Mast seeding is a common phenomenon,and has important effects on seed dispersal and hoarding by *** population level,predator satiation hypothesis proposes that the satiation effect of large amount of seeds on relative small number of predators benefit seed survival in mast seeding ***,it is largely unknown how mast-seeding affects scatter-hoarding of rodents at individual level. In this study,we investigated effects of seed abundance(by simulating mast or non-mast seeding) on seed removal,consumption and scatter-hoarding of Camellia oleifera(Theaceae) by Edward's rat Leopoldamys edwardsi(Muridae) in semi-natural enclosures in southwestern *** want to test the masting-enhanced hoarding hypothesis that rodents tend to scatter-hoard more seeds in mast seeding years for occupying more food *** results indicate that *** tends to disperse and scatter-hoard more seeds of *** per night with increase of seed abundance,and eating less seeds per night at the high-level seed abundance in the enclosure *** results support the masting-enhanced hoarding *** capacity of rodents may be an evolutionary adaptation to mast seeding *** results suggest that mast seeding not only benefit forest regeneration through predator satiation effect at population level,but also through the increased hoarding effect of animals at individual level.
