Wettability modification effects on relative permeability end-points:Comparative analysis of surfactant agents for enh.nced oil recovery

Th.s research.examines th. impact of wettability alteration on th. end points of relative permeability,a crucial property of fluids and porous media th.t influences th. displacement processes of immiscible fluids th.ough.such.*** estimation of th. mobility ratio for oil recovery relies on th.se end points,wh.ch.are influenced by connate water saturation and residual oil *** investigate th.s relationsh.p,carbonate rock is generally subjected to wettability alteration using surfactant agents,and core flooding is employed to determine th. relative permeability before and after th. *** wettability of th. rock is commonly assessed th.ough.contact angle *** surfactants,TritonX-100(Tx-100)and Cedar,were tested in reducing th. wettability of th. porous media for *** contact angle measurements revealed th.t Tx-100 was more effective for th.s purpose th.n ***,th. relative permeability tests indicated th.t both.surfactants decreased residual oil saturation,but Tx-100 also improved system *** contrast,Cedar reduced residual oil saturation but increased system pressure,possibly because of its h.gh.*** results also demonstrate th.t injecting Tx-100 leads to a 14%increase in ultimate oil recovery compared with.water injection,wh.le Cedar injection increased th. recovery factor by 5%.Th.s difference may be attributed to th. incomplete coverage of th. pore wall by Cedar or its weaker ch.mical structure th.n ***,in carbonate cores,neith.r non-ionic surfactant enh.nced oil recovery.

Water flooding and pressure maintenance are recommended to improve oil recovery practices after low recovery of petroleum reservoirs occurs during primary *** crystal formation is a frequent occurrence wh.n using th.se *** experimental,numerical,and th.oretical studies h.ve been done on th. mech.nisms underlying scaling and permeability reduction in porous media;h.wever,th.re h.s not been a satisfactory model *** study developed a ph.nomenological model to predict formation damage caused by salt *** with.existing models,wh.ch.provide a scaling tendency,th. proposed model predicts th. profile of scale *** salt precipitation model simulates reactive fluid flow th.ough.porous media.A th.rmodynamic,kinetic,and flow h.drodynamic model was developed and coupled with.th. ion transport equation to describe th. movement of ***,a set of carefully designed dynamic experiments were conducted and th. data were compared with.th. model *** forecasts and experimental data were observed to h.ve an average absolute error(AAE)ranging from 0.68%to 5.94%,wh.ch.indicates th. model's suitability.

Th. Anxiolytic and Antidepressant Effect of Stach.s Lavandulifolia in th. Experimental Pentylenetetrazole-Induced Rat Model of Acute Seizure

Objective:In traditional medicine,Stach.s lavandulifolia or mountain tea h.s been used in th. treatment of arth.itis and rh.umatoid arth.itis.A leaf extract from th.s plant is also th.ugh. to be effective in treating epilepsy as well as oth.r neurological *** assess th. effect of *** extract(SLE),rats were exposed to a stress and anxiety model caused by *** and Meth.ds:A ch.llenge dose of pentylenetetrazole(PTZ)(60 mg/kg)was used to induce seizures in male Wistar rats(200-250 g).Animal treated with.an intraperitoneal injection of eith.r SLE(50 mg/kg)or sodium valproate(100 mg/kg)alone or in combination 30 min before PTZ *** effect of stress and anxiety was assessed using an open field test(OFT),forced swim test(FST),and elevated plus maze(EPM).At th. end of th. experiment,anesth.sia was used to euth.nize rats,and th.ir blood serum was collected for measurements of glutath.one(GSh.,malondialdeh.de(MDA),and GSh.peroxidase(GPx).Results:In contrast to th. control group,th.se treated with.PTZ exh.bited depressive *** 50 mg/kg,SLE provided protection against seizures induced by *** also reduced seizure-induced stress and anxiety,significantly improving FST,EPM,and OFT compared with.th. Th.oretical framework of th. Isfah.ni style: Inspiring sustainable aspects of a vernacular urban development

Th. Isfah.ni style represents a meth.d of traditional Iranian arch.tecture and urban development th.t existed in th. early 20th.century and is regarded as a leading model in most traditional Iranian cities. It exh.bits several vigorous features contributing to its recognition as a traditional approach.to sustainable arch.tecture and urban development. Th.s research.endeavors to reveal a th.oretical framework beneath.th.se inspiring aspects using th. typology of sustainable modern forms, including th. h.erarch., passive design strategies, compactness, density, diversity, mixed land use, pluralism, balance, good composition, and integration over time. To th.s end, th. study employs qualitative research.meth.ds, drawing from traditional samples, to identify innovative, energy and socially efficient, and low-impact strategies implemented in th.s vernacular arch.tecture of Iran's semi-arid and h.t climates. Th. findings revealed th.t th. neigh.orh.od concept as a local and plural community (Mah.lla) was a vital ph.nomenon in Iran's urban development. Apparently, th. demise of th.s paradigm effectively played an important role in th. numerous ch.llenges regarding th. social, energy, and economic viability of modern Iranian cities. h.nce, th.s study presented th.oretical frameworks—aligned with.sustainable concepts—from th. Isfah.ni style th.ough.its analysis, classification, and interpretation, wh.ch.can contribute to modern urban development.

Objective: Th. aim of th. work described h.re was to evaluate th. role of contrast-enh.nced ultrasound (CEUS) in response evaluation for unresectable advanced h.patocellular carcinoma (h.C) treated with.tyrosine kinase inh.bitors (TKIs) plus anti-programmed cell death.protein-1 (PD-1) antibody th.rapy. Meth.ds: A prospective coh.rt of consecutive patients with.h.C wh. received combined TKI/anti-PD-1 antibody treatment for unresectable h.C between January 2022 and October 2022 was included in th.s study. Th. patients underwent unenh.nced ultrasound (US) and CEUS examinations before treatment and at follow-up. Ch.nges in th. largest diameters of th. target tumor on unenh.nced US and th. largest diameters of th. enh.ncing target tumors on CEUS were evaluated. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1 with.unenh.nced US and magnetic resonance imaging/computed tomograph. (MRI/CT) and modified RECIST (mRECIST) with.CEUS and CEMRI/CT were used to assess treatment response. Results: A total of 24 h.C patients (23 men and 1 woman; mean age: 56.5 ± 8.5 y; Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C, 62.5%; 29 intrah.patic target tumors) were studied. Calculations of degree of necrosis in th. target tumors revealed no significant differences between CEUS and CEMRI/CT (44.5 ± 36.2% vs. 45.3 ± 36.8%, p = 0.862). As for th. differentiation of responders from non-responders, th. agreement between RECIST version 1.1 of unenh.nced US and mRECIST-CEUS was poor (κ coefficient = 0.233). Meanwh.le, th.re was a h.gh.degree of concordance between mRECIST-CEUS and mRECIST-CEMRI/CT (κ coefficient = 0.812). Conclusion: CEUS proved to be superior to baseline US and is comparable to CEMRI/CT in defining treatment outcome for combined TKI/anti-PD-1 antibody th.rapy. © 2023 World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology
