Insight of ZnS nanoparticles contribution in different biological uses

Objective:To evaluate the contributions of the some quantum dots in different biological uses in order to valorizes such nanomaterials for further ***:Zinc sulfide ZnS nanoparticles were synthesized in aqueous medium at pH constant,the obtained nanoparticles has been characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and Fourier Transform Infra-red(FTIR) *** sulfide nanoparticles were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal profiling and tested for antioxidant activity using l,l-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),hydroxyl radical(OH·) and hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2) scavenging activity,ferric reducing power(FRP) assay and ferrous ion chelating(FIC)***:The sizes of the crystallites were estimated to 3 nm using the DebyeScherrer formula based on the XRD *** shape was identified to be quasi-spherical whith agglomerated *** obtained ZnS quantum dots present an antioxidant activity especially in oxido-reduction power,and can be used for species profiling either for bacteria and ***:It was found that ZnS nanoparticles showed relatively higher antioxidant activities and antibacterial with an antifungal behavior which proves that this nanomaterials can react at the interface with the life entities.

The Mulching Effect of the Olives Mill Wastewaters on the Soil Cohesion Improvement and Wind Erosion Reduction in the Southern Tunisian Arid Zones

In the Tunisian arid zones, where the soils are sandy and very poor in organic and mineral matters, wind erosion process is very active and triggered the departure of the thinnest elements of the soil and the apparition of dune building. Facing to these situations, many simple and efficient practices for combating desertification had been tested since many years in the Tunisian arid zones. The mulching of the olive mill wastewaters is one of these techniques. Otherwise, an olive mill wastewaters spray experimental device, with these respective doses of 50 m3/ha, 100 m3/ha and 200 m3/ha next to a witness parcel without OMW, has been putted in place since 1995 in the Chammakh-Zarzis, Tunisia. The mulching of the OMW, in the southern Tunisian regions constitutes an interesting alternative for the controlled and rational evacuation of this polluting sewage on the one hand and for the soil cohesion improvement by：（i） the increase of the organic matter rate which raised, in proportion to the dose, from 0.06% to 1.27% after 10 years of OMW mulching, and （ii） the improvement of the soil structural stability or ~＇the mean weight diameter＂ where the aggregation rate superior to 2 mm is increased until 34% with the dose of 200 m3/ha. Therefore, that treatment will bind the sand particles and thereof control of sandstorms is gained. Indeed, the results in wind tunnel tests on the soil treated with these different doses of OMW showed that the threshold friction velocity u,t was raised from 8.5 m/s to 12 m/s for 50 m3/ha and 200 m3/ha, respectively.

Setting up a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for the ROSELT/OSS Network

Environmental monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems are indispensable tools for sustainable land management, especially in dry and fragile ecosystems. The reporting and dissemination of its products and indicators are the key roles to perform their missions. Furthermore, the overall success of such multilateral projects and networks depends on well-organized infrastructures for spatial data management. A spatial data infrastructure (SDI) is an efficient framework to centralize the management of spatial data and information related to multilateral projects for the best sharing and exchange between partners and stakeholders in order to ensure that they are interactively connected to use the data efficiently and in a flexible manner. This paper outlines the work undertaken in partnership between the Geography and GIS Department of the Faculty of Arts, King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia Kingdom, the Geomatics, Earth and Land Settlement Branch of the Department of Geology, Faculty of Sciences of Tunis, Tunis El Manar University, Tunisia, and the Sahara and Sahel Observatory OSS which is an intergovernmental organization, in order to build a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for the ROSELT/OSS program (Long-Term Environmental Monitoring Observatories Network in the Circum-Sahara of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory). This SDI is entirely developed using Open Source technologies and the extensive suite of OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) standards and specifications, to enable interoperability among and between its different components.
