic curve

The soil particles are often regarded as completely hydrophilic solids and it is assumed that the contact angle between soil particles and pore water is constant in geotechnical engineering. However, the contact angle hysteresis exists on nonideal solid surfaces. The results of evaporation tests of liquid drops on silt surfaces with different initial contact angles indicate that the contact angle decreases continuously during the evaporation process, but the wetting diameter remains constant. The soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) experiment is carried out based on these test results. The ideal spherical particle model is established to study the soil-water characteristic curve under the constant contact angle (non-evaporation) and continuous changes in contact angle (evaporation), respectively. When the initial contact angle of soil is small, the variation of SWCC is small under both constant and continuous variation of contact angles. Thus it is reasonable to ignore the impact of contact angle on soil-water characteristic curve when the initial contact angle of soil is small. However, the SWCC is greatly affected by both constant and continuous variation of contact angles when the initial contact angle of soil is large. Under the same moisture content, matric suction measured in samples with continuous changes in contact angle is obviously higher than that of soil samples with a constant contact angle. The matric suction error caused by changes in contact angle can reach 56.1%. Many tests related to unsaturated soil mechanics involve soil interface problems in geotechnical engineering. The principle of interface chemistry in the soil should be fully considered in the design of the test instruments that are more reasonable and the test result can be much closer to the real situation. © 2020, Science Press.
