Enhancing m^(6)A modification in the motor cortex facilitates corticospinal tract remodeling after spinal cord injury

Spinal cord injury typically causes corticospinal tract disruption. Although the disrupted corticospinal tract can self-regenerate to a certain degree, the underlying mechanism of this process is still unclear. N6-methyladenosine(m^(6)A) modifications are the most common form of epigenetic regulation at the RNA level and play an essential role in biological processes. However, whether m^(6)A modifications participate in corticospinal tract regeneration after spinal cord injury remains unknown. We found that expression of methyltransferase 14 protein(METTL14) in the locomotor cortex was high after spinal cord injury and accompanied by elevated m^(6)A levels. Knockdown of Mettl14 in the locomotor cortex was not favorable for corticospinal tract regeneration and neurological recovery after spinal cord injury. Through bioinformatics analysis and methylated RNA immunoprecipitation-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, we found that METTL14 regulated Trib2 expression in an m^(6)A-regulated manner, thereby activating the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway and promoting corticospinal tract regeneration. Finally, we administered syringin, a stabilizer of METTL14, using molecular docking. Results confirmed that syringin can promote corticospinal tract regeneration and facilitate neurological recovery by stabilizing METTL14. Findings from this study reveal that m^(6)A modification is involved in the regulation of corticospinal tract regeneration after spinal cord injury.

Statistics of gravity waves in the lower stratosphere over Beijing based on high vertical resolution radiosonde

The seasonal variation of inertia gravity-wave activity in the lower stratosphere (17―24 km) over Beijing is studied based on the high vertical resolution radionsonde observa- tions (from December 2001 to February 2003) of Beijing Observatory (116°28′E, 39°48′N). Some of the important gravity-wave parameters, such as intrinsic frequency, and propagation direction, are estimated according to the polarized relation among gravity-wave wind components and temperature. Time series of wave energy show that the largest wave amplitudes occur during the winter and the least during the summer, and the average of the KE:PE ratios is about 2.6. Zonal and meridional wind perturbations have almost the same roots of mean variances, which shows that the wave energy in the lower stratosphere is isotropic horizontally. The motion and tem- perature fields are dominated by waves with vertical wavelengths of 1.5―3 km, which occupy above 80% samples, with a mean value of about 2.3 km. The horizontal wavelengths are mainly distributed between 100―800 km, averaging 445 km. The ratio of the mean horizontal to vertical wavelength is about 200:1, which indicates that the wave propagates nearly horizontally, with a very small vertical angle. The intrinsic frequency is estimated by fitting a polarized ellipse to the wind perturbations after band-filtering waves with a wavelength of 1.5―3 km, and the results show that the intrinsic frequency is dominated by 1f―3.5f, with an averaging value of 2f, corre- sponding to an intrinsic time period of 9 hours. Wave energy is found to propagate mainly upward, and in the horizontal direction, there is clear azimuthal anisotropy, with predominate northwest propagation against the prevailing wind.

Nitrogen removal from summer to winter in a field pilot-scale multistage constructed wetland-pond system

A pilot-scale multistage constructed wetland-pond(MCWP)system with a"pre-ecological oxidation pond,two-stage horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland(HSCW)and surface flow constructed wetland(SFCW)as the core and postsubmerged plant pond"as the process was used to treat actual polluted river water in the field,and the variation in nitrogen removal from summer to winter was *** results showed that the average total nitrogen(TN)removal efficiency in the MCWP was approximately 40.74%.The significant positive correlation between the daily highest temperature and the TN removal efficiency of the whole system was fitted with a nonlinear curve(R^(2)=0.7192).The TN removal load rate in the HSCWs was 2.7–3.7 times that in the *** SFCW,which had high-density plants(35 plants/m^(2)),increased the proportion of nitrogen removed by plant harvesting and microbial *** TN transformed by Iris pseudacorus *** for 54.53%in the ***,bacteria completed the nitrogen cycle in the SFCW through a variety of nitrogen removal *** research not only investigated the TN removal performance in an MCWP system but also made it possible to predict the TN removal efficiency according to the daily highest temperature from summer to winter in the field.

Rational synthesis of carbon shell coated polyaniline/ MoS2 monolayer composites for high-performance supercapacitors

Conducting polymers generally show high specific capacitance but suffer from poor rate capability and rapid capacitance decary which greatly limits their practical applications in supercapacitor electrodes. To this end, many studies have focused on improving the overall capacitive performance by synthesizing nanostructured conducting polymers or by depositing a range of coatings to increase the active surface area exposed to the electrolyte and enhance the charge transport efficiency and structural stability. Despite this, simultaneously achieving high specific capacitance, good rate performance, and long cycle life remains a considerable challenge. Among the various two-dimensional （2D） layered materials, octahedral （1T） phase molybdenum disulfide （MoS2） nano- sheets have high electrical conductivity, large specific surface areas, and unique surface chemical characteristics, making them an interesting substrate for the controlled growth of nanostructured conducting polymers. This paper reports the rational synthesis of carbon shell-coated polyaniline （PANI） grown on 1T MoS2 monolayers （MoS2/PANI@C）. The composite electrode comprised of MoS2/ PANI@C with a -3 nm carbon shell exhibited a remarkable specific capacitance of up to 678 F-g-1 （1 mV.s-1）, superior capacity retention of 80% after 10,000 cycles and good rate performance （81% at 10 mV.s-1） due to the multiple synergic effects between the PANI nanostructure and 1T MoS2 substrates as well as protection by the uniform thin carbon shell. These properties are comparable to the best overall capacitive performance achieved for conducting polymers-based supercapacitor electrodes reported thus far.

Effects of Buffer Layer on Hetero-Epi-Growth of SiCGe on 6H-SiC

Growth of SiCGe ternary alloy on 6H-SiC in a conventional hot-wall CVD system was initially studied. SiH4, GeH4 and C3H8 were employed as silicon, germanium and carbon source, respectively, while H2 was employed as the carrier gas. To reduce the heavy lattice mismatch between the film and the substrate, a 3C-SiC buffer layer was inserted between them in a CVD process. Optimizing the growth conditions was discussed. The samples were measured by means of SEM, SAXRD (Small Angle X-Ray Diffraction). It is shown that use of the 3C-SiC buffer layer is an effective way to improve the quality of the ternary alloy.

Effects of hydrothermal temperature on formation and decoloration characteristics of anatase TiO_2 nanoparticles

This paper describes the effects of temperature on the complex intermediate processes from the precursor to the fully-crystallized anatase TiO2 nanoparticles in hydrothermal synthesis. The anatase TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized in a wide temperature range below 230°C. The composition, morphology, and methylene blue (MB) decoloration characteristics of the obtained products were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscope, and scanning and transmission electron microscope. The dehydrating polycondensation of Ti(IV)-hydrates and the decomposition of (NH4)2Ti3O7 intermediates with the temperature increase lead to the direct formation of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles under the hydrothermal environments. The strong MB decoloration of the hydrothermal products obtained at the low (≤130°C) and high (≥180°C) temperatures are attributed to the adsorption of Ti(IV)-hydrates and the photocatalysis of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles, respectively.

In-situ polymerized nanosilica/acrylic/epoxy hybrid coating:Preparation,microstructure and properties

An in-situ polymerization method was employed to synthesize the nanosilica/acrylic/epoxy (SAE) hybrid coating on AISI 430 stainless steel (430SS), as compared with a traditional blending method. Mi- crostructures of the blending SAE hybrid coating (BC) and in-situ SAE hybrid coating (ISC) were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Corrosion resistance of BC and ISC on 430SS was evaluated by the neutral salt spray test and potentiodynamic polarization technique. Failure mechanism of the BC on 430SS was suggested by the microstructures and corrosion behaviors. Serious aggregation of nanosilica particles in the BC impairs its structural uniformity and induces the flaws formation. These flaws in the BC initiates the failures of pitting, filiform corrosion and peeling which are accelerated by the O2 concentration cell and H+ self-catalysis in chlorine-containing moist environments. The ISC-coated 430SS shows a more advantageous corrosion resistance than that of the BC-coated. The ISC-coated 430SS can suffer the salt spray over 1000 h. Besides, it exhibits a high corrosion potential beyond 0.925 V and good passivation characteristics during the potentiodynamic polarization.

The anode-free design is a promising strategy to increase the energy density of aqueous Zn metal batteries(AZMBs).However,the scarcity of Zn-rich cathodes and the rapid loss of limited Zn greatly hinder their commercial *** address these issues,a novel anode-free Zniodine battery(AFZIB)was designed via a simple,low-cost and scalable *** plays bifunctional roles in improving the AFZIB overall performance:enabling high-performance Zn-rich cathode and modulating Zn deposition *** the cathode side,the ZnI_(2) serves as Zn-rich cathode *** graphene/polyvinyl pyrrolidone heterostructure was employed as an efficient host for ZnI_(2) to enhance electron conductivity and suppress the shuttle effect of iodine *** the anode side,trace I_(3)^(−) additive in the electrolyte creates surface reconstruction on the commercial Cu *** in situ formed zincophilic Cu nanocluster allows ultralow-overpotential and uniform Zn deposition and superior reversibility(average coulombic efficiency>99.91% over 7,000 cycles).Based on such a configuration,AFZIB exhibits significantly increased energy density(162 Wh kg^(−1)) and durable cycle stability(63.8% capacity retention after 200 cycles)under practical application *** the low cost and simple preparation methods of the electrode materials,this work paves the way for the practical application of AZMBs.
