A machine learning model for colorectal liver metastasis post-hepatectomy prognostications

Background:Currently,surgical resection is the mainstay for colorectal liver metastases(CRLM)management and the only potentially curative treatment *** tools can support patient selection for surgical resection to maximize therapeutic *** study aimed to develop a survival prediction model using machine learning based on a multicenter patient sample in hong ***:Patients who underwent hepatectomy for CRLM between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2018 in four hospitals in hong Kong were included in the *** analysis was performed using Cox proportional hazards(CPH).A stepwise selection on Cox multivariable models with Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator(LASSO)regression was applied to a multiply-imputed dataset to build a prediction *** model was validated in the validation set,and its performance was compared with that of Fong Clinical Risk Score(CRS)using concordance ***:A total of 572 patients were included with a median follow-up of 3.6 *** full models for overall survival(OS)and recurrence-free survival(RFS)consist of the same 8 established and novel variables,namely colorectal cancer nodal stage,CRLM neoadjuvant treatment,Charlson Comorbidity Score,pre-hepatectomy bilirubin and carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)levels,CRLM largest tumor diameter,extrahepatic metastasis detected on positron emission-tomography(PET)-scan as well as KRAS *** CRLM Machine-learning Algorithm Prognostication model(CMAP)demonstrated better ability to predict OS(C-index=0.651),compared with the Fong CRS for 1-year(C-index=0.571)and 5-year OS(C-index=0.574).It also achieved a C-index of 0.651 for ***:We present a promising machine learning algorithm to individualize prognostications for patients following resection of CRLM with good discriminative ability.

To generate dance that temporally and aesthetically matches the music is a challenging problem in three ***,the generated motion should be beats-aligned to the local musical ***,the global aesthetic style should be matched between motion and *** third,the generated motion should be diverse and *** address these challenges,we propose ReChoreoNet,which re-choreographs high-quality dance motion for a given piece of music.A data-driven learning strategy is proposed to efficiently correlate the temporal connections between music and motion in a progressively learned cross-modality embedding *** beats-aligned content motion will be subsequently used as autoregressive context and control signal to control a normalizing-flow model,which transfers the style of a prototype motion to the final generated *** addition,we present an aesthetically labelled music-dance repertoire(MDR)for both efficient learning of the cross-modality embedding,and understanding of the aesthetic connections between music and *** demonstrate that our repertoire-based framework is robustly extensible in both content and *** quantitative and qualitative experiments have been carried out to validate the efficiency of our proposed model.

To the Editor : Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC) Stage C hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) with vascular invasion has been considered unresectable. however, the curative rate from systemic treatment is rather dismal. Even with the use of immunotherapy, complete remission is less than 10% [ 1 ]. On the contrary, recent advances in transplant oncology, especially in the application of liver transplant-related surgical techniques in complex liver resections, make the operation possible for patients with locally advanced HCC who were previously considered to be unresectable [ 2 ]. We hereby present the surgical management of a patient with giant HCC in right liver lobe with inferior vena cava(IVC) invasion.

Prostate health index can stratify patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions on magnetic resonance imaging to reduce prostate biopsies

We aim to evaluate prostate health index as an additional risk-stratification tool in patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions on multiparametric magnetic resonance *** with biochemical or clinical suspicion of having prostate cancer who underwent multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging in two tertiary centers(Queen Mary hospital and Princess Margaret hospital,hong Kong,China)between January 2017 and June 2022 were ***-magnetic resonance imaging fusion biopsies were performed after prostate health index *** who only had Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions were further stratified into four prostate health index risk groups and the cancer detection rates were *** of the 747 patients,47.3%had Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions *** detection rate of clinically significant prostate cancer in this group was 15.0%.The cancer detection rates of clinically significant prostate cancer had statistically significant differences:5.3%in prostate health index<25.0,7.4%in prostate health index 25.0-34.9,17.9%in prostate health index 35.0-54.9,and 52.6%in prostate health index≥55.0(P<0.01).Among the patients,26.9%could have avoided a biopsy with a prostate health index<25.0,at the expense of a 5.3%risk of missing clinically significant prostate *** health index could be used as an additional risk stratification tool for patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 *** could be avoided in patients with low prostate health index,with a small risk of missing clinically significant prostate cancer.

Magnetic field-assisted batch polishing method for the mass production of precision optical glass components

The demand for optical glass has been rapidly increasing in various industries,where an ultra-smooth surface and form accuracy are critical for the functional elements of the *** meet the high surface-quality requirements,a polishing process is usually adopted to finish the optical glass surface to ensure an ultra-smooth surface and eliminate sub-surface ***,current ultra-precision polishing processes normally polish workpieces individually,leading to a low production efficiency and high polishing *** mass-finishing methods cannot be used for optical ***,magnetic-field-assisted batch polishing(MABP)was proposed in this study to overcome this research gap and provide an efficient and cost-effective method for industrial use.A series of polishing experiments were conducted on typical optical components under different polishing parameters to evaluate the polishing performance of MABP on optical *** results demonstrated that MABP is an efficient method to simultaneously polish multiple lenses while achieving a surface roughness,indicated by the arithmetic mean height(Sa),of 0.7 nm and maintained a sub-micrometer surface form for all the *** addition,no apparent sub-surface damage was observed,indicating the significant potential for the high-quality rapid polishing of optical *** proposed method is highly competitive compared to the current optical polishing methods,which has the potential to revolutionize the polishing process for small optics.

Effects of Serum Concentration, Synchronization Time and Confluence on the Cell-Cycle Synchronization Efficiency of Goat Fibroblasts

This study aims to evaluate the effect of serum concentration, synchronization time, and confluence degree on the synchronisation efficiency of goat fibroblast cycle. The results indicated that there was no difference in the percentage of nucleated fibroblasts in the G0/G1 stage between serum concentrations of 0.3% and 0.4% (83.89% and 82.69%, respectively, P > 0.05) as well as between serum concentrations of 0.2% and 0.5% (76.95% and 75.46%, respectively, P > 0.05). The percentage of nucleated fibroblasts in the G0/G1 stage was highest at the concentration of 0.3% and lowest in the control group (83.89% vs. 62.67%, P 0.05). The beneficial effect of high confluence was confirmed by the large percentage of nucleated fibroblasts at the G0/G1 stage. The 60% confluency was significantly lower than the 80% and 100% confluency (73.44%, 86.63%, and 87.17%, respectively, P hours of synchronization and 100% confluency.

Retinoic acid alleviates rotavirus-induced intestinal damage by regulating redox homeostasis and autophagic flux in piglets

Rotaviruses(RV) are a major cause of severe gastroenteritis, particularly in neonatal piglets. Despite the availability of effective vaccines, the development of antiviral therapies for RV remains an ongoing challenge. Retinoic acid(RA), a metabolite of vitamin A, has been shown to have anti-oxidative and antiviral properties. however, the mechanism by which RA exerts its intestinal-protective and antiviral effects on RV infection is not fully understood. The study investigates the effects of RA supplementation in Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire(DLY) piglets challenged with RV. Thirty-six DLY piglets were assigned into six treatments, including a control group, RA treatment group with two concentration gradients(5and 15 mg/d), RV treatment group, and RV treatment group with the addition of different concentration gradients of RA(5 and 15 mg/d). Our study revealed that RV infection led to extensive intestinal architecture damage, which was mitigated by RA treatment at lower concentrations by increasing the villus height and villus height/crypt depth ratio(P ho-1 protein expression(P homeostasis after RV challenge. Additionally,the research demonstrated that RA exerts a dual impact on the regulation of autophagy, both stimulating the initiation of autophagy and hindering the flow of autophagic flux. Through the modulation of autophagic flux, RA influence the progression of RV infection. These findings provide new insights into the regulation of redox hemostasis and autophagy by RA and its potential therapeutic application in RV infection.
