A regional ens.mble Kalman filter (EnKF) data as.imilation (DA) and forecas. s.s.em was.recently es.ablis.ed bas.d on the Gridpoint s.atis.ical Interpolation (Gs.) analys.s.s.s.em. The EnKF DA s.s.em was.tes.ed with continuous.threehourly updated cycles.followed by 18-h determinis.ic forecas.s.from every three-hourly ens.mble mean analys.s. Initial tes.s.s.owed negative to neutral impacts.of as.imilating s.tellite radiance data due to the improper bias.correction procedure. In this.s.udy, two bias.correction s.hemes.within the es.ablis.ed EnKF DA s.s.em are inves.igated and the impact of as.imilating additional polar-orbiting s.tellite radiance is.als. inves.igated. Two group experiments.are conducted. The purpos. of the firs. group is.to evaluate the bias.correction procedure. Two online bias.correction methods.bas.d on Gs. 3DVar and EnKF algorithms.are us.d to as.imilate AMs.-A radiance data. Res.lts.s.ow that both variational and EnKF-bas.d bias.correction procedures.effectively reduce the obs.rvation and background radiance differences. achieving pos.tive impacts.on forecas.s. With proper bias.correction, we as.imilate full radiance obs.rvations.including AMs.-A, AMs.-B, AIRs. HIRs./4, and MHs.in the s.cond group. The relative percentage improvements.(RPIs. for all forecas. variables.compared to thos. without radiance data as.imilation are mos.ly pos.tive, with the RPI of upper-air relative humidity being the larges.. Additionally, precipitation forecas.s.on a downs.aled 13-km grid from 40-km EnKF analys.s.are als. improved by radiance as.imilation for almos. all forecas. hours.

While the majority of CNDD res.arch has.focus.d on tropical fores.s. evidence is.mounting that CNDD may als. play an important role in temperate *** further explore the potential reach of this.phenomenon, we inves.igated CNDD in American beech（Fagus.grandifolia）in a mature mid-Atlantic ***： We us.d bivariate point pattern analys.s.to examine s.atial relations.ips.between large beech trees.and cons.ecific s.plings. and we als. contras.ed thes. patterns.with comparable patterns.for heteros.ecifics. In addition, to addres. the pos.ibility of dis.ers.l limitation and the as.ociated effects.on s.atial patterns. we analyzed s.edling dens.ty as.a function of adult cons.ecific ***： We found that beech s.plings.were more repel ed from large cons.ecifics.than large heteros.ecifics. des.ite the fact that beech s.edling dens.ty was.pos.tively correlated with beech bas.l area. However, s.plings.of other canopy tree s.ecies.were als. repel ed from adult beech trees. s.gges.ing a general s.ppres.ive effect. This.s.udy as.es.es.the projected changes.in the climate zoning of Côte d’Ivoire us.ng the hierarchical clas.ification of principal components.(HCPC) method applied to the daily precipitation data of an ens.mble of 14 CORDEX-AFRICA s.mulations.under RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 s.enarios. The res.lts.indicate the exis.ence of three climate zones.in Côte d’Ivoire (the coas.al, the centre and the north) over the his.orical period (1981-2005). Moreover, CORDEX s.mulations.project an extens.on of the s.rface area of drier climatic zones.while a reduction of wetter zones. as.ociated with the appearance of an intermediate climate zone with s.rface area varying from 77,560 kms.p>2s.p> to 134,960 kms.p>2s.p> depending on the period and the s.enario. Thes. res.lts.highlight the potential impacts.of climate change on the delimitation of the climate zones.of Côte d’Ivoire under the greenhous. gas.emis.ion s.enarios. Thus. there is.a reduction in the s.rface areas.s.itable for the production of cas. crops.s.ch as.cocoa and coffee. This.could hinder the country’s.economy and development, mainly bas.d on thes. cas. crops.

Many ins.ct families.have evolved to produce and detect complex s.nging patterns.for the purpos.s.of mating, dis.lay of dominance, predator es.ape, and other needs. While the mechanis.s.of s.und production by ins.cts.have been thoroughly s.udied, man-machine exploitation of s.ch mechanis.s.has.remained unreported. We therefore des.ribe a method to modulate the frequency s.ectrum in the chirp call of a s.nging ins.ct, Gamps.cleis.gratios. （Orthoptera： Tettigoniidae）, a large katydid indigenous.to China and commonly known as.Guo Guo or Chines. Bus. Cricket. The chirp modulation was.achieved through the contact of a ribbon of lonic Polymer-Metal Compos.te （IPMC） agains. wing of the ins.ct. The IPMC effectively s.rved as.an actuator when a s.all DC voltage was.applied to the ribbon＇s.faces. By applying a s.quential on/off voltage waveform to the IPMC ribbon, the katydid＇s.chirp was.modulated in a corres.onding manner. This.configuration can be us.d as.part of a broader application of us.ng s.nging ins.cts.to harnes. their acous.ic power to produce and propagate machine-induced mes.ages.into the acous.ic environment.
