Background: Adolescent pregnancy is a public health problem of concern in developed, developing and underdeveloped countries. Trends in developing and underdeveloped countries are higher and account for most adverse pregnancy outcomes. Adolescence is a period of transition between childhood and adulthood. The burden of coping with changes with this transition and at the same time preparing for childbirth puts pregnant adolescent girls on edge. Childbirth and childrearing are critical moments that require support and specialized skills to nurture healthy infants. Aim: This study aims to assess the readiness of adolescent expectant mothers towards childbirth and childrearing in the Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem (KEEA) district of the central region of Ghana. Methods: This study utilized the total population sampling technique to collect data from three sites that offer specialized adolescent antenatal services within the KEEA district of the central region of Ghana. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0 and results presented as descriptive statistics. Results: This study assessed maternal readiness for childbirth and childrearing among 98 pregnant adolescent girls. The study was dominated by late adolescents who made up 86.7% of study participants. Regarding readiness for childrearing, the majority (74.5%) said they could not independently cater for their children and will require some support. The majority (52.0%) have had some form of counseling with a greater number (41.2%) coming from parents. Regarding readiness to embrace childbirth, the majority (82.4%) of respondents said they had companions who were willing to support them during childbirth. The majority (57.1%) of responden

Background: Hepatitis-B (Hep-B) infection is a global public health problem of great concern which affects more than 5% of the local population in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study assessed students’ knowledge, attitude and practices towards Hepatitis B infection and vaccination at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative descriptive survey was conducted among 262 Public Health students of the University of Health and Allied Science of the Volta region of Ghana, using a multi-stage sampling technique in selecting participants. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the participants. Data was analyzed using SPSS Version 20.1. Results: Study respondents were mostly males, forming 69.8% as against 30.2% of their female counterparts. All (262) respondents had knowledge on Hep-B infection and the availability of a vaccine for preventing Hepatitis infection. However, despite their knowledge of existence, the majority (56.9%) of the respondents felt they did not need to be protected from Hep-B infection. Majority (58.8%) of the total respondents have been vaccinated against Hep-B infection. The study identified the cost of vaccines as a major setback to non-vaccination. However, out of the 41.2% respondents who were not vaccinated against Hep B infection, majority (50.9%) of them were not willing to be vaccinated even if it was offered to them at no cost. Conclusion: There was a significantly high level of knowledge on Hep-B infection and the availability of vaccine for Hep-B infection among students. However, the majority of the respondents felt they did not need to be protected from Hep-B infection. More education is needed on the importance of vaccination as an effective measure for controlling Hepatitis infection.

Functional Capacity of Patients with Venous Thromboembolic Disease Six to Twelve Months after Treatment

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is among the leading causes of hospital-related disability-adjusted life years lost. We aimed to determine the prevalence and determinants of functional capacity impairment six to twelve months after an acute VTE event. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted between January and April 2021 in two referral hospitals of Yaoundé, including consenting adult patients admitted to these hospitals six to twelve months ago for VTE. We excluded dead patients and those with any comorbidity or symptoms limiting physical activity. The functional outcome was assessed with the six-minute walk test. Functional capacity impairment was defined as walking distance lower than the expected value. Results: We included 27 cases in this study with a mean age of 53.2 ± 14.4 years. The prevalence of functional capacity impairment was 29.6% (95% CI: 14.8 - 48.1). Factors associated with poor functional outcome were obesity (OR: 59.5;95% CI: 4.6 - 767.2;p - 207.4;p = 0.017), massive PE (OR: 30;95% CI: 2.5 - 354;p = 0.004), and poor adherence to treatment (OR: 30.3;95% CI: 2.5 - 333.3;p = 0.004). Conclusion: Functional capacity impairment is common in the medium-term after VTE and factors associated with this poor outcome are obesity, the severity of the VTE, and poor adherence to treatment.

Effect of Initial Size and Shape Importance on Masse Transfer during Convective Drying

In this paper the influence of sample initial size on their convective drying at 80°C using convective dryer is determined. Results prove that initial size must be taken into account when drying process was estimated. This influence is limited by its form of cut. Comparing cubic form and parallelepiped (slice) one;results seem to show that thickness is the most important parameter governing the transfer phenomena during foodstuff convective drying. Three slices with thickness of 0.5 cm and surface area of 17, 82 and 112 cm2 respectively, dry better than cubic sample with a = 1 cm or a = 2 cm of arrest and having respectively 6 and 24 cm2 of surface area. All things seem to show that initial surface is not only the essential parameter;but also the thickness of the sample must be taken into account. Indeed, all of the samples with equal thickness (0.5 cm) and different exchange surfaces dry at the same time, about 210 min, comparing with cubic form 1 cm of arrest and 6 cm2 of surface and drying time of 230 min. A new parameter noted Dc called characteristic diameter is so considered to bridge the gaps. It is defined to be the diameter of the biggest sphere we can cut into a sample. This parameter is independent of form of the sample, and time increase with characteristic diameter increasing.

银矿资源是我国不可再生的资源。近年来,随着金属银在摄影、装饰、银器、珠宝和硬币铸造等方面需求量的增大,银矿资源开采量日益增加,日趋衰竭。针对银矿石量的短缺,不少学者和研究员试图开发低品位银的锰银矿床,来缓解银供求的紧张状况。本文采用湿法冶金技术研究了锰银矿中银的分离与回收效果及其影响因素。在试验过程中,采用磁选方法进行矿物分离,分离后的目标矿以蔗糖为还原剂进行酸浸。浸出后,运用螺旋选矿机脱泥,去渣留液,将银浸出并回收。整个提银的过程环保无污染。试验结果表明,此种湿法技术可以有效实现银的分离与回收。磁选试验中,研究了矿样颗粒的大小及其它影响参数对Slon-100磁分离效率的影响。结果表明,Slon-100循环脉动高梯度磁选机可以有效地去除矿物杂质,提高银的品味。且在最佳实验条件下进行磁选,矿石中锰含量从13.68%上升至21.87%,银的精矿品位可以达到318g/t。以蔗糖为还原剂浸出锰银矿试验结果表明,最优试验条件下：磨矿细度为-0.074 mm占80%,硫酸含量为80%(g/g),蔗糖与矿石的比例为1：7,液固比为3：1,温度80℃,浸出时间2 h,约95.21%的锰被提取,93.23%的银得到回收。浸锰渣中银的品位由318卧提高到了483g/t。采用螺旋选矿机脱泥时,通常通过增加旋转转速,限制轻的矿物进入狭窄的内部,实现高效脱泥。实验结果表明,当矿浆浓度为25%,水洗流量为15L/min,颗粒粒径过200目筛。品位为2234g/t的银精矿中银的回收率可达到89.27%。从还原浸出渣中提取银的最有效条件为：金蝉选金试剂(JC)用量为4kg/t,pH值为11.2,浸出时间14-16 h、浸出温度25℃以及液固体比为2：1。在此试验条件下,银的回收率约为86%。在锌粉用量为2 g/L,反应时间为30 min时,锌粉置换沉银的回收率为92%。通过湿式磁选、还原浸出、重力脱泥、金蝉选金试剂浸出后,采用锌粉置换沉银,银的最终回收率可达90%以上。在环境应用领域中,以蔗糖作为还原剂浸出锰银矿是很有前景的,蔗糖资源量很多,特别是一些制糖企业停止用蔗糖来制糖蜜。与此同时,与氰化钠相比,金蝉环保金选矿剂具有无毒性,价格低廉,浸出率高等优点,因此,可以作为一种广泛使用的浸银试剂。由以上结论可知,通过提高银品味后,再采用湿法提银的方法,能在不危害环境的条件下,有效的从锰银矿中回收银,这既满足了现代人的需求,又达到了不损害子孙后代的利益的目的。

Consideration of Size and Dimension in the Evaluation of Transfers during Convective Drying of Sweet Potato

This work is interested in solving the complex problem of understanding mass transfers in biological media. The contribution of the initial sample size is taken into account. Transfers are established more efficiently in small samples. Thus, from the first 50 minutes, the cubic sample at 1 cm stop is already at 50% while the sample at 4 cm edge is at about 90% of its initial water content. Likewise the shape is combined with the size. But it is revealed that if we fix similar characteristic dimensions, we can bypass the notion of initial shape. Thus the cubic samples 4 cm of edges. 4 cm diameter of spherical shape, 4 cm × 4 cm height-diameter cylindrical one, all dry identically.
