Exploring magnetic field treatment into solid-state fermentation of organic waste for improving structural and physiological properties of keratin peptides

This study systematically investigated the effects of a low-intensity magnetic field on the influence of keratinase activity, peptide yield, and structural and functional properties of peptides produced during solid-state fermentation (SSF) of mixed organic substrates (chicken feather powder and okara) using a mutant strain of Bacillus licheniformis. Initially, the magnetic field-assisted SSF (MSSF) conditions were optimized, which provided the optimized conditions as the number of treatments 3 at every 24 h (24, 48, and 72 h) with 4 h holding time at 120 Gs of magnetic intensity (mI). Under the optimum conditions, keratinase activity and peptide production increased by 10.31% and 13.77%, respectively. Further, in order to evaluate the influence of magnetic field treatment on the peptides, MSSF experiments were done under different mI conditions (40, 80, 120, and 160 Gs), followed by the evaluation of the structural changes of the extracted peptides. The structural analysis revealed that mI had a significant impact on the keratin surface. In contrast, secondary structure analysis confirmed the unfolding of the peptide with decreased α-keratin and increased β-keratin, thereby boosting the bioactive properties of the peptides. The highest hydroxyl free radical (.OH), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging and Fe2+ chelating rates (56.55, 71.36, and 50.72%, respectively) were found at 120 Gs, which were insignificant with the results at 160 Gs. Therefore, MSSF has a positive effect on the proteolysis mechanism, which can increase bioactive peptide production from keratin.

Piscicidal Effects of Terminalia arjuna Leaf,Bark and Fruit Extract on a Fresh Water Predatory Catfish,Heteropneustes fossilis

Piscicidal effects of several solvent extarcts(distilled water,50%ethanol,absolute ethanol and 80%methanol)of Terminalia arjuna leaves,barks and fruits were studied against a common fresh water predatory fish,Heteropneustes fossilis under laboratory conditions in terms of Behavior and mortality of fishes after 24 *** exposed to plant extracts showed agitating movement with quick surfacing,loss of balance,mucus secretion,and finally *** LC50 values of distilled water,50%ethanol,absolute ethanol and 80%methanol extracts were found to be 311.726,236.141,183.541,478.794 ppm for leaves,117.894,96.998,38.990,304.193 ppm for barks and 1400.033,949.209,555.201,875.158 ppm for fruits,***-square values were found to be insignificant at P*** on LC50 values,order of piscicidal activity followed the pattern,bark>leaf>fruit *** of piscicidal activity for the extracts was like absolute ethanol>50%ethanol>distilled water>80%methanol for leaf and bark,while for fruit extracts,trend was like absolute ethanol>80%methanol>50%ethanol>distilled water.

Enhancing the antibacterial activity of Lactobacillus reuteri against Escherichia coli by random mutagenesis and delineating its mechanism

In this study,Limsolactobacillus reuteri was genetically modified through random mutagenesis with atmospheric and room temperature plasma(ARTP),and mutants were screened for their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli using high-throughput screening(HTS),which finally provided a mutant strain named *** cell-free supernatant of AR-148(MCFS)exhibited 37%higher antibacterial activity on *** compared to the wild ***,the antibacterial effects of MCFS were studied at the cellular level,including membrane integrity,energy metabolism of key enzymes,DNA replication,and protein *** results revealed that MCFS exerted its antibacterial effects by disrupting cell membranes,affecting intracellular biomolecules(protein and DNA),and decreasing the contents of the intracellular enzymes(AKPase andβ-galactosidase).Further transcriptome analysis confirmed that MCFS had significant effects on the expression of genes in *** involved in energy metabolism,oxidative stress,cell wall and cell membrane integrity,and genetic *** this way,the present study revealed the antibacterial mechanism of MCFS against a Gramnegative bacterium for the first time,providing an experimental insight into antibacterial activity,which might be useful for further development and application of MCFS in food industries.

Performance analysis of a 2D numerical model in estimating minimum fluidization velocity for fluidized beds

Machine Learning Accelerated Real-Time Model Predictive Control for Power Systems

This paper presents a machine-learning-based speedup strategy for real-time implementation of model-predictive-control(MPC)in emergency voltage stabilization of power *** success in various applications,real-time implementation of MPC in power systems has not been successful due to the online control computation time required for large-sized complex systems,and in power systems,the computation time exceeds the available decision time used in practice by a large *** long-standing problem is addressed here by developing a novel MPC-based framework that i)computes an optimal strategy for nominal loads in an offline setting and adapts it for real-time scenarios by successive online control corrections at each control instant utilizing the latest measurements,and ii)employs a machine-learning based approach for the prediction of voltage trajectory and its sensitivity to control inputs,thereby accelerating the overall control computation by multiple ***,a realistic control coordination scheme among static var compensators(SVC),load-shedding(LS),and load tap-changers(LTC)is presented that incorporates the practical delayed actions of the *** performance of the proposed scheme is validated for IEEE 9-bus and 39-bus systems,with±20%variations in nominal loading conditions together with *** show that our proposed methodology speeds up the online computation by 20-fold,bringing it down to a practically feasible value(fraction of a second),making the MPC real-time and feasible for power system control for the first time.

Crystallization Conditions and Petrogenesis of the Paleoproterozoic Basement Rocks in Bangladesh:An Evaluation of Biotite and Coexisting Amphibole Mineral Chemistry

The Paleoproterozoic （-1.73 Ga） basement rocks from Maddhapara, Bangladesh show a large range of chemical variations including diorite, quartz diorite, monzodiorite, quartz monzonite and granite. These are composed of varying proportions of quartz＋plagioclase＋K-feldspar＋biotite＋ hornblende±epidote＋titanite＋magnetite＋apatite and zircon. Amphibole and biotite, dominant ferro- magnesian minerals, have been analyzed with an electron microprobe. The biotite, Mg-dominant trioc- tahedral micas, is classified as phlogopitic nature. Relatively high Mg （1.33-1.53 pfu）, Mg^# （0.52-0.59） and low AIw （0.13-0.25 pfu） contents in the biotite reflect slightly fractionated magma, which might be a relative indicator for the origin of the parental magma. Biotite is also a very good sensor of oxidation state of the parental magma. Oxygen fugacity of the studied biotites estimate within the QFM and HM buffers and equilibrate at about -12.35 and -12.46, which exhibit the source materials were relatively higher oxidation state during crystallization and related to arc magmatism. Whereas, calcic amphi- boles, a parental member of arc-related igneous suite, display consistent oxygen fugacity values （-11.7 to -12.3）, low Al^# （0.16-0.21） with H2Omelt （5.6 wt.%-9.5 wt.%） suggest their reliability with the typical values of calc-alkaline magma crystallization. The oxygen fugacity of magma is related to its source material, which in turn depends on tectonic setting. Discrimination diagrams and chemical indices of both biotite and amphibole of dioritic rocks reveal calc-alkaline orogenic complexes; mostly I-type suite formed within subduction-related environments. Moreover, igneous micas are used as metal- logenic indicator. The biotites with coexisting amphibole compositions show an apparent calc-alkaline trend of differentiation. The study suggests that the trend of oxidized magmas is commonly associated with compressive tectonic and convergent plate boundaries.

Rice Aroma: A Natural Gift Comes with Price and the Way Forward

Aromatic rice belongs to a small but important sub-group of rice,which is highly regarded for its excellent aroma and superior grain *** rice,especially Basmati-and Jasmine-type rice,is being traded at a high price in the local and global ***,rice aroma is a phenotypical expression of spontaneous recessive mutations of the OsBadh2 gene(also known as fgr/badh2/osbadh2/os2AP gene).These mutations inhibit the flow ofγ-aminobutyraldehyde(GAB-ald)toγ-aminobutyric acid(GABA),and consequently,the accumulated GAB-ald is diverted to a potent flavour component 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline(2AP)by a non-enzymatic reaction with *** natural incidence of non-functional osbadh2 mutation along with selection and nursing by the farmer from the ancient time makes rice aroma as a prominent natural *** GABA and methylglyoxal play significant roles in stress tolerance,and their biosynthesis is strictly regulated in rice plants,the accumulation of 2AP in aromatic rice depends on the interaction of various genetic and environmental factors,and its production may come at some costs of sacrificing *** review focused on some potential underlying genes in the 2AP and GABA biosynthesis pathways,and analyzed most aspects of aroma formation in rice,and summarized the molecular mechanism of aroma production together with its genetic and non-genetic influencing *** present review also stated approaches to produce high-quality aromatic rice via developing novel cultivars and with good agronomic knowledge-based practice.

Trophic functioning of macrobenthic fauna in a tropical acidified Bornean estuary(Southeast Asia)

The trophic structure of a community is used to infer ecosystem functioning(e.g. energy transfer and nutrient cycling). Here the trophic structure of the benthic infaunal and epifaunal communities in the Brunei Estuary are characterized, and their distribution along an estuarine pH gradient is analyzed using univariate and multivariate techniques. This analysis revealed that surface deposit feeders(e.g., polychaetes) were numerically dominant within the infaunal communities whereas in the epifaunal communities filter feeders(e.g., bivalves) were highly abundant. Species richness for almost all trophic groups increased toward the lower estuary, except for omnivores in the epifaunal communities, which decreased markedly. Both Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) and Analysis of Similarities(ANOSIM) detected significant differences in the density of respective trophic groups among stations. Within infaunal communities, both Biological and Environmental procedure(BIO-ENV) and Canonical Correspondence Analysis(CCA) showed that trophic shifts were associated with environmental gradients. Surface-deposit feeders and omnivores were the most abundant macrobenthos of the upper estuary characterized by low salinity, low pH, and a higher percentage of mud particles. The proportion of filter feeders and carnivores increased with salinity/pH and sand. A more uniform distribution of trophic structure was found in the lower estuary, with high salinity and pH over sandy habitat. In contrast, within epifaunal trophic groups,the percentage of surface deposit feeders and omnivores declined, but filter feeders remarkably increased toward the sea. The proportion of carnivores remained similar at all stations. Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling(nMDS) ordination for epifaunal trophic groups clearly demarcated higher salinity/pH stations from lower salinity/pH stations, suggesting different trophic compositions along the estuarine pH gradient.

A comparative study of the ATC-40 recommended and numerically derived M-φ relationship

Nonlinear static analysis procedures are key tools in evaluating the performance of existing buildings and verifying the design of seismic retrofits in seismically active regions. In this procedure, nonlinear force-displacement or moment-curvature （M-φ） behavior needs to be defined. In the ATC-40 document, values of M-φ have been proposed to model elements in a nonlinear procedure. However, these values need to be investigated to determine if they are representative of actual values. In this paper, an attempt has been made to numerically derive M-φ curves to simulate actual performance. Then, these curves are compared with the ATC-40 recommended curves with respect to various parameters. The study indicated that ATC-40 suggested values are conservative in nature in most situations.
