Cell walls in plants,particularly forest trees,are the major carbon sink of the terrestrial *** and biosynthetic features of plant cell walls were revealed early on,focusing mostly on herbaceous model *** developments in genomics,transcriptomics,epigenomics,transgenesis,and associated analytical techniques are enabling novel insights into formation of woody cell ***,we review multilevel regulation of cell wall biosynthesis in forest tree *** highlight current approaches to engineering cell walls as potential feedstock for materials and energy and survey reported field tests of such engineered transgenic *** outline opportunities and challenges in future research to better understand cell type biogenesis for more efficient wood cell wall modification and utilization for biomaterials or for enhanced carbon capture and storage.

Background:In recent years,there has been increased research interest in both smartphone addiction and social media addiction as well as the development of psychometric instruments to assess these ***,there is a lack of psychometric evaluation for instruments assessing smartphone addiction and social media addiction in *** present study evaluated the psychometric properties and gender measurement invariance of the Thai version of the Smartphone Application-Based Addiction Scale(SABAS)and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale(BSMAS).Method:A total of 801 Thai university students participated in an online survey from January 2022 to July 2022 which included demographic information,SABAS,BSMAS,and the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form(IGDS9-SF).Results:Confirmatory Factor Analyses(CFAs)found that both the SABAS and BSMAS had a one-factor *** demonstrated adequate psychometric properties of both instruments and also supported measurement invariance across ***,scores on the SABAS and BSMAS were correlated with scores on the ***:The results indicated that the SABAS and BSMAS are useful psychometric instruments for assessing the risk of smartphone addiction and social media addiction among Thai young adults.

为满足消费者对营养健康、风味多样的方便食品较高的需求,以高湿挤压大豆蛋白肉为原料开发了传统菜肴宫保鸡丁的仿真预制菜(The prepared dish kung Pao Chicken with soy protein artificial meat,SPAM-KPC),并比较了不同贮藏温度(4、25和37℃)下SPAM-KPC贮藏品质的变化。以菌落总数为影响产品货架期的关键品质因子,建立了SPAM-KPC的货架期预测模型。结果发现:三种温度下贮藏15 d的SPAM-KPC样品菌落总数从0.67 lg(CFU/g)分别增长至2.73、3.37、4.33 lg(CFU/g);pH(从6.22分别下降至5.98、5.87和5.69)和感官得分(从25.12分别下降至22.67、19.52和16.84)逐渐降低;SPAM-KPC样品颜色逐渐加深,硬度和弹性降低。三种贮藏温度下SPAM-KPC产品的货架期分别为28、20和17 d。表明4℃低温贮藏是SPAM-KPC产品的最佳贮藏温度。本研究为植物基蛋白肉在预制菜加工领域的应用提供了理论参考。

Effectiveness of urban construction boundaries in Beijing:an assessment

Based on the remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) analysis of the Landsat multispectral scanner (MSS) and thematic mapper (TM) satellite images of 1983, 1993, and 2005, the present research examined the effectiveness of the urban construction boundaries (UCBs) in containing urban growth within the 6th Ring Road of Beijing Municipality. Three indicators on boundary control were proposed, through which the effectiveness of boundary containment, land inventory sufficiency and illegal adjacent development to the UCBs were explored. The results suggested that, first, the UCBs were limited in effectiveness in containing urban growth; second, the area encompassed by the UCBs might not be designed large enough to accommodate new development. The frustration of the urban growth control through the UCBs mainly resulted from the lack of a transparent system for urban land use planning and control to provide sufficient information, the limitation of the traditional land use prediction method to consider contingencies, and the absence of a mechanism to monitor and adjust the UCBs to respond just in time to urban change.

Interacting with digital contents in 3 D is an essential task in various applications such as modeling packages, gaming, virtual reality, etc. Traditional interfaces using keyboard and mouse or trackball usually require a non-trivial amount of working space as well as a learning process. We present the design of EZ-Manipulator, a new 3 D manipulation interface using smartphones that supports mobile, fast, and ambiguity-free interaction with 3 D objects. Our system leverages the built-in multi-touch input and gyroscope sensor of smartphones to achieve 9 degrees-of-freedom axis-constrained manipulation and free-form *** EZ-Manipulator to manipulate objects in 3 D is easy. The user merely has to perform intuitive singleor two-finger gestures and rotate the hand-held device to perform manipulations at fine-grained and coarse levels respectively. We further investigate the ambiguity in manipulation introduced by indirect manipulations using a multi-touch interface, and propose a dynamic virtual camera adjustment to effectively resolve the ambiguity. A preliminary study shows that our system has significant lower task completion time compared to conventional use of a keyboard–mouse interface, and provides a positive user experience to both novices and experts.

BACKGROUND Sleep disturbance on the first postoperative night commonly develops for patients after day surgeries. The choice of either total intravenous anesthesia by propofol or total inhalation anesthesia with sevoflurane has become an issue for preventing sleep *** To compare sleep quality on the first postoperative night for female patients after total intravenous anesthesia by propofol and total inhalation anesthesia with *** We enrolled 61 American Society of Anesthesia(ASA) class Ⅰ-Ⅱ outpatients who underwent minor gynecologic surgeries by either propofol or sevoflurane anesthesia. Sleep quality of the very night was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) on the next day, and PSQI scores were compared by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and paired t-test pre-operatively and *** For the propofol group, the mean postoperative global PSQI score(3.3 ± 1.3) was lower than the mean preoperative global PSQI score(4.9 ± 2.3)(P < 0.001);for the sevoflurane group, the mean postoperative global PSQI score(6.5 ± 2.8) was higher than the mean preoperative global PSQI score(5.5 ± 3.2)(P = 0.02). Eighty percent of patients receiving propofol anesthesia subjectively reported improved sleep quality, but only 17% of patients receiving sevoflurane anesthesia reported improved sleep *** Sleep quality assessed by the PSQI is better improved in ASA class Ⅰ-Ⅱ female patients receiving propofol anesthesia other than sevoflurane anesthesia for undergoing minor gynecologic surgeries.

BACKGROUND： High incidence of stroke at interchange period of autumn and winter was demonstrated by epidemiological survey, and the specific causes should be further investigated. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the influence of artificial cold exposure on the incidence of stroke in renovascular hypertensive rats （RHR）, and analyze the association with blood pressure and cold-inducible RNA binding protein （CIRP） mRNA expression in brain tissue. DESIGN： A completely randomized grouping design, a randomized control animal trial. SETTINGS： Lab of Neurology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University; Department of Chemistry, Open laboratory of Chemical Biology, Institute of Molecular Technology for Drug Discovery and Synthesis, University of Hong Kong. MATERIALS： Male SD rats （n=460）, weighing 80 - 100 g were obtained from Guangdong Province Health Animal Unit. A modified RXZ-300A intelligent artificial climate cabinet （Ningbo Jiangnan Instrument Co. ,Ltd., China）. METHODS： The experiment were processed in the Lab of Neurology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and the Open Laboratory of Chemical Biology, Institute of Molecular Technology for Drug Discovery and Synthesis, University of Hong Kong from October 2004 to November 2005. Rats （n = 400） were operated to establish 2-kidney 2-clip RHR model as described previously. The sham-operated rats （n =60） served as normotensive controls. Eight weeks later, 300 of RHR were randomly selected according to their systolic blood pressure （SBP） and divided into 3 sub-groups （n =100 per group）： mild hypertensive group （SBP of 160 - 200 mm Hg）, moderate hypertensive group （SBP of 200 - 220 mm Hg） and severe hypertensive group （SBP 〉 220 mm Hg）. Each group was further divided into two groups （n =50） under ACE and non-ACE.
