Craniofacial therapy:advanced local therapies from nano-engineered titanium implants to treat craniofacial conditions

Nano-engineering-based tissue regeneration and local therapeutic delivery strategies show significant potential to reduce the health and economic burden associated with craniofacial defects,including traumas and tumours.Critical to the success of such nano-engineered non-resorbable craniofacial implants include load-bearing functioning and survival in complex local trauma conditions.Further,race to invade between multiple cells and pathogens is an important criterion that dictates the fate of the implant.In this pioneering review,we compare the therapeutic efficacy of nano-engineered titanium-based craniofacial implants towards maximised local therapy addressing bone formation/resorption,soft-tissue integration,bacterial infection and cancers/tumours.We present the various strategies to engineer titanium-based craniofacial implants in the macro-,micro-and nano-scales,using topographical,chemical,electrochemical,biological and therapeutic modifications.A particular focus is electrochemically anodised titanium implants with controlled nanotopographies that enable tailored and enhanced bioactivity and local therapeutic release.Next,we review the clinical translation challenges associated with such implants.This review will inform the readers of the latest developments and challenges related to therapeutic nano-engineered craniofacial implants.

Stochastic transient analysis of thermal stresses in solids by explicit time-domain method

Stochastic heat conduction and thermal stress analysis of structures has received considerable attention in recent years.The propagation of uncertain thermal environments will lead to stochastic variations in temperature fields and thermal stresses.Therefore,it is reasonable to consider the variability of thermal environments while conducting thermal analysis.However,for ambient thermal excitations,only stationary random processes have been investigated thus far.In this study,the highly efficient explicit time-domain method(ETDM)is proposed for the analysis of non-stationary stochastic transient heat conduction and thermal stress problems.The explicit time-domain expressions of thermal responses are first constructed for a thermoelastic body.Then the statistical moments of thermal displacements and stresses can be directly obtained based on the explicit expressions of thermal responses.A numerical example involving non-stationary stochastic internal heat generation rate is investigated.The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method are validated by comparison with the Monte-Carlo simulation.

我国《建筑抗震设计规范》(GB 50011-2010)推荐采用考虑附加阻尼比和附加刚度的振型分解反应谱法进行建筑减震结构地震作用效应分析。但附加阻尼比和附加刚度的确定存在近似性,亟待发展高效准确的减震结构分析方法。以减震结构为研究对象,建立了减震结构地震响应的时域显式表达式,实现了非线性减震装置恢复力(阻尼力)的快速迭代计算。结合蒙特卡罗模拟,通过地震响应平均峰值的计算获得了统计上准确的结构层间剪力,并将其与规范反应谱法得到的层间剪力进行对比,进而获得了各楼层的层间剪力校准系数,采用该校准系数对规范反应谱法计算得到的各楼层构件内力进行了调整。最后,针对三个建筑减震结构,分别采用层间剪力校准系数法和规范反应谱法进行地震响应分析,验证了层间剪力校准系数法在减震结构地震作用效应计算方面的高效性和准确性。

木糖醇对黏性放线菌生长及产酸影响的体外研究

目的对比不同质量浓度下木糖醇对黏性放线菌生长及产酸的影响。方法分别用含不同质量浓度(128、64、32、16、8、4 g·L-1)木糖醇的脑心浸液(BHI)液体培养基在厌氧条件下培养黏性放线菌,测定其最小抑菌质量浓度(MIC);然后测量对照组以及1/2、1/4、1/8 MIC和MIC质量浓度时培养1.5、3、6、12、24、48 h液体培养基的pH值,计算ΔpH值,同时测量2、4、6、8、10、12 h液体培养基的光密度(OD550)值;最后测定抑制50%及90%黏性放线菌生物膜形成的最低木糖醇质量浓度(即MBIC50和MBIC90)。运用SPSS 19.0进行数据分析。结果木糖醇能抑制黏性放线菌的生长,MIC为64 g·L-1。培养12 h后,各组之间的ΔpH值差异均有统计学意义(P0.05),OD550值随MIC质量浓度的增加而减小。提示黏性放线菌在含1/2 MIC及MIC的木糖醇培养基里生长及产酸能力随木糖醇质量浓度的升高而下降。木糖醇的MIBC50为64 g·L-1,MIBC90为128 g·L-1,说明木糖醇培养基能抑制黏性放线菌生物膜的形成。结论木糖醇能有效地抑制黏性放线菌的生长、黏附以及产酸,有一定的抑制致龋菌和防治龋病的效果。

During marine missions,AUVs are susceptible to external disturbances,such as obstacles,ocean currents,etc.,which can easily cause mission failure or disconnection.In this paper,considering the strong nonlinearities,external disturbances and obstacles,the kinematic and dynamic model of bioinspired Spherical Underwater Robot(SUR)was described.Subsequently,the waypoints-based trajectory tracking with obstacles and uncertainties was proposed for SUR to guarantee its safety and stability.Next,the Lyapunov theory was adopted to verify the stability and the Slide Mode Control(SMC)method is used to verify the robustness of the control system.In addition,a series of simulations were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed control strategy.Some tests,including path-following,static and moving obstacle avoidance were performed which verified the feasibility,robustness and effectiveness of the designed control scheme.Finally,a series of experiments in real environment were performed to verify the performance of the control strategy.The simulation and experimental results of the study supplied clues to the improvement of the path following capability and multi-obstacle avoidance of AUVs.

Ultralow friction of ion-containing water nanodroplets

We reveal the ultralow friction or superlubricity of water nanodroplets containing cations and anions on graphene substrates at high ion concentration by molecular dynamics simulations.When the ion concentration is higher than 7 wt.%and the nanodroplet diameter is larger than 10 nm,the friction coefficients of water nanodroplets are lower than 10−2,and can decrease to the order of 10−3 with increasing the ion concentration further.At a certain ion concentration,the optimal nanodroplet diameter of 17–20 nm exists at which the friction coefficient is the lowest.The ultralow friction behaviors of water nanodroplets containing cations and anions are mainly attributed to the opposite variation trends between the interfacial adhesion energy and surface energy of water nanodroplet with ion concentration,and the interfacial hydrophobicity sustained by high ion concentration.These results unveil the essential role of ions in achieving the superlubricity of water nanodroplets.

Fairness analysis of extra-gain guilty of a non-repudiation protocol

Many traditional applications can be refined thanks to the development of blockchain technology. One of these services is non-repudiation, in which participants in a communication process cannot deny their involvement.Due to the vulnerabilities of the non-repudiation protocols, one of the parties involved in the communication can often avoid non-repudiation rules and obtain the expected information to the detriment of the interests of the other party, resulting in adverse effects. This paper studies the fairness guarantee quantitatively through probabilistic model checking. E-fairness is measured by modeling the protocol in probabilistic timed automata and verifying the appropriate property specified in the probabilistic computation tree logic. Furthermore, our analysis proposes insight for choosing suitable values for different parameters associated with the protocol so that a certain degree of fairness can be obtained. Therefore, the reverse question—for a certain degree of fairness ε, how can the protocol parameters be specified to ensure fairness—is answered.

Electro-lubrication in Janus transition metal dichalcogenide bilayers

Lubrication induced by a vertical electric field or bias voltage is typically not applicable to twodimensional(2D)van der Waals(vdW)crystals.By performing extensive first-principles calculations,we reveal that the interlayer friction and shear resistance of Janus transition metal dichalcogenide(TMD)MoXY(X/Y=S,Se,or Te,and X≠Y)bilayers under a constant normal force mode can be reduced by applying vertical electric fields.The maximum interlayer sliding energy barriers between AA and AB stacking of bilayers MoSTe,MoSeTe,and MoSSe decrease as the positive electric field increases because of the more significant counteracting effect from the electric field energy and the more significant enhancement in interlayer charge transfer in AA stacking.Meanwhile,the presence of negative electric fields decreases the interlayer friction of bilayer MoSTe,because the electronegativity difference between Te and S atoms reduces the interfacial atom charge differences between AA and AB stacking.These results reveal an electro-lubrication mechanism for the heterogeneous interfaces of 2D Janus TMDs.
