X-ray Emission Lines in GRB Afterglows: Evidence for a Two-component Jet Model

X-ray emission lines have been observed in X-ray afterglows of several T-ray bursts （GRBs）. It is a major breakthrough for understanding the nature of the progenitors. It has been proposed that the X-ray emission lines can be well explained by the Geometry-Dominated models, but in these models the illuminat- ing angle is much larger than that of the collimated jet of the GRB. For GRB 011211, we have obtained an illuminating angle of about 0 - 45°, while the angle of the GRB jet is only 3.6°. So we propose that the outflow of GRBs with emission lines should have two distinct components： a wide component that illuminates the reprocessing material and produces the emission lines and a narrow one that produces the GRB. Observations show the energy for producing the emission lines is higher than that of the GRB. In this case, when the wide component dominates the afterglows, a bump should appear in the GRB afterglow. For GRB 011211, the bump should occur within 0.05 days of the GRB, which is obviously too early for the observation to catch it. Alongside the X-ray emission lines there should also be a bright emission component between the UV and the soft X-rays. These features can be tested by the Swift satellite in the near future.

We suggest a short-lived supermassive magnetar model to account for the X-ray flares following short γ-ray bursts. In this model the central engine of the short γ-ray bursts is a supermassive millisecond magnetar, formed in coalescence of double neutron stars. The X-ray flares are powered by the dipole radiation of the magnetar. When the magnetar has lost a significant part of its angular momentum, it collapses to a black hole and the X-ray flares cease abruptly.

Three density functional theory methods (DFT) have been used to investigate the H2+F?HF+H reaction comparing with the Hartree-Fock method and Moller-Plesset (MP2) perturbation theory method. Through the analysis of the vibrational mode and vibrational frequency in the reaction process, the reaction mechanism has been discussed. The activation energy, the reorganization energy and rate constant of the ET reaction are calculated at semi-quantitative level.

Background and Objective: miRNA-200c can not only inhibit the aggressiveness of cancer cells but also increase the sensitivity of cells to antitumor drugs. However, some mechanisms are still unclear. Recent researches revealed that E-cadherin is more than an inhibitor of metastasis, and it also plays important roles in reversing drug resistance. We had previously found that miRNA-200c could not only induce the expression of E-cadherin but also increase the sensitivity of gastric cancer SGC7901/DDP cells to cisplatin (DDP). This study aimed to explore the effects of miRNA-200c on biological characteristics of SGC7901/DDP cells and the roles of E-cadherin in the regulatory pathway of miRNA-200c. Methods: SGC7901/DDP cells and its parental cell line SGC7901 cells were transfected with miRNA-200c precursor (Pre-200c) and E-cadherin siRNA, respectively. Real-time RT-PCR was used to detect miRNA-200c expression after transfection with Pre-200c in SGC7901/DDP cell line. Drug sensitivities to DDP, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), paclitaxel, and adriamycin (ADR) after transfection were tested using MTT assay. The proliferation of SGC7901/DDP cells was also detected after transfection. The protein changes of E-cadherin, Bax, and Bcl-2 after transfection were detected by Western blot. Results: The miRNA-200c expression in SGC7901/DDP cells after transfection of Pre-200c was 7.128 ± 0.159 times of that in negative control (P < 0.05). The IC50 of DDP, 5-FU, paclitaxel, and ADR in Pre-200c-transfected group were significantly lower than that in negative control group (P < 0.05). Compared to the control group, cell proliferation was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). The relative protein expressions of E-cadherin and Bax in Pre-200c-transfected group were significantly higher than those in negative control group (P < 0.05), whereas Bcl-2 was significantly lower than that in control (P < 0.05). Graph coloring is an important tool in the study of optimization, computer science, network design, e.g., file transferring in a computer network, pattern matching, computation of Hessians matrix and so on. In this paper, we consider one important coloring, vertex coloring of a total graph, which is also called total coloring. We consider a planar graph G with maximum degree △（G）〉 8, and proved that if G contains no adjacent i,j-cycles with two chords for some i,j E {5,6,7}, then G is total-（△ ＋ 1）-colorable.

Aim:To investigate the acute and chronic effects of nateglinide versus acarboseon plasma asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels and lipid profiles inpatients with newly-diagnosed type 2 ***:A crossover trial ofnateglinide and acarbose was conducted on 16 drug-nave patients with newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes during a total period of 9 *** glucose,seruminsulin,free fatty acids (FFA),lipids and lipoproteins,and plasma ADMA ***:The efficiencies of a single dose of nateglinide (120 mg) andacarbose (50 mg) for lowering postprandial hyperglycemia were ***-pared to acarbose,nateglinide significantly increased postprandial insulin releaseafter a standard meal test in patients with type 2 *** acutelydecreased postprandial 120 min FFA concentrations and 240 min ADMA levelsmore significantly than *** fasting high-density lipoprotein choles-terol level increased and the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level decreasedsignificantly,but the fasting levels of triglycerides,total cholesterol,and ADMAwere unchanged after 4 weeks of treatment with *** did notaffect fasting lipid profiles or the ADMA levels after 4 weeks of ***:These results suggest that the reduction of postprandial FFA andADMA concentrations induced by nateglinide may be associated with the partialrestoration of early-phase insulin secretion and may impart a cardiovascularadvantage in comparison with acarbose.
