The tropical-subtropical evergreen forest transition in East Asia:An exploration

The transition from tropical to subtropical(warm temperate)evergreen forests is more clearly apparent in East Asia,fromNepal to the western Pacific coast,than elsewhere in the tropics.We review the nature of this transition and hypothesize the physical,ultimately climatic,factors thatmay maintain it,with a special focus on how the increasing instability and warming of climates will affect these forests.A primary climatic mediator of the transition is proposed,thereby offering a testable hypothesis for the climateeforest transition relationship.What is known of this transition is summarized in context of the primary climatic mediators of elevational zonation of forest formations in equatorial Asia to the tree line,in the Himalaya at the India-Indo-Burma northern tropical margin,and as both elevational and latitudinal zonation in southern China.Consequent secondary edaphic and other physical changes are described for the Himalaya,and hypothesized for southern China.The forest ecotones are seen to be primarily defined by tree floristic change,on which account changes in structure and physiognomy are determined.The montane tropical-subtropical transition in the Himalaya is narrowand observed to correlate with an as yet ill-defined frost line.A distinct tropical-subtropical transition forest is recognized in the southwest Chinamountains.There is a total change in canopy species at the Himalayan ecotone,but subcanopy tropical species persist along an elevational decline of c.400 m.The latitudinal transition in South China is analogous,but here the tropical subcanopy component extends north over ten degrees latitude,albeit in decline.The tropical-subtropical transition is uniquely clear in East Asia because here alone a tropical wet summer-dry winter monsoon extends to 35north latitude,encompassing the subtropical evergreen forest,whereas subtropical evergreen forests elsewhere exist under drier temperate summer climate regimes.

Claudin-18.2(CLDN18.2)is a tight junction protein that is typically expressed only in normal gastric mucosal cells.When malignancy occurs,cell polarity is lost,intercellular adhesion structures are destroyed,and CLDN18.2 is therefore exposed to the surface of tumor cells[1].CLDN18.2 is specifically expressed in approximately 40%of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)-negative gastrointestinal cancers,making it a promising emerging therapeutic target.As recently reported,zolbetuximab,an CLDN18.2 targeting antibody,has shown amazing efficacy in patients with CLDN18.2-positive and HER2-negative gastric cancers[2].In clinical practice,the assessment of CLDN18.2 expression status is crucial to the determination of treatment regimen for patients.Molecular imaging can be used as a non-invasive test for diagnosis,staging,and efficacy monitoring.The results of molecular imaging of CLDN18.2 have been published continuously,and the development of CLDN18.2 molecular probe is of great significance for the development of tumor targeted therapy(Fig.1).

Multiple Random Forests Based Intelligent Location of Single-phase Grounding Fault in Power Lines of DFIG-based Wind Farm

To address the problems of wind power abandonment and the stoppage of electricity transmission caused by a short circuit in a power line of a doubly-fed induction generator(DFIG) based wind farm, this paper proposes an intelligent location method for a single-phase grounding fault based on a multiple random forests(multi-RF) algorithm. First, the simulation model is built, and the fundamental amplitudes of the zerosequence currents are extracted by a fast Fourier transform(FFT) to construct the feature set. Then, the random forest classification algorithm is applied to establish the fault section locator. The model is resampled on the basis of the bootstrap method to generate multiple sample subsets, which are used to establish multiple classification and regression tree(CART) classifiers. The CART classifiers use the mean decrease in the node impurity as the feature importance,which is used to mine the relationship between features and fault sections. Subsequently, a fault section is identified by voting on the test results for each classifier. Finally, a multi-RF regression fault locator is built to output the predicted fault distance. Experimental results with PSCAD/EMTDC software show that the proposed method can overcome the shortcomings of a single RF and has the advantage of locating a short hybrid overhead/cable line with multiple branches. Compared with support vector machines(SVMs)and previously reported methods, the proposed method can meet the location accuracy and efficiency requirements of a DFIG-based wind farm better.

1Introduction A low-cost slot array antenna is proposed for fifth-generation wireless communication(5G)n260 band applications.The antenna is based on the low-cost printed circuit board(PCB)material FR-4.Empty substrate-integrated waveguide is used to avoid high dielectric loss.High-order-mode cavities are introduced to reduce the complexity of the feeding network.The proposed antenna shows a maximum realized gain of 27 dBi with a radiation efficiency of 72.4%.The measurement and simulation results achieve good agreement.The proposed antenna can be a good candidate for low-cost millimeter-wave(mmWave)wireless communication systems.

A 2-dimension linguistic lattice implication algebra(2DL-LIA)can build a bridge between logical algebra and 2-dimension fuzzy linguistic information.In this paper,the notion of a Boolean element is proposed in a 2DL-LIA and some properties of Boolean elements are discussed.Then derivations on 2DL-LIAs are introduced and the related properties of derivations are investigated.Moreover,it proves that the derivations on 2DL-LIAs can be constructed by Boolean elements.

Torsional Response Analysis of Flexible Pipe Based on Theory and Finite Element Method

As key components connecting offshore floating production platforms and subsea imports, offshore flexible pipes play significant roles in oil, natural gas, and water injection. It is found that torsional failure is one of the failure modes of flexible pipes during transportation and laying. In this paper, a theoretical model(TM) of a flexible pipe section mechanics is established, in which the carcass layer and the pressure armor layer are equivalent to the orthogonal anisotropic layers due to its complex cross-section structure. The calculation results of the TM are consistent with those of a finite element model(FEM), which can accurately describe the torsional response of the flexible pipe.Subsequently, the TM and FEM are used to discuss the influence of boundary conditions on the torsional response.The structure of the flexible pipe is stable when twisted counterclockwise. However, limiting the top axial displacement can improve the axial and radial instability of the tensile armor layer when twisted clockwise. Finally, it is recommended that the flexible pipe can be kept under top fixation during service or installation to avoid torsional failure.

Multidrug resistance(MDR) remains a major clinical obstacle to successful cancer treatment.Although diverse mechanisms of MDR have been well elucidated, such as dysregulation of drugs transporters, defects of apoptosis and autophagy machinery, alterations of drug metabolism and drug targets, disrupti on of redox homeostasis, the exact mechanisms of MDR in a specific cancer patient and the cross-talk among these different mechanisms and how they are regulated are poorly understood.Micro RNAs(mi RNAs) are a new class of small noncoding RNAs that could control the global activity of the cell by post-transcriptionally regulating a large variety of target genes and proteins expression.Accumulating evidence shows that mi RNAs play a key regulatory role in MDR through modulating various drug resistant mechanisms mentioned above, thereby holding much promise for developing novel and more effective individualized therapies for cancer treatment. This review summarizes the various MDR mechanisms and mainly focuses on the role of mi RNAs in regulating MDR in cancer treatment.

Tactile perception of textile fabrics based on friction and brain activation

Tactile perception plays a critical role in the interaction of humans and environment.It begins with the mechanical stimulation induced by friction and is processed in the somatosensory cortex.To quantify the tactile perceptions of textile fabrics,the mechanical properties of fabrics and the features extracted from the friction and vibration signals were correlated with the subjective sensation rated by questionnaires.Meanwhile,the technique of functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)was used to identify the brain areas responsible for the tactile perception of textile fabrics.The results showed that during the tactile perception of textile fabrics,the coefficient of friction increased with the increasing normal load,indicating that the deformation mechanism of skin was relevant to the friction of skin against fabrics.The features of spectral centroid(SC),coefficient of friction,and diameter and critical buckling force of fiber had a strong correlation with the perceived fineness,slipperiness,and prickliness of fabrics,respectively.The postcentral gyrus,supramarginal gyrus,and precentral gyrus,with the corresponding functional regions of the primary somatosensory cortex(SI),secondary somatosensory cortex(SII),primary motor cortex(MI),and secondary motor cortex(MII),were involved with the perceptions of fabric textures.The fiber properties and fabric surface structures that caused the multidimensional feelings tended to induce the large area,intensity,and percent signal change(PSC)of brain activity.This study is meaning for evaluating the tactile stimulation of textile fabrics and understanding the cognitive mechanism in the tactile perception of textile fabrics.

On Cost Minimization for Cache-Enabled D2D Networks with Recommendation

To accommodate the tremendous increase of mobile data traffic,cache-enabled device-to-device(D2D)communication has been taken as a promising technique to release the heavy burden of cellular networks since popular contents can be pre-fetched at user devices and shared among subscribers.As a result,cellular traffic can be offloaded and an enhanced system performance can be attainable.However,due to the limited cache capacity of mobile devices and the heterogeneous preferences among different users,the requested contents are most likely not be proactively cached,inducing lower cache hit ratio.Recommendation system,on the other hand,is able to reshape users’request schema,mitigating the heterogeneity to some extent,and hence it can boost the gain of edge caching.In this paper,the cost minimization problem for the social-aware cache-enabled D2D networks with recommendation consideration is investigated,taking into account the constraints on the cache capacity budget and the total number of recommended files per user,in which the contents are sharing between the users that trust each other.The minimization problem is an integer non-convex and non-linear programming,which is in general NP-hard.Therewith,we propose a timeefficient joint recommendation and caching decision scheme.Extensive simulation results show that the proposed scheme converges quickly and significantly reduces the average cost when compared with various benchmark strategies.
