Versatile sensing devices for self-driven designated therapy based on robust breathable composite films

Flexible wearable electronics were developed for applications such as electronic skins,human-machine interactions,healthcare monitoring,and anti-infection *** conventional materials showed impermeability,single sensing ability,and no designated therapy,which hindered their *** it was still a great challenge to develop electronic devices with multifunctional sensing properties and self-driven anti-infection ***,flexible and breathable on-skin electronic devices for multifunctional fabric based sensing and self-driven designated anti-infection therapy were prepared successfully with cellulose nanocrystals/iron(Ⅲ)ion/polyvinyl alcohol(CNC/Fe^(3+)/PVA)*** resultant composite films possessed robust mechanical performances,outstanding conductivity,and distinguished breathability(3.03 kg/(m^(2)·d)),which benefited from the multiple interactions of weak hydrogen bonds and Fe^(3+) chelation and synergistic effects among CNC,polyaniline(PANI),and ***,the film could be assembled as a multifunctional sensor to actively monitor real-time physical and infection related signals such as temperature,moisture,pH,NH3,and human movements even at sweat *** importantly,this multifunctional device could act as a self-driven therapist to eliminate bacterial by the release of Fe^(3+),which was driven by the damage of metal coordination Fe-O bonds due to the high temperature caused by infection at wound ***,the composite films had potential versatile applications in electronic skins,smart wound dressings,human-machine interactions,and self-driven anti-infection therapy.

Green Roof Performance for Stormwater Management in Equatorial Urban Areas Using Storm Water Management Model (SWMM)

Many Low Impact Developments (LIDs) have recently been developed as a sustainable integrated strategy for managing the quantity and quality of stormwater and surrounding amenities. Previous research showed that green roof is one of the most promising LIDs for slowing down rainwater, controlling rainwater volume, and enhancing rainwater quality by filtering and leaching contaminants from the substrate. However, there is no guideline for green roof design in Malaysia. Hence, Investigating the viability of using green roofs to manage stormwater and address flash flood hazards is urgently necessary. This study used the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) to evaluate the effectiveness of green roof in managing stormwater and improving rainwater quality. The selected study area is the multistory car park (MSCP) rooftop at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. Nine green roof models with different configurations were created. Results revealed that the optimum design of a green roof is 100 mm of berm height, 150 mm of soil thickness, and 50 mm of drainage mat thickness. With the ability to reduce runoff generation by 26.73%, reduce TSS by 89.75%, TP by 93.07%, TN by 93.16%, and improved BOD by 81.33%. However, pH values dropped as low as 5.933 and became more acidic due to the substrates in green roof. These findings demonstrated that green roofs improve water quality, able to temporarily store excess rainfall and it is very promising and sustainable tool in managing stormwater.

Effectiveness of Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant in Removing Emerging Contaminants: A Case Study at Kuching, Malaysia

Before the construction of the Kuching Centralized Wastewater Treatment System Package 1 (KCWTSP1), partially treated blackwater and greywater were discharged directly into natural waterways. The accumulated wastewater had polluted Sarawak river, which is regulated and cannot discharge freely into the South china Sea. The polluted Sarawak river has endangered human health, river water quality, and aquatic ecosystems. Hence, the KCWTSP1 commissioned in 2015 serves the purpose of removing pollutants from wastewater before it is discharged into natural waterways. However, the effectiveness of KCWTPP1 is unknown. This paper is aimed to discuss and review the effectiveness of KCWTPP1 in treating wastewater since its inception in 2015. From 2017 to 2020, KCWTPP1 has treated an average of 4,200,000 m3 of wastewater per year. Generally, most of the discharge effluent met Environmental Quality Act (1974) Standard A criteria, except for the oil and grease parameter. Initially, the plant could not treat suspended solids and total phosphorus, but this was greatly improved in subsequent years. Therefore, some improvements are required to treat oil and grease parameters effectively and efficiently to ensure that only Standard A effluent is discharged into the Sarawak River in the future.

BACKGROUND We report a case of lorazepam-induced agitated delirium treated with haloperidol,which in turn triggered the onset of neuroleptic malignant syndrome(NMS).The latter condition,a medical emergency,was effectively treated with medical treatment and dexmedetomidine,a versatile and highly selective shortacting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist with sedative-hypnotic and anxiolytic *** SUMMARY A 65-year-old man with a history of bipolar disorder presented to the emergency department with severe abdominal discomfort after binge *** his hospital stay,he received intravenous lorazepam for *** the next day,he became delirious and was thus treated with seven doses(5 mg each)of haloperidol over a 48 h *** of NMS(hyperthermia,rigidity,myoclonus of upper limbs,impaired consciousness,tachypnea,and dark urine)became apparent and haloperidol was immediately suspended and brisk diuresis was *** intensive care unit admission,he was confused,disoriented,and markedly *** infusion was started with the goal of achieving a Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale score of-1 or *** was resolved gradually and the patient stabilized,permitting discontinuation of dexmedetomidine after 3 *** Dexmedetomidine may be clinically helpful for the management of NMS,most likely because of its sympatholytic activity.

AIM: To investigate the effect of glutamine (Gln)-containing parenteral nutrition on phagocytic activity and to elucidate the possible roles of Gin in the secretion of anabolic hormones and nitrogen balance in rats undergoing a ***: Rats with an internal jugular catheter were divided into 2 experimental groups and received total parenteral nutrition (TPN). The TPN solutions were isonitrogenous and identical in nutrient compositions except for differences in amino acid content. One group received conventional TPN (control), and in the other group, 25%of the total amino acid nitrogen was replaced with *** receiving TPN for 3 d, one-third of the rats in each experimental group were sacrificed as the baseline *** remaining rats underwent a partial gastrectomy and were killed 1 and 3 d, respectively, after surgery. Plasma,peritoneal lavage fluid (PLF), and urine samples were collected for further ***: The Gin group had fewer nitrogen losses 1 and 2 d after surgery (d1, 16.6±242.5 vs -233.4±205.9 mg/d,d2, 31.8±238.8 vs-253.4±184.6 mg/d, P＜0.05). There were no differences in plasma growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 levels between the 2 groups before or after surgery. The phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages was higher in the Gin group than in the control group 1 d after surgery (4 1185±931 vs 323±201,P＜0.05). There were no differences in the phagocytic activities of blood polymorphonuclear neutrophils between the 2 groups at the baseline or on the postoperative *** significant differences in interleukin-1β or interleukin-6concentrations in PLF were observed between the 2 ***, tumor necrosis factor-α level in PLF was significantly lower in the Gin group than in the control group on postoperative d ***: TPN supplemented with Gin can improve the nitrogen balance, and enhance macrophage phagocytic activity at the site of injury.
