Screening of Amaranth Cultivars(Amaranthus mangostanus L.) for Cadmium Hyperaccumulation

The potential harm of soil cadmium pollution to ecological environment and human health has been increasingly widely concerned. Phytoremediation, as a kind of new and effective technology, has become an important method for cleaning up cadmium in contaminated sites. The amaranth （Amaranthus mangostanus L.） is widely distributed and has abundant varieties in China, its rapid growth and large biomass can be served as candidate for cadmium hyperaccumulators for phytoremediation. To obtain cadmium hyper-accumulator, Cd uptake in 23 amaranth cultivars from different ecological region was investigated under hydroponic culture condition. Meanwhile, pot experiment was established to probe phytoremediation potentiality of Cd contaminated soil by amaranth. Three treatment （Cd 5, 10, and 25 mg kg^-1） were imposed to red soil, yellow brown soil, and vegetable soil. The results showed that under hydroponic culture with Cd 3 mg L^-1, the cadmium concentration in the shoots of the cultivar Tianxingmi reached 260 mg kg^-1, and its total cadmium uptake was the highest among various cultivars. In the treatment Cd 25 mg kg^-1, the cadmium concentration in the shoots of the cultivar Tianxingmi reached 212 mg kg^-1, while bioaccumulation factor and shoot purification rate reached 8.50 and 3.8%, respectively. Further, the total biomass and shoot biomass were not decreased significantly under Cd exposure. These results suggested that cultivar Tianxingmi is a typical Cd hyperaccumulator, and can be expected to be used in phytoremediation of Cd contaminated soil.

A Meta-analysis on the clinical efficacy and safety of optic capture in pediatric cataract surgery

AIM： To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of optic capture in pediatric cataract surgery.·METHODS： Searches of peer-reviewed literature were conducted in Pub Med, Embase and the Cochrane Library. The search terms were ＂optic capture＂ and ＂cataract＂. The retrieval period ended in December *** randomized controlled trials（RCTs）, case-control studies and cohort studies were included. Meta-analyses were performed. Pooled weighted mean differences and risk ratios with 95% confidence intervals were estimated.· RESULTS： Ten studies involving 282 eyes were included, 5 of which were RCTs involving 194 eyes. The application of optic capture significantly reduced both opacification of the visual axis（RR： 0.12; 95% CI： 0.02 to0.85; P =0.03） and occurrence of geometric decentration（RR： 0.09; 95% CI： 0.02 to 0.46; P =0.004）. But it did not significantly affect best corrected visual acuity（BCVA）（WMD：-0.01; 95% CI：-0.07 to 0.05; P =0.75） and influence the occurrence of posterior synechia（RR： 1.53;95% CI： 0.84 to 2.77; P =0.17）. Deposits in the anterior intraocular lens were significantly increased in the optic capture group early after surgery（RR： 1.40; 95% CI： 1.05 to 1.86; P =0.02） and at the last follow-up（RR： 2.30;95% CI： 1.08 to 4.92; P =0.03）. The quality of the evidence was assessed as high.· CONCLUSION： The application of optic capture significantly reduces opacification of visual axis and occurrence of geometric decentration but do not significantly improve BCVA with notable safety.

Double-detonation model of type Ia supernovae with a variable helium layer ignition mass

Although Type Ia supernovae （SNe Ia） play an important role in the study of cosmology, their progenitors are still poorly understood. Thermonuclear explosions from the helium double-detonation sub-Chandrasekhar mass model have been considered as an alternative method for producing SNe Ia. By adopting the assumption that a double detonation occurs when a He layer with a critical ignition mass accumulates on the surface of a carbon-oxygen white dwarf （CO WD）, we perform detailed binary evolution calculations for the He double-detonation model, in which a He layer from a He star accumulates on a CO WD. According to these calculations, we obtain the initial parameter spaces for SNe Ia in the orbital period and secondary mass plane for various initial WD masses. We implement these results into a detailed binary population synthesis approach to calculate SN Ia birthrates and delay times. From this model, the SN Ia birthrate in our Galaxy is ～0.4 - 1.6 × 10^-3 yr^-1. This indicates that the double-detonation model only produces part of the SNe la. The delay times from this model are ～ 70 - 710 Myr, which contribute to the young population of SNe Ia in the observations. We found that the CO WD ＋ sdB star system CD-30 11223 could produce an SN Ia via the double-detonation model in its future evolution.

We obtained TiNiSn-based half-Heusler Hf_(x)Ti_(1-x)NiSn_(0.97)Sb_(0.03)bulks with 85%-96%relative densities via 5-min microwave synthesis and 20-min microwave sintering in sealed *** phase composition and microstructure of samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometer(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Thermoelectric(TE)properties were measured,i.e.,Seebeck coefficient(S),electrical resistivity(ρ),and thermal conductivity(κ)through Seebeck coefficient/resistance analysis system(S/RAs)and laser flash thermal analyzer(LFT).The results show that the nearly single phase exists after microwave *** grain sizes and the number of grain boundaries decrease with increase in Hf-doping amount due to an increase in point *** matrix grains for Hf_(0.1)Ti_(0.9)NiSn_(0.97)Sb_(0.03)are~10μ*** nanoscle pores and precipitates are present as second phases in matrix *** real composition for Hf_(0.1)Ti_(0.9)NiSn_(0.97)Sb_(0.03)matrix grain is Hf_(3.51)Ti_(28.76)-Ni_(34.76)Sn_(31.55)Sb_(1.43).The variation trends of electrical resistivity,Seebeck coefficient,power factor,and thermal conductivity were analyzed in *** maximum figure of merit(ZT)of 0.46 is obtained for Hf_(0.1)Ti_(0.9-)NiSnSn_(0.97)Sb_(0.03)at 723 *** innovation route exhibits advantages for predation of TE bulks when compared to the conventional methods,especially in terms of efficiency while it still maintains TE performance.

Hybrid algorithm for accelerating the double series of Floquet vector modes

In this paper, a hybrid algorithm for accelerating the double series of Floquet vector modes arising in the analysis of frequency selective surfaces （FSS） is presented. The asymptotic terms with slow convergence in the double series are first accelerated by Poisson transformation and Ewald method, and then the remained series is accelerated by Shank transformation. It results in significant savings in memory and computing time. Numerical examples verify the validity of the hybrid acceleration algorithm.

Accreting He-rich material onto carbon-oxygen white dwarfs until explosive carbon ignition

Type Ia supernovae （SNe Ia） play an important role in studies of cosmology and galactic chemi- cal evolution. They are believed to be thermonuclear explosions of carbon-oxygen white dwarfs （CO WDs） when their masses approach the Chandrasekar （Ch） mass limit. However, it is still not completely under- stood how a CO WD increases its mass to the Ch-mass limit in the classical single-degenerate （SD） model. In this paper, we studied the mass accretion process in the SD model to examine whether the WD can explode as an SN Ia. Employing the stellar evolution code called modules for experiments in stellar as- trophysics （MESA）, we simulated the He accretion process onto CO WDs. We found that the WD can increase its mass to the Ch-mass limit through the SD model and explosive carbon ignition finally occurs in its center, which will lead to an SN Ia explosion. Our results imply that SNe Ia can be produced from the SD model through steady helium accretion. Moreover, this work can provide initial input parameters for explosion models of SNe Ia.

Is the X-ray pulsating companion of HD 49798 a possible type Ia supernova progenitor?

HD 49798（a hydrogen depleted subdwarf O6 star） with its massive white dwarf（WD） companion has been suggested to be a progenitor candidate of a type Ia supernova（SN Ia）. However, it is still uncertain whether the companion of HD 49798 is a carbon-oxygen（CO） WD or an oxygen-neon（ONe） WD. A CO WD will explode as an SN Ia when its mass grows and approaches the Chandrasekhar limit, but the outcome of an accreting ONe WD is likely to be a neutron star. We generated a series of Monte Carlo calculations that incorperate binary population synthesis to simulate the formation of ONe WD ＋ He star systems. We found that there is almost no orbital period as large as HD 49798 with its WD companion in these ONe WD ＋ He star systems based on our simulations, which means that the companion of HD 49798 might not be an ONe WD. We suggest that the companion of HD 49798 is most likely a CO WD, which can be expected to increase its mass to the Chandrasekhar limit by accreting He-rich material from HD 49798. Thus, HD 49798 and its companion may produce an SN Ia as a result of its future evolution.

Effect of δ Phase on Mechanical Properties of GH4169 Alloy at Room Temperature

Tensile tests of GH4169 alloy were performed at room temperature. Different fractions, distributions and shapes of δ phase was prepared by aging treated at 880 ℃, 930 ℃ and 980 ℃ for 5 h or 10 h. The effect of δ phase on the mechanical pro- perties of GH4169 alloy was investigated. The results show that 0.2% yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of GH4169 alloy increase by 61 MPa and 78 MPa respectively when the fraction of δ phase increases from 2.20% to 5.21%. Then, the ultimate tensile strength remains at 1 012 MPa even when the fraction of δ phase reaches 7.56%. The fraction effect of δ phase on the strength improvement of GH4169 alloy is more significant than morphology, and the critical fraction value is 5.21%. In addition, the elongation decreases by 14.1% when the fraction of δ phase increases from 2.20% to 7.56%. Excessive needle or short rod shaped 8 ohase is resoonsible for the reduction of eloneation.

Binary population synthesis for the core-degenerate scenario of type Ia supernova progenitors

The core-degenerate （CD） scenario has been suggested to be a possible progenitor model of type Ia supernovae （SNe Ia）, in which a carbon-oxygen white dwarf merges with the hot CO core of a massive asymptotic giant branch star dur- ing their common-envelope phase. However, the SN Ia birthrates for this scenario are still uncertain. We conducted a detailed investigation into the CD scenario and then gave the birthrates for this scenario using a detailed Monte Carlo binary pop- ulation synthesis approach. We found that the delay times of SNe Ia from this sce- nario are -70 Myr- 1400 Myr, which means that the CD scenario contributes to young SN Ia populations. The Galactic SN Ia birthrates for this scenario are in the range of ~7.4×10^-5 yr^-1- 3.7 × 10^-4 yr^-1, which roughly accounts for -2%-10% of all SNe Ia. This indicates that, under the assumptions made here, the CD scenario only contributes a small portion of all SNe Ia, which is not consistent with the results of Ilkov ＆ Soker.
