γ-Polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) is a major component of Natto. We hypothesized that γ-PGA could reduce postprandial glucose rise and plasma glucose levels. Mice were fed a 0.1% γ-PGA—containing diet or control diet for 91 days. Maltose and starch tolerance tests were performed, and plasma lipids, glucose levels, and caecal short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were measured. Mice were co-administered γ-PGA and starch to suppress the initial rise in blood glucose levels. Blood glucose levels at 15 min were significantly lower in the PGA group than in the Con group (P 0.05). The plasma glucose level and NEFA level were also significantly lower in the PGA group (P 0.05), and caecal acetic acid/total caecal SCFAs ratio was significantly increased in the PGA group (P 0.05). Significant negative correlations existed between the caecal acetic acid/propionic acid ratio and the weight of visceral fat/BW (r =?-0.57, P = 0.0318). our results suggest that γ-PGA may effectively prevent metabolic syndrome by lowering blood glucose levels.

A DC （data center） demands air-conditioning power as large as the 1/3-1/2 of total electricity consumption. Thus, energy saving of cooling power of DC yields considerable effect on both economic and environmental views. PV （Photovoltaic） and absorption refrigerator with CGS （cogeneration systems） or gas boiler are possible power saving options. The waste warm air from DC would be utilized for greenhouse heating when DC and greenhouse locate near in the suburbs. In this study, the authors develop an energy network model to assess the potential contribution of DC as a major electric power and chilled air consumer as well as the warm air supplier in a district to the energy efficiency improvement. The evaporation heat of LNG （liquefied natural gas） utilization is also considered as well as PV, CGS. This model is applied to the cases of the urban area in Tokyo which involves athletic center, shops and hospital and the suburbs including greenhouse and then compared.

AIM To identify the clinical features of gastric mucosaassociated lymphoid tissue(MALT) lymphoma with extra copies of *** This is a multi-centered,retrospective study. We reviewed 146 patients with MALT lymphoma in the stomach who underwent fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis for t(11;18) translocation. Patients were subdivided into patients without t(11;18) translocation or extra copies of MALT1(Group A,n = 88),patients with t(11;18) translocation(Group B,n = 27),and patients with extra copies of MALT1(Group C,n = 31). The clinical background,treatment,and outcomes of each group were *** Groups A and C showed slight female predominance,whereas Group B showed slight male predominance. Mean ages and clinical stages at lymphoma diagnosis were not different between groups. Complete response was obtained in 61 patients in Group A(69.3%),22 in Group B(81.5%),and 21 in Group C(67.7%). Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) eradication alone resulted in complete remission in 44 patients in Group A and 13 in Group C. In Group B,14 patients underwent radiotherapy alone,which resulted in lymphoma disappearance. Although the difference was not statistically significant,event-free survival in Group C tended to be inferior to that in Group A(P = 0.10).CoNCLUSIoN Patients with t(11;18) translocation should be treated differently from others. Patients with extra copies of MALT1 could be initially treated with H. pylori eradication,similar to patients without t(11;18) translocation or extra copies of MALT1.

It is well known that the system (1 + 1) can be unequal to 2, because this system has both observation error and system error. Furthermore, we must provide our mustered service within our cool head and warm heart, where two states of nature are existing upon us. Any system is regarded as the two-dimensional variable error model. on the other hand, we consider that the fuzziness is existing in this system. Though we can usually obtain the fuzzy number from the possibility theory, it is not fuzzy but possibility, because the possibility function is as same as the likelihood function, and we can obtain the possibility measure by the maximal likelihood method (i.e. max product method proposed by Dr. Hideo Tanaka). Therefore, Fuzzy is regarded as the only one case according to Vague, which has both some state of nature in this world and another state of nature in the other world. Here, we can consider that Type 1 Vague Event in other world can be obtained by mapping and translating from Type 1 fuzzy Event in this world. We named this estimation as Type 1 Bayes-Fuzzy Estimation. When the Vague Events were abnormal (ex. under War), we need to consider that another world could exist around other world. In this case, we call it Type 2 Bayes-Fuzzy Estimation. Where hori et al. constructed the stochastic different equation upon Type 1 Vague Events, along with the general following probabilistic introduction method from the single regression model, multi-regression model, AR model, Markov (decision) process, to the stochastic different equation. Furthermore, we showed that the system theory approach is Possibility Markov Process, and that the making decision approach is Sequential Bayes Estimation, too. After all, Type 1 Bays-Fuzzy estimation is the special case in Bayes estimation, because the pareto solutions can exist in two stochastic different equations upon Type 2 Vague Events, after we ignore one equation each other (note that this is Type 1 case), we can obtain both its

Few potentially curative treatment options exist apart from hepatic resection for patients with huge hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Proton radiotherapy is a promising new modality which has an inherent antitumor effect against HCC. However, the application of proton radiotherapy for tumors adjacent to the gastrointestinal tract is restricted because the tolerance dose of the intestine is extremely low. A novel two-step treatment was developed with surgical spacer placement and subsequent proton radiotherapy to administer proton radiotherapy with curative intent. This report presents a case of a patient with a huge unresectable HCC treated by this method who achieved disease-free survival of more than 2 years. This new strategy may potentially be an innovative and standard therapy for unresectable HCC in the near future.

试验研究了绿芦笋采后压差预冷和没预冷,用发泡聚苯乙烯箱和瓦楞纸箱包装,在2℃条件下冷藏10天2、0天、30天4、0天和50天的品质变化。结果表明:冷藏20天的绿芦笋新鲜并具有商品性。随着冷藏时间的延长,绿芦笋的失重率、腐烂率和顶端鳞片松散率逐渐增多,颜色变浅,可溶性固形物、维生素C和糖含量逐渐降低,叶绿素含量前期下降,中后期逐渐升高。压差预冷和包装方法对绿芦笋的保鲜效果影响较大。PC+EPS的保鲜效果最好,不但能减少绿芦笋的失重率、腐烂率和顶端鳞片松散率,而且能减少其可溶性固形物、维生素C和糖含量的损失。

oxidative stress and extracellular matrices after hepatectomy and liver transplantation in rats

AIM:To investigate oxidative stress(oS)-mediated damage and the behavior of extracellular matrices in various rat models because shear stress with portal hypertension and cold ischemia/warm reperfusion injury trigger the liver regeneration cascade after surgery. These injuries also cause fatal liver ***: Rats were divided into four groups according to the surgery performed: control; hepatectomy with 40% liver remnant(60% hepatectomy); orthotopic liver transplantation(oLT) with whole liver graft(100% oLT); and split oLT(SoLT) with 40% graft(40% SoLT). Survival was evaluated. Blood and liver samples were collected at 6 h after surgery. Biochemical and histopathological examinations were performed. oSinduced damage, 4-hydroxynonenal, ataxia-telangiectasia mutated kinase, histone H2AX, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K) and Akt were evaluated by western blotting. Behavior of extracellular matrices, matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-9, MMP-2, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase(TIMP)-1 and TIMP-2 were also evaluated by western blotting and zymography. RESULTS: Although 100% oLT survived, 60% hepatectomy and 40% SoLT showed poor survival. Histopathological, immunohistological, biochemical and protein assays revealed that 60% hepatectomy, 100% oLT and 40% SoLT showed liver damage. PI3K and Akt were decreased in 60% hepatectomy and 40% SoLT. For protein expression, 40% SoLT showed differences in MMP-9, MMP-2 and TIMP-2. TIMP-1 showed differences in 60% hepatectomy and 40% SoLT. For protein activity, MMP-9 demonstrated significant differences in 60% hepatectomy, 100% oLT and 40% SoLT. CoNCLUSIoN: Under conditions with an insufficient liver remnant, prevention of oS-induced damage via the Akt/PI3K pathway may be key to improve the postoperative course. MMP-9 may be also a therapeutic target after surgery.

Ectopic Hormone Production from ovarian Tumor: A Review

Although ectopic hormone-production is uncommon complication, certain tumors can produce symptoms due to the secretion of various bioactive substances accompanied by the aberrantly located tumors. Because of the potential for the ovary to act as a source of aberrant hormone secretion, in the literature, ectopic hormone production from ovarian tumor includes granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), peptide-YY, gastrin and insulin. All patients may present with syndromes of hormone excess. Failure to localize the ovarian tumor preoperatively may be associated with a significantly higher risk of subsequent unnecessary ablative procedures. Better characterization of hormonal forms relatively specific for neoplasia may enhance the clinical value of ectopic hormones as tumor markers, especially in malignancies that are commonly associated with ectopic hormone production. These circumstances may recommend complete preoperative evaluation of the pelvis in female patients presenting with nonlocalizable endocrine tumors.

Impact of lymph node micrometastasis in hilar bile duct carcinoma patients

AIM- To immunohistochemicaUy examine micrometastasis and VEGF-C expression in hilar bile duct carcinoma （HBDC） and to evaluate the clinical significance of the results. METHoDS： A total of 361 regional lymph nodes from 25 patients with node-negative HBDC were immunostained with an antibody against cytokeratins 8 and 18 （CAM 5.2）, and immunohistochemical staining of VEGF-C was performed in 34 primary resected tumors. RESULTS： Lymph node micrometastasis was detected in 6 （24%） of the 25 patients and 10 （2.8%） of the 361 lymph nodes. Patients with micrometastasis showed significantly poorer survival rates than those without （P= 0.025）. VEGF-C expression was positive in 17 （50%） of 34 HBDC, and significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis （P=0.042） and microscopic venous invasion （P=0.035）. CoNCLUSIoNS： It is suggested that immunohistochemically detected lymph node micrometastasis has an impact on the outcome of HBDC. VEGF-C expression is highly correlated with lymph node metastasis in HBDC and might therefore be a useful predictor.
