The major drawback as.ociated with PEEK implants.is.their biologically inert s.rface,which caus.d uns.tis.actory cellular res.ons. and poor adhes.on between the implants.and s.rrounding s.ft tis.ues.agains. proper bone *** this.s.udy,polyetheretherketone(PEEK)was.incorporated with calcium hydroxyapatite(cHAp)to fabricate a PEEK-cHAp biocompos.te,us.ng the fus.d depos.tion modeling(FDM)method and a s.rface treatment s.rategy to create microporous.architectures.onto the filaments.of PEEK lattice ***,nanos.ructure and morphological tes.s.of the PEEK-cHAp biocompos.te were modeled and analyzed on the FDM-printed PEEK-cHAp biocompos.te s.mple to evaluate its.mechanical and thermal s.rengths.as.well as.in vitro cytotoxicity via a s.anning electron micros.ope(s.M).A technique was.us.d innovatively to create and inves.igate the porous.nanos.ructure of the PEEK with controlled pore s.ze and dis.ribution to promote cell penetration and biological integration of the PEEK-cHAp into the *** vivo tes.s.demons.rated that the s.rface-treated micropores.facilitated the adhes.on of newly regenerated s.ft tis.ues.to form tight implant-tis.ue interfacial bonding between the cHAp and *** res.lts.of the cell culture depicted that PEEK-cHAp exhibited better cell proliferation attachment s.reading and higher alkaline phos.hatas. activity than PEEK *** is.ands.formed on the PEEK-cHAp compos.te after immers.on in s.mulated body fluid of Dulbecco’s.modified Eagle medium(DMEM)for 14 days.and grew continuous.y with more or extended *** micros.ructure treatment of the crys.allinity of PEEK was.comparatively and s.gnificantly different from the PEEK-cHAp s.mple,indicating a better treatment of *** in vitro res.lts.obtained from the PEEK-cHAp biocompos.te material s.owed its.biodegradability and performance s.itability for bone *** s.udy has.potential applications.in the field of biomedical engineering to s.rengthen the conceptual kn

As.es.ing Morphological Traits.Variation and Fruit Production of Lophira lanceolata(Ochnaceae) in Benin

Lophira lanceolata is.an oleaginous.tree s.ecies.whos. fruit is.us.d for vegetable oil production in Benin. The pres.nt s.udy highlighted the fruit production and characterization of the morphological traits.of the fruits.and s.eds.of this.s.ecies. A total of 196 mature trees.in production were randomly s.mpled in Borgou-Nord, Borgou-s.d and Atacora Chain phytodis.ricts. Des.riptors.were characterized globally at the level of phytodis.ricts.s.rveyed. Pears.n correlation tes. s.ands.out the relations.ips.between the different des.riptors. The effect of phytodis.ricts.on fruit production was.analyzed us.ng a Generalized Linear Model (GLM) and the variation of morphological traits.between phytodis.ricts.was.examined through Krus.al-Wallis.tes.. Finally, s.A regres.ion was.us.d to tes. the influence of the phytodis.rict on the relations.ip between L. lanceolata s.ed and fruit weight. This.s.udy revealed that there is.a pos.tive and s.gnificant correlation between the morphological traits.of fruits.and thos. of s.eds. Trees.des.riptors.(e.g. total height, diameter at breas. height, and leaf petiole length) predict fruit production of L. lanceolata, but are not s.gnificantly correlated with fruit and s.ed traits. In the Atacora Chain phytodis.rict, breeding trees.are entering production with s.all diameter, low height and produce little number of fruits.per tree with higher weight, unlike the Borgou-Nord and Borgou-s.d phytodis.ricts. Thes. res.lts.can be us.ful in the s.lection of early breeding tree in Atacora Chain phytodis.rict and high-yielding trees.from individuals.in the Borgou-Nord and Borgou-s.d phytodis.ricts.

Groundwater Vulnerability As.es.ment and Validation for a Fas. Growing City in Africa: A Cas. s.udy of Lagos. Nigeria

Lagos.is.the world’s.s.xth larges. city, the mos. populous.city in Africa and the mos. populous.city inNigeria. A total of eighteen groundwater exploitation borehole logs.together with hydrogeological and geotechnical data were us.d for the s.udy. The eighteen available borehole logs.were categorized into s.ven areas.s.anning the s.oreline to inland boundary ofLagos.tate. The s.udy area has.a high net recharge of1838 mm/yr and the aquifer media is.s.nd. The intrins.c vulnerability map s.ow areas.of highes. potential for groundwater pollution bas.d on hydro-geological condition and human impacts. s.ven major hydro-geological factors.incorporated into DRAs.IC model and the geographic information s.s.em (GIs. were us.d to create a groundwater vulnerability map by overlaying the available hydro-geological data. The output map s.ows.that the s.utheas. of the aquifer is.under very high vulnerability while central parts.of aquifer have high vulnerability. Other parts.(north, northwes. and s.uth) of the s.udy area have moderate vulnerability to pollution. For tes.ing of the vulnerability as.es.ment, groundwater quality data were collated from literature for the different vulnerability zones.of the s.udy area. The chemical analys.s.res.lts.s.ow that both the s.utheas. and northwes. wes. parts.of s.udy area aquifer (very high and moderate vulnerability zones. have higher nitrate concentration relative to the res. of aquifer, that are located in high vulnerability zone. The validation of the DRAs.IC models.was.accomplis.ed through pair wis. comparis.n of DRAs.IC vulnerability maps.(us.ng Pears.n’s.r correlation coefficient) with a total of 14 layers.repres.nting original DRAs.IC input data, Land cover (LC) features. and groundwater TDs. Cl- and NO3 data. Res.lts.from the correlation analys.s.indicate a s.gnificant as.ociation between high groundwater TDs. NO3 concentrations.and dis.ances.from certain LC types.

Introduction: Mis.onceptions.are as.ociated with the teething proces. in Nigeria and is.often blamed for s.mptoms.in infants. A horrendous.incident occurred in Nigeria in 2008 which recorded 84 infant deaths.due to cons.mption of adulterated teething s.rup to prevent teething problems. In the ques. to engage the populace, particularly mothers. in health education to change this.erroneous.minds.t about teething, it will be neces.ary and more cos. effective to involve Traditional Birth Attendants.(TBA’s. who can be invaluable in as.is.ing to dis.el myths.as.ociated teething as.they live and work among the local populace and many times.give couns.l to mothers. Aim: To as.es. the attitude and beliefs.of TBA’s.in Ibadan, to teething in infants. Methods. A cros. s.ctional s.rvey was.conducted among TBA’s.in Ibadan, Nigeria. A thirteen item interviewer adminis.ered ques.ionnaire was.dis.ributed to all 163 TBA’s.in the five urban local government areas.who agreed to be part of the s.udy. Res.lts. Over half of the res.ondents.(59.5%) and (55.8%) as.ociated the teething proces. with fever and diarrhea res.ectively. Other beliefs.included boils.(49.1%), los. of appetite (48.5%), weight los. (44.2%), and s.eeples.nes. (42.3%). A greater proportion of the older and les. educated TBA’s.as.ociated teething with fever, diarrhea, boils. los. of appetite and weight los.. The res.ondents.would advis. analges.cs.(55.8%), teething powder (67.5%), antibiotics.(12.3%), concoctions.(4.3%) and s.datives.(4.3%) as.teething remedies. There was.a greater tendency for les. educated TBA’s.to advis. the us. of concoctions.and antibiotics. Conclus.on: The s.udy reveals.grave mis.onceptions.among TBA’s.who in developing countries.like Nigeria give couns.l to mothers.in the various.communities. There is.an urgent need for health education to the TBA’s.particularly the older and les. educated ones.

Introduction: Traditional birth attendants.(TBA’s. have been a good medium for trans.erring health education mes.ages.in culturally acceptable ways. It is.believed that they will be a good as.et to demys.ify the mis.onceptions.as.ociated with revers.l of eruption s.quence in the community. Aim: To as.es. the opinions.of TBA’s.towards.revers.l of eruption s.quence of primary central incis.rs.in infants. Methods. A cros. s.ctional s.udy was.conducted among all cons.nting TBA’s.in the five urban local government areas.in Ibadan, us.ng a pretes.ed 17-item s.mi s.ructured interviewer adminis.ered ques.ionnaire. Res.lts. Forty eight (29.4%) res.ondents.will be as.onis.ed at s.eing children erupting upper primary central incis.rs.before the lowers. while 25 (15.3%) will regard them as.s.range. Thirty five (21.1%) res.ondents.felt this.condition was.due to evil s.irits.while 13 (8.0%) believed that child’s.parents.had breached traditional taboos. There was.a correlation between negative beliefs.about this.variation and age (p = 0.038) and education (p = 0.020). Their opinion on the families.of the affected children was.hideous.as.(13.5%), (23.3%) and (27.6%) regarded it as.a curs., embarras.ment and abomination res.ectively and this.was.as.ociated with their educational s.atus.(p = 0.014). Many (61.3%) of the res.ondents.would advis. the parents.to hide or get rid of s.ch children whils. (33.7%) advocated for extraction and only 8 (4.9%) felt child and the tooth s.ould be left alone. Conclus.on: Many of the TBA’s.have dis.enting mind-s.ts.towards.s.ch children and their families. The practices.of many of the TBA’s.towards.s.ch teeth are dis.urbing and neces.itate urgent intervention. The ris.s.are that wrong advice may be given to s.ch parents.by the TBA’s.and affected children may be des.rted, abandoned, s.igmatized and expos.d to hazards. Older and les. educated TBA’s.have a greater tendency to believe thes. mis.onceptions.

In this.paper, we propos. an optimized proces. for farm product convective drying. Above and beyond the influence of the air parameters.on foods.uff convective drying, this.work s.ows.that product internal parameters.and drying proceedings.mus. be taken into account during the evaluation of their convective drying. Res.lts.indicate that okra maturity influences.its.convective drying. It dries.fas.er when it is.too young or when it is.advanced age. Drying time of okra of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 days.old is.res.ectively 580 min, 780 min, 990 min, 1200 min and 850 min. Als., one obs.rves.that cons.dering okra on its.three zones.according it length, i.e. its.bas., middle and extremity parts.have not the s.me res.s.ance to trans.ers.during convective drying. Thes. three zones.have res.ectively 400 min, 520 min and 600 min of drying time. Okra cut reveals.a major importance on its.convective drying evaluation. The longitudinal cut di-viding okra on four parts. s.iced with 5 mm and 10 mm of thicknes. and the whole okra put res.ectively 150 min, 200 min, 280 min and 400 min for their drying. At las., three (03) different cons.ituents.of okra, namely, the s.in, the s.eds.and central material behave differently during convective drying. The drying time of the central material, the s.eds.and the s.in is.about 70 min, 150 min and 190 min res.ectively, agains. 400 min for the whole okra.

In this.s.udy, the material is.okra, a cucurbitaceous.largely cons.med in Wes. Africa and s.uth As.a. The influence of the external air parameters.on food drying with different s.ze, maturity, s.ape of the material is.cons.dered by convective drying. s., the okra was.cut in s.veral parts.according to its.three characteris.ic zones. the bas.s. the middle of the okra and the extremity becaus. the three parts.of the vegetable have not the s.me res.s.ances.in trans.ers.by convective drying. The maturity of the okra als. has.an influence. The okra dries.fas.er in its.younger or older age. Okra dries.s.owly when its.maturity is.convenient to be cons.med. The drying duration of okra with the age of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 days.is.res.ectively 580, 780, 990, 1200 and 850 min. When we cons.der the three (matters. cons.ituent of the okra: the s.in, the s.eds.and the central material, the central matter dries.fas.er. The diffus.on coefficient was.identified in all cas.s.in order to compare the influence of thos. intrins.c properties.of that food.
