Functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. fMWNTs. were prepared with chitos.n via controlled s.rface depos.tion and cros.linking proces. and s.anning electron micros.opy( s.M),Fourier trans.ation infrared s.ectros.opy( FT-IR) and Xray diffraction( XRD) are us.d to character properties. A novel high-dens.ty chitos.n( HCs. was.dis.olved in f-MWNTs.dis.ers.d dilute acetic acid with a maximal concentration of 5. 8%. The hollow fibers.can be made by extruding the s.lution into a dilute alkali s.lution through a wet-s.inning proces. and the tens.le properties.of the materials.were evaluated by univers.l tes.er. The s.rface property of fibers.pretreated by Helium( He) and the following grafted with gelatin was.evaluated with X-ray photoelectron s.ectros.opy( XPs..As.the hollow fibers.were intended for neural tis.ue engineering,its.s.itability was.evaluated in vitro us.ng rat s.hwann cells. Rs.96) as.model cells. The cells.attachment,proliferation and morphology,were s.udied by various.micros.opic techniques. Bas.d on the res.lts.the gelatin grafted HCs./ f-MWNTs.hollow fibers.could be us.d as.a potential cell carrier in neural tis.ue engineering.
