Quantitative evaluation of air pollution in transport strategic environmental assessment:a case study based on uncertainty analysis and graphic information system technology

Although the impact of road transport on urban air quality has achieved a high profile in China,still greater attention is required as it has not yet been considered fully even in relation to the road network linking cities and urban areas. Strategic environmental assessment (SEA) is a systematic and comprehensive process for evaluating the environmental impacts of a policy,plan or program in publicly accountable decision-making. Air pollution has been recognized as a significant issue in most transport SEA practices. The Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Hubei Road Network Plan (2002-2020) (HRNP) was introduced as one of the World Bank's pilot SEA projects. An effective framework was developed to investigate the functional relationship between the road network and its potential air pollutant emissions. In this study,two indicators were identified:emission intensity/ inventory of pollutants and the spatial distribution of the most polluted areas. Because strategic actions are inherently nebulous and data quality is often disappointing,three alternative scenarios were employed to address uncertainties and data/scale issues. Calculations were made using emission models and results were analyzed with the help of statistical tools and the geographic information system (GIS). The results from the project implementation and the feedback from the World Bank have both shown that the proposed framework is effective in the transport SEA process.

Characteristic changes in astrocyte properties during astrocyte-to-neuron conversion induced by NeuroD1/Ascl1/Dlx2

Direct in vivo conversion of astrocytes into functional new neurons induced by neural transcription factors has been recognized as a potential new therapeutic intervention for neural injury and degenerative disorders. However, a few recent studies have claimed that neural transcription factors cannot convert astrocytes into neurons, attributing the converted neurons to pre-existing neurons mis-expressing transgenes. In this study, we overexpressed three distinct neural transcription factors––NeuroD1, Ascl1, and Dlx2––in reactive astrocytes in mouse cortices subjected to stab injury, resulting in a series of significant changes in astrocyte properties. Initially, the three neural transcription factors were exclusively expressed in the nuclei of astrocytes. Over time, however, these astrocytes gradually adopted neuronal morphology, and the neural transcription factors was gradually observed in the nuclei of neuron-like cells instead of astrocytes. Furthermore,we noted that transcription factor-infected astrocytes showed a progressive decrease in the expression of astrocytic markers AQP4(astrocyte endfeet signal), CX43(gap junction signal), and S100β. Importantly, none of these changes could be attributed to transgene leakage into preexisting neurons. Therefore, our findings suggest that neural transcription factors such as NeuroD1, Ascl1, and Dlx2 can effectively convert reactive astrocytes into neurons in the adult mammalian brain.

BACKGROUND Primary squamous cell carcinoma(SCC)of the renal parenchyma is extremely rare,with only nine cases *** SUMMARY This study reports a 51-year-old man with primary SCC of the renal *** patient was admitted with recurrent dull pain and discomfort in the right lumbar region,which had worsened over 2 weeks,accompanied by painful gross *** antigen(SCCA)levels were elevated,and imaging revealed a renal mass with associated *** patient underwent laparoscopic unilateral nephrectomy and lymph node *** pathology confirmed highly differentiated SCC with necrosis in the right renal parenchyma,with negative renal pelvis and *** pathological stage was *** months after surgery,the tumor recurred with involvement of the liver,right psoas major muscle,and inferior vena *** patient refused chemotherapy and succumbed to the disease 6 months postoperatively due to disease *** We report a case of primary SCC of the renal parenchyma,a rare renal *** clinical symptoms,laboratory tests,and imaging findings are nonspecific,making accurate and timely diagnosis *** to the literature,for patients with renal calculi accompanied by a renal mass,elevated serum SCCA levels,and magnetic resonance imaging showing cystic or cystic-solid masses within the kidney with pseudocapsules and heterogeneous mild enhancement,the possibility of this disease should be considered.

Postoperative early rehabilitation training for supracondylar fracture of femur aids in accelerating the healing of fractures with shorter recovery periods. Presently, clinical studies on post-operative early weight training are still in the nascent stages. The weight bearing capacity at different healing stages typically depends on clinical experience and there is a lack of standards to quantify the weight that would be conducive to the healing of fractures. In this paper, a 3D geometric model of the femur is obtained using imaging data, a locking plate fixation model of a simple supracondylar fracture of the femur, which considers the angle and spatial direction of the fracture surface, is established, the stress distribution and load transmission mechanism of the fracture fixation model on a single leg standing posture are studied and the weight bearing capacity of a standing single leg at the early stage of fracture is given. This provides the basis for objective quantification of postoperative early weight bearing capacity.

We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

Quark jet versus gluon jet: fully-connected neural networks with high-level features

Jet identification is one of the fields in high energy physics that machine learning has begun to make an impact. More often than not, convolutional neural networks are used to classify jet images with the benefit that essentially no physics input is *** by a recent work by Datta and Larkoski, we study the classification of quark/gluon-initiated jets based on fully-connected neural networks(FNNs), where expert-designed physical variables are taken as input. FNNs are applied in two ways: trained separately on various narrow jet transverse momentum pTJbins;trained on a wide region of pTJ∈[200, 1000] GeV. We find their performances are almost the same. The performance is better when the pTJis larger. Jet discrimination with FNN is studied on both particle and detector level data. The results based on particle level data are comparable with those from deep convolutional neural networks, while the significance improvement characteristic(SIC) from detector level data would at most decrease by 15%.We also test the performance of FNNs with the full set or subsets of jet observables as input features. The FNN with one subset consisting of fourteen observables shows nearly no degradation of performance. This indicates that these fourteen expert-designed observables could have captured the most necessary information for separating quark and gluon jets.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of 7A56 aluminum alloy after solution treatment

The effect of solution treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a novel 7 A56 aluminum alloy plate was investigated by optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),conductivity,hardness and tensile *** results indicate that the coarse second phases in the hot-rolled plate mainly consist of AlZnMgCu quaternary phase and Al_(7) Cu_(2) Fe phase,and no Al_(2) CuMg phase is *** amount of the second phases gradually reduces with the increase in temperature(450-480℃)and time(1-8 h)during the solution treatment,and the soluble particles are completely dissolved into the matrix after solution treatment at 470℃for 4 h,while the residual phases are mainly Fe-rich phase along the grain *** recrystallization fraction of the alloy gradually increases with the degree of solution treatment *** the temperature exceeds480℃,over-burning takes *** mechanical properties of samples treated at 470℃for various times were *** the solution treated at 470℃for 4 h,the quenching conductivity and peak-aged hardness of the alloy are 30.8%IACS and HV 204,*** ultimate tensile strength and yield strength of the samples aged at 120℃for 24 h are 661 and 588 MPa,respectively.

Visualization Experiments of a Specific Fuel Flow Through Quartz-glass Tubes Under both Sub- and Supercritical Conditions

The present work is a visualization study of a typical kerosene （RP-3） flowing through vertical and horizontal quartz-glass tubes under both sub- and supercritical conditions by a high speed camera. The experiments are accomplished at temperatures of 300-730 K under pressures from 0.107-5 MPa. Six distinctive two-phase flow patterns are observed in upward flow and the critical point of RP-3 is identified as critical pressure pc=2.33 MPa and critical temperature Tc=645.04 K and it is found that when the fluid pressure exceeds 2.33 MPa the flow can be considered as a single phase flow. The critical opalescence phenomenon of RP-3 is observed when the temperature is between 643.16 K and 648.61 K and the pressure is between 2.308 MPa and 2.366 MPa. The region filled by the critical opalescence in the upward flow is clearly larger than that in the downward flow due to the interaction between the buoyancy force and fluid inertia. Morecover, obvious layered flow phenomenon is observed in horizontal flow under supercritical pressures due to the differences of gravity and density.
