A Geometry-Based Point Cloud Reduction Method for MobileAugmented Reality System

In this paper, a geometry-based point cloud reduction method is proposed, and a real-time mobile augmentedreality system is explored for applications in urban environments. We formulate a new objective function which combinesthe point reconstruction errors and constraints on spatial point distribution. Based on this formulation, a mixed integerprogramming scheme is utilized to solve the points reduction problem. The mobile augmented reality system explored inthis paper is composed of the ofttine and online stages. At the offline stage, we build up the localization database usingstructure from motion and compress the point cloud by the proposed point cloud reduction method. While at the onlinestage, we compute the camera pose in real time by combining an image-based localization algorithm and a continuous posetracking algorithm. Experimental results on benchmark and real data show that compared with the existing methods, thisgeometry-based point cloud reduction method selects a point cloud subset which helps the image-based localization methodto achieve higher success rate. Also, the experiments conducted on a mobile platform show that the reduced point cloud notonly reduces the time consuming for initialization and re-initialization, but also makes the memory footprint small, resultinga scalable and real-time mobile augmented reality system.

Background Ischemic postconditioning （I-postC） is a newly discovered and more amenable cardioprotective strategy capable of protecting the myocardium from ischemia/reperfusion （I/R） injury. Endoplasmic reticulum （ER） is a principal site for secretary protein synthesis and calcium storage. Myocardial I/R causes ER stress and emerging studies suggest that the cardioprotection has been linked to the modulation of ER stress. The aim of the present study was to determine whether cardioprotection of I-postC involves reduction in ER stress through calcineurin pathway. Methods In the in vivo model of rat myocardial I/R, myocardial infarct size was measured by triphenyltetrazolium chloride （TTC） staining and apoptosis was detected using terminal eoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick-end labeling （TUNEL） assay. Expression of calreticulin, C/EBP homologous protein （CHOP）, caspase-12, and activation of caspase-12 in myocardium were detected by Western blotting. The activity and expression of calcineurin in myocardium were also detected. Results I-postC protected the I/R heart against apoptosis, myocardial infarction, and leakage of lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） and creatine kinase-MB （CK-MB）. I-postC suppressed I/R-induced ER stress, as shown by a decrease in the expression of calreticulin and CHOP, and caspase-12 activation. I-postC downregulated calcineurin activation in myocardium subjected to I/R. Conclusion I-postC protects myocardium from I/R injury by suppressing ER stress and calcineurin pathways are not associated with the I-postC-induced suppression of ER stress-related apoptosis.

Background A model of simulated Alzheimer＇s disease （AD） induced by aggregated amyloid protein （Aβ1-40） was built in Wister rats to observe the behavioral and pathological changes of Aβ1-40 and the effect of hypodermic insulin injected on the function of study and memory and the expression of Aβ1-40 from the CA1 area of the hippocampus. Methods Experimental groups were as follows： contrast, simulated AD model, contrast of Nacl, and insulin treated. The simulated AD model was built by microinjection of aggregated Aβ1-40 at the CA1 area of the hippocampus, and was hypodermically injected with 0.9% NaCI （1 ml/kg） and insulin （0.1 U/kg） separately the next day. Two weeks after the modeling, the four groups were tested with water maze about the study and memory function of rats. Three weeks after the injection, the expression of Aβ1-40 at the CA1 area of the hippocampus was examined by pathological tests （HE, Congo red） and immunohistochemical methods. Results The study and memory abilities of rats were ameliorated significantly by the place navigation test and the spatial probe test after the application of insulin. Insulin could decrease the expression of Aβ1-40 at the CA1 area of the hippocampus to reduce the pathological damage of Aβ1-40 to the hippocampal area of rats. Conclusions The injection of aggregated Aβ1-40 to the hippocampal area could simulate the behavioral and pathological features of AD such as the difficulty of study and memory and the damage to neurons. Insulin is effective to improve the function of study and memory and amend the pathological damage of simulated AD model rats. The results give a experimental proof of insulin in the clinical treatment of AD.

The estimation of pain intensity is critical for medical diagnosis and treatment of *** the development of image monitoring technology and artificial intelligence,automatic pain assessment based on facial expression and behavioral analysis shows a potential value in clinical *** paper reports a framework of convolutional neural network with global and local attention mechanism(GLA-CNN)for the effective detection of pain intensity at four-level thresholds using facial expression ***-CNN includes two modules,namely global attention network(GANet)and local attention network(LANet).LANet is responsible for extracting representative local patch features of faces,while GANet extracts whole facial features to compensate for the ignored correlative features between *** the end,the global correlational and local subtle features are fused for the final estimation of pain *** under the UNBC-McMaster Shoulder Pain database demonstrate that GLA-CNN outperforms other state-of-the-art ***,a visualization analysis is conducted to present the feature map of GLA-CNN,intuitively showing that it can extract not only local pain features but also global correlative facial *** study demonstrates that pain assessment based on facial expression is a non-invasive and feasible method,and can be employed as an auxiliary pain assessment tool in clinical practice.

A newly developed digital data acquisition system,which is based on the digital pulse processor Pixie-16 modules by XIA LLC,was tested with the c-ray detector array of the China Institute of Atomic Energy using the cray source and in-beam c-rays.A comparison between this digital data acquisition system and the conventional analog data acquisition system was *** a low count rate,both systems exhibit good and comparable energy *** a high count rate above 8.8 k/s,while the energy resolution obtained by the analog system deteriorates significantly,the energy resolution obtained by the digital system is nearly ***,experimental data with higher statistics can be collected by the digital *** advantage of this digital system over the conventional analog system can be ascribed to its excellent capability of handling pile-up pulses at higher count rates,and the fact that it has nearly no dead time in data transmission and conversion.

This work shows details of an evaluation of an observational system comprising a complementary metal-oxidesemiconductor detector, 60 cm telescope and filter complement. The system’s photometric precision and differential photometric precision, and extinction coefficients were assessed through observations of Supersky flat fields, open clusters, standard stars and exoplanets. Photometry was precision achieved at the 0.02 mag level, with differential photometry of 0.004 mag precision. Extinction was found to agree with previous studies conducted at Xinglong Observatory. Ultimately, the results demonstrate this observing system is capable of precision scientific observations with a charge-coupled device across the optical wavelengths.

A particle detector array designed for light-charged particles, known as the CsI-bowl, was built for exit channel selection for in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy experiments. This device is composed of 64 CsI(Tl) detectors, organized in a structure reminiscent of a tea-bowl. High quantum efficiency photodiodes, characterized by their minimal mass, were employed to collect scintillation light. Its design, construction, particle identification resolution, and its effectiveness in relation to exit channel selection are described in this paper. In source tests, the optimal figure of merit for the identification of α-particles and γ-rays using the charge comparison method was found to be 3.3 and 12.1 for CsI detectors coupled to photodiodes and avalanche photodiodes, respectively. The CsI-bowl demonstrated effectiveness in identifying particles, specifically the emission of protons and α-particles in the58Ni(19F, xpyn) fusion–evaporation reaction, thereby enabling the selection of the desired exit channels.
