Wood is a lignocellulosic material that,because of its organic nature,is a source of nutrients for bacteria,fungi,and *** marginipennis(Latreille)is an interesting dry wood-boring *** it is an extremely destructive pest,difficult to control due to its cryptic lifestyle,and for its role in the biogeochemical cycle of carbon and other elements;it is a fundamental *** use of less toxic and eco-friendly substances is important for protecting domestic,cultural,and historical heritage made of wood or lignocellulosic *** aim of this study was to evaluate the biological activity of various naphthoquinones extracted from the heartwood of *** on ***,heartwood flour was used for Soxhlet-type extractions to isolate and characterize the heartwood compounds by thin-layer *** identify the heartwood compounds,nuclear magnetic resonance and gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer were *** information obtained was supported using the Interactive Spectroscopy *** identified heartwood compounds were lapachol,tectoquinone,deoxylapachol,dehydro-α-lapachone,tectol and *** nymphal termites of *** as a biological model,the isolated and identified molecules were under three different tests(repellent,insecticide and protective)and their biological activity was individually *** results showed that the molecules obtained have a repellent-protective effect against ***,although not in all cases,these molecules have high percentages of mortality and decreased the weight loss of the treated material exposed to ***.

The high activity of metallic magnesium and alloys limits its potential in biomedical applications;in recent years,extensive efforts have been devoted to modulating this *** this work,we present Mg(OH)_(2) and Tio_(2)barrier coatings to reduce the degradation of magnesium alloy(Mg-Ca-Zn)*** coatings were deposited by the anodization method and the spin-coating technique,*** anodized layer was coated with Tio_(2)generated from the hydrolysis of 3%weight of TTIP(Ti[OCH(CH_(3))_(2)]_(4),Titanium(IV)isopropoxide)in 2-Propanol deposited by the spin-coating *** the degradation in Ringer’s solution by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and OCP revealed a 98%reduction in pittings in uncoated samples after 14 days of *** p H measurements revealed that the Tio_(2)coating reduced the alkalization of the physiological environment,keeping the pH at 6.0 *** vitro studies of two types of bacteria(*** and ***)exhibited zones of inhibition in the agar and activity bactericidal(kill time test).The mechanisms behind the improved degradation resistance and enhanced antibacterial activity are presented and discussed *** modification with Mg(OH)_(2)/Tio_(2)coatings is a promising strategy to control the biodegradation of magnesium implants for bone regeneration.

Multi-phase ceramics based on ZrB_(2),TiB_(2) and doped with CrB_(2) and SiC were prepared by powder metallurgy and hot pressing to explore the possibility of obtaining multi-scale microstructures by super-saturation of complex(Zr,Ti,Cr)B_(2) solid ***-shell structures formed in TiB_(2) grains,whereas ZrB_(2) appeared to form a homogeneous solid solution with the other *** of nano-inclusions within both micron-sized borides was assessed by transmission electron microscopy and thermodynamics elucidated the preferential formation of boride inclusions due to the specific sintering *** addition,atomic size factors explicated the precipitation of CrB_(2) nano-particles into ZrB_(2)-rich grains and of ZrB_(2) nano-particles into TiB_(2)-rich *** hardness of the constituent phases measured by nanoindentation ranged from 36 to 43 GPa.

Friction-based riveting technique for AZ31 magnesium alloy

A new friction-based riveting technique, Rotating Hammer Riveting(RHR), is demonstrated to fully form AZ31 Mg rivet heads in a mere 0.23 s. Heat and pressure generated through severe plastic deformation during the process was sufficient to form the Mg rivet head without the need for a pre-heating operation. Due to preliminary twinning and followed by dynamic recrystallization, AZ31 Mg grains in the rivet head were refined during RHR, which enhance the formability of Mg rivets by triggering grain boundary sliding and reducing plastic anisotropy of Mg. In addition, RHR joints showed a metallurgical bond between the rivet head and top AZ31 Mg sheet, which eliminates a significant pathway for corrosion.

Management of“Wall to Wall Heart”in a Transient Neonatal Tricuspid Regurgitation

We present a case of a one-day-old newborn,without prenatal diagnosis,referred to our cardiologic intensive care unit in critical condition presenting sub-cyanosis and peripheral oxygen saturation of 80%.Echocardiography diagnosis was tricuspid valve dysplasia with severe regurgitation,functional pulmonary valve atresia with intact ventricular septum and reversal flow in the large patent ductus arteriosus(PDA).Chest X-ray showed severe cardiomegaly and wall to wall *** E1 infusion was started once after *** few days,clinical conditions progressively worsened because of right heart failure;a first pharmacological approach to close PDA failed and surgery ligation of PDA was necessary to restore anterograde pulmonary flow and heart size.
