Running is believed to be beneficial for human health. Many studies have focused on the neuroprotective effects of voluntary running on animal models. There were both primary and secondary degeneration in neurodegenerative diseases, including glaucoma. However, whether running can delay primary or secondary degeneration or both of them was not clear. Partial optic nerve transection model is a valuable glaucoma model for studying both primary and secondary degeneration because it can separate primary(mainly in the superior retina) from secondary(mainly in the inferior retina) degeneration. Therefore, we compared the survival of retinal ganglion cells between Sprague-Dawley rat runners and non-runners both in the superior and inferior retinas. Excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and apoptosis are involved in the degeneration of retinal ganglion cells in glaucoma. So we also used western immunoblotting to compare the expression of some proteins involved in apoptosis(phospho-c-Jun N-terminal kinases, p-JNKs), oxidative stress(manganese superoxide dismutase, MnSOD) and excitotoxicity(glutamine synthetase) between runners and non-runners after partial optic nerve transection. Results showed that voluntary running delayed the death of retinal ganglion cells vulnerable to primary degeneration but not those to secondary degeneration. In addition, voluntary running decreased the expression of glutamine synthetase, but not the expression of p-JNKs and MnSOD in the superior retina after partial optic nerve transection. These results illustrated that primary degeneration of retinal ganglion cells might be mainly related with excitotoxicity rather than oxidative stress; and the voluntary running could down-regulate excitotoxicity to delay the primary degeneration of retinal ganglion cells after partial optic nerve transection.

Turbulent open channel flows subjected to the control of a spanwise traveling wave have been investigated by means of Direct Numerical Simulation （DNS）. The objective of this study is to reveal the response of the near-wall and surface-influenced turbulence to the spanwise traveling wave control. Three typical frequencies of the spanwise traveling wave, i.e., high-, middle- and low-frequency, corresponding to the exciting periods at 25, 50 and 100, are considered to study the turbulence dynamics in the wall and surface regions. To elucidate the behaviors of turbulence statistics, some typical quantities, including the mean velocity, velocity fluctuations and the structures of turbulence fluctuations, are exhibited and analyzed.

Cellular relay networks adopting orthogonal frequency division multiple （OFDM） technology has been widely accepted for next generation wireless communication due to its advantage in enlarging coverage scale as well as improving data *** order to improve the performance of user equipments （UEs） near the cell edge,especially to avoid the interference from inter-cell and intra cell,an enhanced soft frequency reuse scheme is adopted in this paper to assure inter-cell interference coordination （ICIC）.Compared with traditional frequency allocation work,the proposed scheme is interference-aware and load-adaptive,which dynamically assigns available frequency among UEs under certain schedule method in variable traffic load condition and mitigates interference using information provided by interference *** can improve signal-to-interference plus noise ratio （SINR） of the UE in each sub channel thus enable the system achieve better throughput and blocking probability *** results prove that the proposed scheme may achieve desirable performance on throughput,blocking probability and spectral utilization in the sector under different traffic load compared with other schemes.

We examine the effect of adding mesons fo(975)and φ(1020)as well as the variety of U(the potential well depth ofin nuclear matter)from -10 MeV to -28 MeV on the extent of the particles participation and the properties of the neutron star in the relativistic mean field *** find that considering the contribution of fo and φ mesons,the equation of state of the neutron star turns soft,the maximum mass reduces while the corresponding radius *** appear at lower density as Ubecomes deeper,and the variety of Uhas little effect on the equation of state and the properties of the neutron star.

In this paper, a network scenario of two-way relaying over orthogonal frequency division multiplexing （OFDM） is considered, in which two nodes intend to exchange the information via a relay using physical-layer network coding （PLNC）. Assuming that the full channel knowledge is available, an optimization problem, which maximizes the achievable sum rate under a sum-power constraint, is investigated. It is shown that the optimization problem is non-convex, which is difficult to find the global optimum solution in terms of the computational complexity. In consequence, a low-complexity optimal power allocation scheme is proposed for practice implementation. A link capacity diagram is first employed for power allocation on each subcarrier. Subsequently, an equivalent relaxed optimization problem and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker （KKT） conditions are developed for power allocation among each subcarrier. Simulation results demonstrate that the substantial capacity gains are achieved by implementing the proposed schemes efficiently with a low-complexity computational effort.

To develop a plant expression system for the production of the human papillomavirus type 16(HPV16)vaccine,we investigated whether the HPV16 L1 protein can be expressed in tobacco plants andwhether it can be used as the cheapest form of edible *** HPV16 L1 coding sequence was amplifiedby PCR using specific primers from the plasmid pGEM-T-HPV16 containing the template sequence,andsubcloned into the intermediate vector pUCmT and binary vector pBI121 consecutively to obtain the plantexpression plasmid *** T-DNA regions of the pBI-L1 binary vector contained the constitutiveCauliflower mosaic virus(CaMV)35S promoter and the neomycin phosphotransferase npt Ⅱ gene,whichallowed the selection of transformed plants using *** tobacco plants were transformed by co-cultivating them,using the leaf disc method,with Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404,which harbored theplant expression *** regenerated transgenic tobacco plants were selected using kanamycin,andconfirmed by *** results of the Southern blot assay also showed that the HPV16 L1 gene was inte-grated stably into the genome of the transformed tobacco *** Western blot analysis showed that thetransformed tobacco leaves could express the HPV16 L1 ***,it was demonstrated byELISA assay that the expressed protein accounted for 0.034%-0.076% of the total soluble leaf protein,wasable to form 55 nm virus-like particles compatible with HPV virus-like particle(VLP),and induced mouseerythrocyte hemagglutination in *** present results indicate that the HPV16 L1 protein can be ex-pressed in transgenic tobacco plants and the expressed protein possesses the natural features of the HPV16L1 protein,implying that the HPV16 L1 transgenic plants can be potentially used as an edible vaccine.

Risk Assessment of Disaster Chain: Experience from Wenchuan Earthquake-induced Landslides in China

This paper deals with the formative process of the Wenchuan earthquake disaster chain risk. Selected earthquake-landslides chain risk is critically evaluated by the probability of landslide displacement failure based on the Newmark's permanent-deformation model. In this context, a conceptual model of regional disaster chain risk assessment was proposed, in which the hazardformative environments sensitivity was the core factor as well as the main difference compared with single disaster risk assessment. The disaster chain risk is accumulation of primary disaster risk and the secondary disasters risks. Results derived from the Wenchuan case proved that the conceptual model was suitable for the disaster chain risk assessment, especially the sudden disaster chain. This experience would offer greater potential in application of conceptual model of disaster chain risk assessment, in the process of large-scale disaster risk governance.
