On the Variability and Correlation of Surface Ozone and Carbon Monoxide Observed in Hong Kong Using Trajectory and Regression Analyses

This paper investigates, the variability and correlation of surface ozone (Os) and carbon monoxide (CO) observed at Cape D'Aguilar in Hong Kong from 1 January 1994 to 31 December 1995. Statistical analysis shows that the average O3 and CO mixing ratios during the two years are 32±17ppbv and 305±191 ppbv, respectively. The O3/CO ratio ranges from 0.05 to 0.6 ppbv/ppbv with its frequency peaking at 0.15. The raw dataset is divided into six groups using backward trajectory and cluster analyses. For data assigned to the same trajectory type, three groups are further sorted out based on CO and NOX mixing ratios. The correlation coefficients and slopes of O3/CO for the 18 groups are calculated using linear regression analysis. Finally, five kinds of air masses with different chemical features are identified: continental background (CB), marine background (MB), regional polluted continental (RPC), perturbed marine (P*M), and local polluted (LP) air masses. Further studies indicate that O3 and CO in the continental and marine background air masses (CB and MB) are positively correlated for the reason that they are well mixed over the long range transport before arriving at the site. The negative correlation between O3 and CO in air mass LP is believed to be associated with heavy anthropogenic influence, which results from the enhancement by local sources as indicated by high CO and NOx and depletion of O3 when mixed with fresh emissions. The positive correlation in the perturbed marine air mass P*M favors the low photochemical production of O3. The negative correlation found in the regional polluted continental air mass RPC is different from the observations at Oki Island in Japan due to the more complex O3 chemistry at Cape D'Aguilar.

影响任何一个地下废物处置场所长期行为的一个重要因素是进入地下废物贮置洞室内的渗流量的大小.预测地下洞室中的渗流量是困难的,特别是当地下废物贮置洞室位于非均质非饱和带中.三维数值模型用于研究地下非均质中非饱和流动及流入地下洞室中的渗流量.讨论了非均质模型与均质模型的比较以及数值剖分尺度对计算结果的影响.进入洞室中的渗漏率随着引入系统中入渗量的增加而增大.选用4个参数来衡量渗流场的非均质程度:(1)介质的平均渗透率K0;(2)VanGenuchten参数α;(3)渗透率空间分布相关尺度;(4)渗透率空间分布变化的标准差σ.根据一个随机实现的渗透率分布,通过改变平均渗透率来研究其对流入洞室中渗透量的影响.对一个固定的入渗率而言,流入洞室中的渗漏率将随着VanGenuchten参数α的减小而减小.模拟结果表明流入洞室的渗漏率与介质的平均渗透率相关,即随平均渗透率的增大,流入洞室的渗漏率亦增大.流入洞室的渗漏率还高度依赖于非均质渗透率场的空间分布相关长度与标准差.一个大的相关长度或高的标准差均能导致流入洞室的渗漏率增大.

The past decade witnessed rapid development of constraint satisfaction technologies, where algorithms are now able to cope with larger and harder problems. However, owing to the fact that constraints are inherently declarative, attention is quickly turning toward developing high-level programming languages within which such problems can be modeled and also solved. Along these lines, this paper presents DEPICT, the language. Its use is illustrated through modeling a number of benchmark examples. The paper continues with a description of a prototype system within which such models may be interpreted. The paper concludes with a description of a sample run of this interpreter showing how a problem modeled as such is typically solved.

Objective:Although the protective effects of Momordica charantia L.(MC)extract on chemical-induced testicular damage have been studied,the preventive effects of MC extract on functional proteins in the epididymis under chronic stress have never been *** study investigated the protective effects of MC fruit extract on protein secretion,especially tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins,in the epididymis of rats exposed to chronic unpredictable stress(CUS).Methods:Total phenolic compounds(TPC),total flavonoid compounds(TFC)and antioxidant capacities of MC extract were *** male rats were divided into 4 groups:control group,CUS group,and 2groups of CUS that received different doses of MC extract(40 or 80 mg/kg).In treated groups,rats were given MC daily,followed by induction of CUS(1 stressor was randomly applied from a battery of 9 potential stressors)for 60 consecutive *** corticosterone and testosterone levels were analyzed after the end of *** of heat-shock protein 70(HSP-70)and tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins present in the fluid of the head and tail of the epididymis were quantified using Western ***:MC extract contained TPC of(19.005±0.270)mg gallic acid equivalents and TFC of(0.306±0.012)mg catechin equivalents per gram,and had 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl antioxidant capacity of(4.985±0.086)mg trolox equivalents per gram,radical 50%inhibitory concentration of(2.011±0.008)mg/mL and ferric reducing antioxidant power of(23.697±0.819)μmol Fe(Ⅱ)per *** level in the epididymis was significantly increased,while the corticosterone level was significantly improved in groups treated with MC extract,compared to the CUS ***,an 80 mg/kg dose of MC extract prevented the impairments of HSP-70 and tyrosine-phosphorylated protein expressions in the luminal fluid of the epididymis of CUS ***:MC fruit extract had antioxidant activities and improved the functional proteins secreted from

Brain delivering RNA-based therapeutic strategies by targeting mTOR pathway for axon regeneration after central nervous system injury

Injuries to the central nervous system(CNS)such as stroke,brain,and spinal cord trauma often result in permanent disabilities because adult CNS neurons only exhibit limited axon *** brain has a surprising intrinsic capability of recovering itself after ***,the hostile extrinsic microenvironment significantly hinders axon *** advances have indicated that the inactivation of intrinsic regenerative pathways plays a pivotal role in the failure of most adult CNS neuronal ***,substantial evidence has convincingly demonstrated that the mechanistic target of rapamycin(mTOR)signaling is one of the most crucial intrinsic regenerative pathways that drive axonal regeneration and sprouting in various CNS *** this review,we will discuss the recent findings and highlight the critical roles of mTOR pathway in axon regeneration in different types of CNS ***,we will demonstrate that the reactivation of this regenerative pathway can be achieved by blocking the key mTOR signaling components such as phosphatase and tensin homolog(PTEN).Given that multiple mTOR signaling components are endogenous inhibitory factors of this pathway,we will discuss the promising potential of RNA-based therapeutics which are particularly suitable for this purpose,and the fact that they have attracted substantial attention recently after the success of coronavirus disease 2019 *** specifically tackle the blood-brain barrier issue,we will review the current technology to deliver these RNA therapeutics into the brain with a focus on nanoparticle *** will propose the clinical application of these RNA-mediated therapies in combination with the brain-targeted drug delivery approach against mTOR signaling components as an effective and feasible therapeutic strategy aiming to enhance axonal regeneration for functional recovery after CNS injury.

Silicon photonics has attracted much attention because of the advantages of CMOS （complementary- metal-oxide-semiconductor） compatibility, ultra-high integrated density, etc. Great progress has been achieved in the past decades. However, it is still not easy to realize active silicon photonic devices and circuits by utilizing the material system of pure silicon due to the limitation of the intrinsic properties of silicon. Graphene has been re- garded as a promising material for optoelectronics due to its unique properties and thus provides a potential option for realizing active photonic integrated devices on silicon. In this paper, we present a review on recent progress of some silicon-graphene photonic devices for photodetection, all-optical modulation, as well as thermal-tuning.

Protein C deficiency related obscure gastrointestinal bleeding treated by enteroscopy and anticoagulant therapy

Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding is an uncommonly encountered and difficult-to-treat clinical problem in gastroenterology,but advancements in endoscopic and radiologic imaging modalities allow for greater accuracyin diagnosing obscure gastrointestinal *** varices account for less than 5% of all variceal bleeding cases,and jejunal variceal bleeding due to extrahepatic portal hypertension is *** present a 47-year-old man suffering from obscure gastrointestinal *** tomography of the abdomen revealed multiple vascular tufts around the proximal jejunum but no evidence of cirrhosis,and a visible hypodense filling defect suggestive of thrombus was visible in the superior mesenteric *** revealed several serpiginous varices in the proximal *** data disclosed protein C deficiency(33.6%).The patient was successfully treated by therapeutic balloonassisted enteroscopy and long-term anticoagulant therapy,which is normally contraindicated in patients with gastrointestinal *** modalities for obscure gastrointestinal bleeding,such as capsule endoscopy,computed tomography enterography,magnetic resonance enterography,and enteroscopy,were also reviewed in this article.

Multiscale structures of Zr-based binary metallic glasses and the correlation with glass forming ability

Thermal behaviors and structures of three Zr-based binary glass formers, Zr;Cu;, Zr;Cu;and Zr;Ni;, were investigated and compared using differential scanning calorimetry（DSC）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, high energy X-ray diffraction（XRD） and small angle X-ray scattering（SAXS）. The high energy XRD results show that the bulk glass former Zr;Cu;has a denser atomic packing efficiency and reduced mediumrange order than those of marginal glass formers Zr;Cu;and Zr;Ni;. Based on TEM observations for the samples after heat treatment at 10 K above their crystallization onset temperatures, the number density of crystals for Zr;Cu;was estimated to be 10;-10;m;, which was four-orders higher than that in Zr;Cu;and Zr;Ni;metallic glasses. SAXS results indicate that Zr;Cu;has higher degree of nanoscale inhomogeneities than those in Zr;Cu;and Zr;Ni;at as-cast state. The observed multiscale structures are discussed in terms of the phase stability and glass-forming ability of Zr-based binary glass formers.
