Improving the high cycle fatigue property of Ti6Al4V ELI alloy by optimizing the surface integrity through electric pulse combined with ultrasonic surface rolling process

To improve the surface integrity and high cycle fatigue property of Ti6Al4V ELI alloy,the electric pulse has been introduced into the ultrasonic surface rolling process(USRP),which is called electric pulse-assisted ultrasonic surface rolling process(EUSRP).With the help of“electroplasticity”of the electric pulse,the thickness of the surface gradient deformation layer was about three times of the USRP specimens by adjusting the pulse current ***,the surface hardness decreases due to the continuous effect of the pulse current and the“skin effect”during *** is worth noting that the higher the applied pulse current,the more severe the *** paradox causes the fatigue performance of EUSRP specimens lower than that of USRP *** break this paradox,the EUSRP treatment is followed by a USRP *** EUSRP-2(with a pulse current of 200 A)+USRP specimens exhibit excellent surface hardness,a gradient deformation layer thickness of about 400μm,low surface roughness and high compressive residual compressive ***,the hardening mechanisms of the different surface strengthening specimens have been quantitatively analyzed in combination with microstructure *** fatigue life of Ti6Al4V ELI alloy can be improved by about 25 times at 780 MPa using the EUSRP-2+USRP treatment,the main reason for the highest fatigue life is the deepest surface gradient layer and the deepest crack initiation *** fatigue limit of the EUSRP-2+USRP specimens is not the highest because too much surface hardening causes compressive residual stress relaxation during cycling and the beneficial effect of compressive residual stress is eliminated.

In non-small cell lung cancers,the non-squamous and squamous subtypes（nsqNSCLC and sqNSCLC） exhibit disparities in pathophysiology,tumor immunology,and potential genomic correlates affecting responses to immune checkpoint inhibitor（ICI）-based *** our inhouse training cohort（n=85）,the presence of the LRP1B deleterious mutation（LRP1B-del） was associated with longer and shorter progression-free survival（PFS） on ICIs alone in nsqNSCLCs and sqNSCLCs,respectively(Pinteraction=0.008).These results were validated using a larger public ICI cohort(n=208,Pinteraction<0.001).Multiplex immunofluorescence staining revealed an association between LRP1B-del and increased and decreased numbers of tumor-infiltrating CD8+T cells in nsqNSCLCs（P=0.040） and sqNSCLCs（P=0.014）,*** the POPLAR/OAK cohort,nsqNSCLCs with LRP1B-del demonstrated improved PFS benefits from atezolizumab over docetaxel(hazard ratio（HR）=0.70,P=0.046),whereas this benefit was negligible in those without LRP1B-del（HR=1.05,P=0.64）.Conversely,sqNSCLCs without LRP1B-del benefited more from atezolizumab（HR=0.60,P=0.002） than those with LRP1B-del（HR=1.30,P=0.31）.Consistent results were observed in the in-house CHOICE-01 cohort,in which nsqNSCLCs with LRP1B-del and sqNSCLCs without LRP1B-del benefited more from toripalimab plus chemotherapy than from chemotherapy alone(Pinteraction=0.008).This multi-cohort study delineates the antithetical impacts of LRP1B-del in nsqNSCLCs and sqNSCLCs on predicting the benefits from ICI alone or with chemotherapy over chemotherapy *** findings highlight the distinct clinical utility of LRP1B-del in guiding treatment choices for nsqNSCLCs and sqNSCLCs,emphasizing the necessity for a detailed analysis based on pathological subtypes when investigating biomarkers for cancer therapeutics.

Towards total protection from impact:a viability study using EPE foam to protect falling eggs

Total protection of fragile goods and equipment during transport has become critically important as fast delivery systems are growing rapidly due to the rise of mass online commerce *** paper therefore studies the protection of falling eggs—one of the most fragile goods—through *** experiments are first conducted to obtain the critical stress at which the eggshell is damaged by falling *** are first conducted of unpackaged eggs dropping onto a granite platform from various *** element method(FEM)models of unpackaged eggs are then built to simulate the behaviour of eggs and compute their stress *** experimental data is compared with the results of FEM simulations to determine the critical stress at which the eggshell is damaged.A series of tests and numerical simulations are then carried out for eggs wrapped in expanded polyethylene(EPE)*** stress distribution of both a single egg and multiple eggs in packaging are *** empirical formula between the drop speed(or height)and the bottom thickness of the EPE foam packaging is obtained,which can be useful in the design of packaging for the total protection of eggs that may fall during usual transport and delivery *** experimental and numerical results from this study show that it is viable to protect fragile goods,as long as the EPE form packaging has sufficient *** proposed study and design procedure are helpful for the selection of key parameters of foam packaging to protect fragile industry products from impact.

Tin phosphides are attractive anode materials for ultrafast lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)because of their ultrahigh Li-ion diffusion capability and large theoretical-specific ***,difficulties in synthesis and large size enabling electrochemical irreversibility impede their ***,an in situ catalytic phosphorization strategy is developed to synthesize SnP/CoP hetero-nanocrystals within reduced graphene oxide(rGO)-coated carbon frameworks,in which the SnP relative formation energy is significantly decreased according to density functional theory(DFT)*** optimized hybrids exhibit ultrafast charge/discharge capability(260 mA·h·g^(-1)at 50 A·g^(-1))without capacity fading(645 mA·h·g^(-1)at 2 A·g^(-1))through 1500 *** lithiation/delithiation mechanism is disclosed,showing that the 4.0 nm sized SnP/CoP nanocrystals possess a very high reversibility and that the previously formed metallic Co of CoP at a relatively high potential accelerates the subsequent reaction kinetics of SnP,hence endowing them with ultrafast charge/discharge capability,which is further verified by the relative dynamic current density distributions according to the finite element analysis.

Characterization of a collection of Chinese fir elite genotypes using *** amplified polymorphism markers

Chinese fir [Cunninghamia lanceolata （Lamb.） Hook] is a major timber tree species in China. In the pre- sent study, sequence-related amplified polymorphism （SRAP） markers were used to evaluate the polymorphisms, diversity, and relationships in a collection of Chinese fir elite genotypes （n = 103） from the Lechang provenance, an endangered provenance. Thirty-five SRAP primer combinations produced 620 bands among the tested 103 Lechang provenance genotypes and 17 nonSLechang provenance genotypes; 577 （93.1%） of these were polymorphic, yielding an average of 16.5 polymorphic bands per primer combination. Of the SRAP primer combinations （n = 35）, I4 ones identified 〉70.0 % of the 120 genotypes. The Mel2-Eml9 combination had the strongest discriminatory ability with 93.3 % of the genotypes iden- tified. An UPGMA dendrogram further showed that most of the Lechang provenance genotypes （87.4 %） grouped together （Cluster A）. The Lechang genotypes had a con- siderable amount of genetic variation with genetic simi- larity from 0.40 to 0.81. The current work may facilitate the management of the endangered Lechang Chinese fir provenance.

Vibration Response and Stress Analysis of Planar Elastic Tube Bundle Induced by Fluid Flow

Flow?induced vibration plays a positive role on heat transfer enhancement. Meanwhile, it is also a negative factor for fatigue strength. Satisfying the fatigue strength is the primary prerequisite for heat transfer enhancement. This paper numerically studied the flow?induced vibration of planar elastic tube bundle based on a two?way fluid–structure interaction(FSI) calculation. The numerical calculation involved the unsteady, three?dimensional incompressible governing equations solved with finite volume approach and the dynamic balance equation of planar elastic tube bundle solved with finite element method combined with dynamic mesh scheme. The numerical approach was verified by comparing with the published experimental results. Then the vibration trajectory, deformation and stress contour of planar elastic tube bundle were all studied. Results show that the combined movement of planar elastic tube bundle represents the agitation from inside to outside. The vibration of out?of?plane is the main vibration form with the typically sinusoidal behavior because the magnitude of displacement along the out?of?plane direction is the 100 times than the value of in?plane direction. The dangerous point locates in the innermost tube where the equivalent stress can be utilized to study the multiaxial fatigue of planar elastic tube bundle due to the alternating stress concentration. In the velocity range of 0.2-3 m/s, it is inferred that the vibration amplitude plays a role on the stress response and the stress amplitude is susceptible to the fluid velocity. This research paves a way for studying the fatigue strength of planar elastic tube bundle by flow?induced vibration.

n-Channel Organic Transistors Processed from Halogen-Free Solvents： Solvent Effect on Thin-Film Morphology and Charge Transport

Non-chlorinated solvents are highly preferable for organic electronic processing due to their environmentally friendly characteristics. Four different halogen-free solvents, tetrafuran, toluene, meta-xylene and 1,2,4-trimethyl- benzene, were selected to fabricate n-channel organic thin film transistors （OTFTs） based on 3-hexylundecyl sub- stituted naphthalene diimides fused with （1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene）malononitrile groups （NDI3hu-DTYM2）. The OTFTs based on NDI3hu-DTYM2 showed electron mobility of up to 1.37 cm2-V-1·s -1 under ambient condition. This is among the highest device performance for n-channel OTFTs processed from halogen-free solvents. The dif- ferent thin-film morphologies, from featureless low crystalline morphology to well-aligned nanofibres, have a great effect on the device performance. These results might shed some light on solvent selection and the resulting solution process for organic electronic devices.

Remote Sensing of Tropical Cyclone Thermal Structure from Satellite Microwave Sounding Instruments: Impacts of Background Profiles on Retrievals

A variational retrieval system often requires background atmospheric profiles and surface parameters in its minimization process. This study investigates the impacts of specific background profiles on retrievals of tropical cyclone(TC) thermal structure. In our Microwave Retrieval Testbed(MRT), the K-means clustering algorithm is utilized to generate a set of mean temperature and water vapor profiles according to stratiform and convective precipitation in hurricane conditions. The Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder(ATMS) observations are then used to select the profiles according to cloud type. It is shown that the cloud-based background profiles result in better hurricane thermal structures retrieved from ATMS observations. Compared to the Global Positioning System(GPS) dropsonde observations, the temperature and specific humidity errors in the TC inner region are less than 3 K and 2.5 g kg^(–1), respectively, which are significantly smaller than the retrievals without using the cloud-based profiles. Further experiments show that all the ATMS observations could retrieve well both temperature and humidity structures, especially within the inner core region. Thus, both temperature and humidity profiles derived from microwave sounding instruments in hurricane conditions can be reliably used for evaluation of the storm intensity with a high fidelity.
