Pyrrole derivatives as interlayer modifier of Li-S batteries:Modulation of electrochemical performance by molecular perturbation

The electrochemical performance of lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries is strongly hampered by the shuttle effect and slow redox kinetics of lithium polysulfides(Li PSs).Surface modified interlayer of a separator of Li-S batteries is demonstrated to be an effective strategy to overcome this problem.Herein,cobalt nanoparticles confined in nitrogen co-doped porous carbon framework(Co-CN)were developed from pyrolysis of ZIF-67 and used as interlayer of PP separator for Li-S batteries,and were functionalized by four pyrrole derivatives,1-phenylpyrrole,1-methyl pyrrole,1-(p-toluenesulfonyl)pyrrole,and 1-pyrrole,respectively,which were screened in terms of the electron-withdrawing/donating ability of the substituent groups on the pyrrolic nitrogen.The impact of the molecular structure of pyrrole derivatives on the interaction with Li PSs and the electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries were explored by nuclear magnetic resonance and theoretical calculation.It is uncovered that 1-phenylpyrrole shows the highest enhancement of redox kinetics of Li PSs,attributing to the optimal interaction with Co nanoparticles and Li PSs.Therefore,1-phenylpyrrole modified Co-CN interlayer enables the best electrochemical performance for the Li-S batteries,delivering a specific capacity of 562 m Ah g^(-1)at 5 C and a capacity of 538,526,and 449 m Ah g^(-1)after 500 cycles at 1,2,and 3 C,respectively.At a high sulfur loading of 5.5 mg cm^(-2),it achieves a capacity of 440 m Ah g^(-1)after 500 cycles at 1 C.This work reveals the interaction mechanism among Li PSs,Co nanoparticles and the molecular modifiers in improving the electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries.

The electrocatalytic activity of BaTiO3 nanoparticles towards polysulfides enables high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries

The slow redox dynamics and dissolution of polysulfides in lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries result in poor rate performance and rapid decay of battery capacity,thus limiting their practical application.Ferroelectric barium titanate(BT)nanoparticles have been reported to effectively improve the electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries due to the inherent self-polarization and high adsorption capacity of the BT nanoparticles towards polysulfides.Here in this paper,BT nanoparticles,behave as highly efficient electrocatalyst and demonstrate much higher redox dynamics towards the conversion reaction of polysulfides and Li2S than TiO2,as shown by both electrochemical measurements and density functional theory calculation.The coupling of the sulfur host of the hollow and graphitic carbon flakes(HGCF)and the BT nanoparticles(HGCF/S-BT)enable excellent electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries,delivering a0.047%capacity decay per cycle in 1000 cycles at 1 C,788 mAh g^-1 at 2 C and a reversible capacity of613 mAh g^-1 after 300 cycles at a current density of 0.5 C at a S loading of 3.4 mg cm^-2.HGCF/S-BT also shows great promise for practical application in flexible devices as demonstrated on the soft-packaged Li-S batteries.

Multiporphyrinic architectures:Advances in structural design for photodynamic therapy

Rationally designed multiporphyrinic architectures for boosting photodynamic therapy(PDT)have attracted significant attentions recently years due to their great potential for light-mediated generation of reactive oxygen species.However,there is still a gap between the structure design and their PDT performance for biomedical applications.This tutorial review provides a historical overview on(i)the basic concept of PDT for deeply understanding the porphyrin-mediated PDT reactions,(ii)developing strategies for constructing porphyrinic architectures,like nanorings,boxes,metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),covalent-organic frameworks(COFs),vesicles,etc.,where we classified into the following three categories:multiporphyrin arrays,porphyrinic frameworks,and others porphyrin assemblies,(iii)the various application scenarios for clinical cancer therapy and antibacterial infection.Also,the existing challenges and future perspectives on the innovation of porphyrinic architectures for clinical PDT applications are mentioned in the end section.Moreover,the porphyrinic nanomaterials with atomically precise architectures provide an ideal platform for investigating the relationship between structures and PDT outputs,design of personalized“all-in-one”theranostic agents,and the popularization and application in wider biomedical fields.

Solvent extraction of thorium(Ⅳ) using W/O microemulsion

The extraction of thorium(IV) was investigated using two types of W/O microemulsion,one of which was formed by a surface-active saponified extractant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate(NaDEHP) and the other was formed by a mixture of an anionic surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate(AOT) and an extractant bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid(HDEHP) as the cosurfactant.The extraction capacities of the above two systems were higher than that of the HDEHP extraction system.High concentration of NaNO 3 showed no influence on the extraction in the NaDEHP based W/O microemulsion system,whilst reduced the extractability in the AOT-HDEHP W/O microemulsion system.The mechanism in acidic condition was demonstrated by the log-log plot method.The structure of the aggregations and the water content in the organic phase after extraction were measured by dynamic light scattering and Karl Fischer water titration,respectively.It was found that NaDEHP based W/O microemulsion broke up after extraction,while AOT-HDEHP W/O microemulsion was reserved.

Investigation on the extraction of strontium ions from aqueous phase using crown ether-ionic liquid systems

The extraction of strontium ions using DCH18C6 as the extractant and various ionic liquids(ILs) as solvents has been investigated.The distribution ratio of Sr2+ can reach as high as 103 under certain conditions,much larger than that in DCH18C6/n-octanol system.The extraction capacity depends greatly on the structure of ionic liquids.In Ils-based extraction systems,the extraction efficiency of strontium ions is reduced by increasing the concentration of nitric acid and can also be influenced directly by the presence of Na+ and K+ in the aqueous phase.It is confirmed that the extraction proceeds mainly via a cation-exchange mechanism.

Orthogonal Combinatorial Raman Codes Enable Rapid High-Throughput-Out Library Screening of Cell-Targeting Ligands

High-throughput assays play an important role in the fields of drug discovery,genetic analysis,and clinical diagnostics.Although super-capacity coding strategies may facilitate labeling and detecting large numbers of targets in a single assay,practically,the constructed large-capacity codes have to be decoded with complicated procedures or are lack of survivability under the required reaction conditions.This challenge results in either inaccurate or insufficient decoding outputs.Here,we identified chemical-resistant Raman compounds to build a combinatorial coding system for the high-throughput screening of cell-targeting ligands from a focused 8-mer cyclic peptide library.The accurate in situ decoding results proved the signal,synthetic,and functional orthogonality for this Raman coding strategy.The orthogonal Raman codes allowed for a rapid identification of 63 positive hits at one time,evidencing a high-throughput-out capability in the screening process.We anticipate this orthogonal Raman coding strategy being generalized to enable efficient high-throughput-out screening of more useful ligands for cell targeting and drug discovery.

Evolution of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Policies in China:A Grounded Theory Approach

Objective:This study aims to provide a theoretical foundation for the development and practical application of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS)prevention and control policy systems in China by scrutinizing,analyzing,and synthesizing the evolution of Chinese policies in this domain.Methods:Utilizing grounded theory,we employed NVivo12 software to perform text content analysis,mining,and coding classification,along with visualization techniques,on policy texts sourced from Chinese government platforms,including the official website of China’s State Council.We considered four analytical dimensions—time,subject,type,and object.Results:The National Health Commission and the State Council emerged as the primary entities engaged in policymaking for HIV/AIDS in China.We identified four distinct stages in the evolution of these policies,culminating in a novel‘sun-shaped’HIV/AIDS prevention and control policy network model with an emphasis on‘knowledge,attitude,and practice’at its nucleus,which aligns with national conditions and societal progress.Furthermore,the focal groups of these policies have been dynamically refined and updated over time.Conclusions:Our findings introduce a‘sunshaped’HIV/AIDS prevention and control policy network model specific to China.We observed a conceptual policy shift towards prioritizing overall human health rather than confining the focus to disease treatment.Additionally,in light of China’s growing elderly population,the imperative to address HIV/AIDS prevention and control among older adults is an issue that warrants increased attention.

Thermal and mechanical behavior of casting copper alloy wheel during wheel and belt continuous casting process

To investigate the thermal and mechanical behavior of casting wheel,a two-dimensional thermoelastic-plastic finite element model was used to predict the temperature,stress and distortion distribution of the casting wheel during the wheel and belt continuous casting process.The effects of grinding thickness and casting speed on the thermal and mechanical behaviors of the center of the hot face of the casting wheel were discussed in detail.In each rotation,the casting wheel passes through four different spray zones.The results show that the temperature distribution of the casting wheel in different spray zones is similar,the temperature of the hot face is the highest and the temperature reaches the peak in the spray zoneⅢ.The stress and distortion depend on the temperature distribution,and the maximum stress and distortion of the hot face are 358.2 MPa and 1.82 mm,respectively.The temperature at the center of the hot face decreases with increasing grinding thickness and increases with increasing casting speed.

The late Early-Paleozoic granitic magmatism in Northwestern Fujian, China: constraints on intraplate orogeny in the South China block

The Early Paleozoic tectono-thermal event was a significant orogenic activity during the Phanerozoic era,which had a profound impact on the early crust of the South China Block(SCB) and established the foundation for later tectonic activity.The Wuyi-Yunkai orogenic belt in Southeastern China was extensively exposed to Early Paleozoic magmatism,the genetic mechanism of which remains controversial.To shed light on this issue,detailed petrological,geochemical,and zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopic studies were carried out on two granitoids,namely the Yuntongshan pluton and the gaoqiao pluton,identified in the central Wuyishan.Zircon U-Pb chronology of the Yuntongshan and gaoqiao bodies yielded ages of437±4 Ma(MSWD=2.2) and 404±2 Ma(MSWD=12),respectively,indicating that they were emplaced during the Early Silurian and Early Devonian periods.These granitoids are primarily composed of biotite-granite and biotite-monzonitic-granites,with high concentrations of S_(i)O_(2)(73.59-75.91 wt%),K_(2)O+Na_(2)O(8.31-8.73wt%),and low contents of MgO,CaO,Cr,Ni.They are classified as high-K calc-alkaline and weakly metaluminous-strongly peraluminous S-type granites.These granitoids are enriched in light rare earth elements(LREEs) and large ion lithophile elements(LILEs) and depleted in heavy rare earth elements(HREEs) and high field strength elements(HFSEs) with arc affinity.The εHf(t) values of-3.3 to-15.4 with two-stage Hf model ages ranging from 2829 to 1644 Ma,combined with the presence of Neoproterozoic inherited zircons,suggest that the primary magma of these granitoids was derived from the partial melting of Neoproterozoic crust with a Paleoproterozoic crustal model age.These findings,combined with the spatio-temporal distribution of regional magmatism,reveal that the late Early-Paleozoic granitoids formed in the intraplate orogenic background originating from the subduction of the proto-Tethys Ocean and proto-Pacific Ocean around the margin of the east Gondwana supercontinent.
