Experimental and numerical investigations on wave motions over platform reef-flat

Previous studies have shown that high-frequency(HF)waves,low-frequency(LF)waves and wave set-up coexist on shallow coral reef-flat and jointly contribute to potential floods and subsequent damages of infrastructures and islands on *** better understand the reef-flat wave dynamics with incident waves and still water level,a wave-flume experiment was performed based on an idealized platform reef composed of a steep reef-face(1:4),a relatively mild reef-rim(1:14)and a horizontal ***,the non-hydrostatic phase-resolving model SWASH was validated against the experiment and then applied to further numerically investigate the effects of reef-rim topographic features on the reef-flat wave *** results show that incident waves of a larger wave height and a longer wave period can generate larger LF waves and wave set-up,thereby inducing greater HF waves on the *** still water level can lead to larger HF waves but result in smaller wave *** contrast to HF waves and wave set-up,LF waves are minimally affected by the still water level.A rim of milder slope and larger edge depth will induce smaller HF and LF waves and set-up on the reef-flat,and thus provide better protection for the reef-flat ***,on the reef-flat,the ratio of HF significant wave height to water depth H_(s_h)/(h_(r)+η^(-))is approximately constant;the dimensionless LF significant wave height Hs_l/H_(s0) and the dimensionless wave set-upη^(-)/[T_(p)(gH_(s0))1/2]can be related to the inverse wave steepness parameter gT_(p)^(2)/H_(s0) and the relative reef-flat submergence(h_(r)+η^(-))/H_(s0) respectively.

FedFV: A Personalized Federated Learning Framework for Finger Vein Authentication

Most finger vein authentication systems suffer from the problem of small sample ***,the data augmentation can alleviate this problem to a certain extent but did not fundamentally solve the problem of category *** the researchers resort to pre-training or multi-source data joint training methods,but these methods will lead to the problem of user privacy *** view of the above issues,this paper proposes a federated learning-based finger vein authentication framework(FedFV)to solve the problem of small sample size and category diversity while protecting user *** training under FedFV,each client can share the knowledge learned from its user′s finger vein data with the federated client without causing template *** addition,we further propose an efficient personalized federated aggregation algorithm,named federated weighted proportion reduction(FedWPR),to tackle the problem of non-independent identically distribution caused by client diversity,thus achieving the best performance for each *** thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of FedFV,comprehensive experiments are conducted on nine publicly available finger vein *** results show that FedFV can improve the performance of the finger vein authentication system without directly using other client *** the best of our knowledge,FedFV is the first personalized federated finger vein authentication framework,which has some reference value for subsequent biometric privacy protection research.

Numerical simulation of typhoon-induced storm surge along Jiangsu coast,PartⅡ:Calculation of storm surge

The Jiangsu coastal area is located in central-eastern China and is well known for complicated dynamics with large-scale radial sand ridge systems. It is therefore a challenge to simulate typhoon-induced storm surges in this area. In this study, a two-dimensional astronomical tide and storm surge coupling model was established to simulate three typical types of typhoons in the area. The Holland parameter model was used to simulate the wind field and wind pressure of the typhoon and the Japanese 55-year reanalysis data were added as the background wind field. The offshore boundary information was provided by an improved Northwest Pacific Ocean Tide Model. Typhoon-induced storm surges along the Jiangsu coast were calculated based on analysis of wind data from 1949 to 2013 and the spatial distribution of the maximum storm surge levels with different types of typhoons, providing references for the design of sea dikes and planning for control of coastal disasters.

Comparisons of{100}texture improvement and formability in hot-rolled non-oriented electrical steel by austenite-ferrite phase transformation and shear deformation

Over the years,the high magnetic induction of industrial Mn-added electrical steel is assumed to be the enhancement of{100}texture derived from its austenite-ferrite phase transformation during hot rolling(phase transformation(PT)method).However,it is still undetermined without straightforward experimental *** reason for{100}texture improvement of Mn-added electrical steel is experimentally confirmed due to the recrystallization induced by the austenite-ferrite phase transformation during hot ***,a more promising methodology to further improve{100}texture and formability of hot-rolled electrical steel is promoted by the control of hot rolling deformation condition(shear deformation(SD)method).The results show that the nucleation mechanisms of{100}oriented recrystallized grains are different in the samples by SD and PT methods,which are in-depth shear deformation and austenite-ferrite phase transformation,*** this case,coarse{100}oriented recrystallized grains and low residual stress are obtained in the sample by SD method,which is responsible for its superior{100}texture and *** contrast,the sample by PT method forms fine recrystallized grains with random orientations and accumulates severe residual stress.

Spectral Characteristics of Edge Electrostatic Turbulence in the HL-2A Tokamak

A three-tip array is used in the HL-2A tokamak to investigate the spectral characteristics of electrostatic turbulence inside the last closed flux surface （LCFS） about 5 cm. Two-point correlation techniques are used to analysis the turbulence structure. It is found that the drift wave turbulence mainly is composed of low-frequency and long wavelength wave packets. The poloidal propagation is mainly in electron-diamagnetic direction, sometimes it propagates in ion-diamagnetic direction, which is influenced by Doppler-frequency shift. The radial propagation velocity is outward and the sizeable fraction of the poloidal velocity, implying that the radial mode plays an important role in the cross field transport.

A Novel Algorithm for Microcirculation Image Enhancement

Microcirculation images often have low quality in acquisition process, which affect the following steps of process. This paper introduces enhancement algorithm based on nonsubsampled Contourlet transform (NSCT). It analyzes the characteristics of the microcirculation images generated, and separates microcirculation images to light weight and the reflection weight. It also analyzes the construction method on NSCT and proves that this method can be applied on microcirculation image enhancement algorithm. To correct light weight of microcirculation image and obtain enhancement image the enhancement microcirculation image was not only superior to the original image visually, but also improved objective data obviously. The algorithms provide a new method to microcirculation image pre-processing and guide the latter steps of the image processing.

Exit options sustain altruistic punishment and decrease the second-order free-riders, but it is not a panacea

Why do humans punish free riders at their own expense? This behavior represents an evolutionary puzzle in human societies. This study explores the role of exit strategies in fostering altruistic punishment within evolutionary game theory. We extend the traditional prisoner's dilemma model by incorporating exiters, players who opt out for a small payoff while nullifying their opponent's payoff, and altruistic punishers who cooperate and punish non-cooperators. Our findings indicate that in well-mixed populations, exiters destabilize defection but do not promote altruistic punishment. In social networks, however,exiters enable altruistic punishment via cyclic dominance among altruistic punishers, defectors, and exiters. Notably, this cyclic dominance is sensitive to exit payoffs; adjustments can lead to cyclic dominance of non-punishing cooperators, defectors, and exiters, or to a bi-stable state between these two types of cyclic dominance. These results highlight the nuanced impact of exiters on altruistic punishment, emphasizing the need for careful incentivization of exit behavior. While exiters can support altruistic punishment in networked populations, their effectiveness is not a panacea and is highly sensitive to exit payoffs, indicating limits to the voluntary participation mechanism.
