Experimental and numerical investigations on wave motions over platform reef-flat

Previous studies have shown that high-frequency(HF)waves,low-frequency(LF)waves and wave set-up coexist on shallow coral reef-flat and jointly contribute to potential floods and subsequent damages of infrastructures and islands on it.To better understand the reef-flat wave dynamics with incident waves and still water level,a wave-flume experiment was performed based on an idealized platform reef composed of a steep reef-face(1:4),a relatively mild reef-rim(1:14)and a horizontal reef-flat.Also,the non-hydrostatic phase-resolving model SWASH was validated against the experiment and then applied to further numerically investigate the effects of reef-rim topographic features on the reef-flat wave motions.The results show that incident waves of a larger wave height and a longer wave period can generate larger LF waves and wave set-up,thereby inducing greater HF waves on the reef-flat.Higher still water level can lead to larger HF waves but result in smaller wave set-up.In contrast to HF waves and wave set-up,LF waves are minimally affected by the still water level.A rim of milder slope and larger edge depth will induce smaller HF and LF waves and set-up on the reef-flat,and thus provide better protection for the reef-flat region.Furthermore,on the reef-flat,the ratio of HF significant wave height to water depth H_(s_h)/(h_(r)+η^(-))is approximately constant;the dimensionless LF significant wave height Hs_l/H_(s0) and the dimensionless wave set-upη^(-)/[T_(p)(gH_(s0))1/2]can be related to the inverse wave steepness parameter gT_(p)^(2)/H_(s0) and the relative reef-flat submergence(h_(r)+η^(-))/H_(s0) respectively.

Experimental investigation of the effect of the wall proximity on the mode transition of a vortex-induced vibrating flexible pipe and the evolution of wall-impact

The present work experimentally investigates the vortex-induced vibration(VIV)and the pipe-wall impact of a flexible pipe in an oblique flow.The flexible pipe with an aspect ratio of 86.67 and an oblique angle of 30°is immersed in the water flow with the initial gap ratio in the range of 0.2–0.8 and 49.5.The space-time varying oscillation responses in both the in-line and cross-flow directions are recorded using the non-intrusive optical measurement with high-speed cameras in the normal reduced velocity range of 3.40–14.43.The oblique flow induces the spatial variations of the inclination angle to the flexible pipe as a result of the bending deformation during the oscillation.Consequently,the flexible pipe experiences an asymmetrical response along the span and an out-of-sync mode transition in the in-line and cross-flow directions.As the gap ratio decreases,the VIV response is suppressed,and the vibration regions of lower modes are prolonged with the result of the delay of higher excited modes.Additionally,the wall proximity results in an upward deflection of the equilibrium position,and this offset is enlarged with the decrease of the gap ratio.The occurrence of the pipe-wall impact depends on the amplitude of the spatial-temporal varying oscillation and the dominant response mode.Five pipe-wall impact patterns are proposed in terms of the number and the length of the contact pipe segments.The evolution of the pipe-wall impact pattern with the increase of the normal reduced velocity is closely related to the variations of the dominant response mode and the amplitude and the alteration of its spatial distribution.

FedFV: A Personalized Federated Learning Framework for Finger Vein Authentication

Most finger vein authentication systems suffer from the problem of small sample size.However,the data augmentation can alleviate this problem to a certain extent but did not fundamentally solve the problem of category diversity.So the researchers resort to pre-training or multi-source data joint training methods,but these methods will lead to the problem of user privacy leakage.In view of the above issues,this paper proposes a federated learning-based finger vein authentication framework(FedFV)to solve the problem of small sample size and category diversity while protecting user privacy.Through training under FedFV,each client can share the knowledge learned from its user′s finger vein data with the federated client without causing template leaks.In addition,we further propose an efficient personalized federated aggregation algorithm,named federated weighted proportion reduction(FedWPR),to tackle the problem of non-independent identically distribution caused by client diversity,thus achieving the best performance for each client.To thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of FedFV,comprehensive experiments are conducted on nine publicly available finger vein datasets.Experimental results show that FedFV can improve the performance of the finger vein authentication system without directly using other client data.To the best of our knowledge,FedFV is the first personalized federated finger vein authentication framework,which has some reference value for subsequent biometric privacy protection research.

Output Regulation of Multiple Heterogeneous Switched Linear Systems

This paper addresses the cooperative output regulation problem of a class of multi-agent systems （MASs）. Each agent is a switched linear system. We propose an agent-dependent multiple Lyapunov function （MLF） approach to design the switching law for each switched agent. The distributed controller for each agent is constructed based on a dynamic compensator. A sufficient condition for the solvability of the output regulation problem of switched agent networks is presented by distributed controllers and agent-dependent multiple Lyapunov function approach. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our theory.

Experimental Investigation of Vibration Response of A Free-Hanging Flexible Riser Induced by Internal Gas-Liquid Slug Flow

The vibration response of a free-hanging flexible riser induced by internal gas-liquid slug flow was studied experimentally in a small-diameter tube model based on Froude number criterion. The flow regime in a curved riser model and the response displacements of the riser were simultaneously recorded by high speed cameras. The gas superficial velocity ranges from 0.1 m/s to 0.6 m/s while the liquid superficial velocity from 0.06 m/s to 0.3 m/s.Severe slugging type 3, unstable oscillation flow and relatively stable slug flow were observed in the considered flow rates. Severe slugging type 3 characterized by premature gas penetration occurs at relatively low flow rates. Both the cycle time and slug length become shorter as the gas flow rate increases. The pressure at the riser base undergoes a longer period and larger amplitude of fluctuation as compared with the other two flow regimes. Additionally, severe slugging leads to the most vigorous in-plane vibration. However, the responses in the vertical and horizontal directions are not synchronized. The vertical vibration is dominated by the second mode while the horizontal vibration is dominated by the first mode. Similar to the vortex-induced vibration, three branches are identified as initial branch, build-up branch and descending branch for the response versus the mixture velocity of gas-liquid flow.

Study on the Characteristics of A New Hybrid Mooring System for DualPlatform Joint Operations

As the sustainable exploitation of marine resources develops,dual-platform joint operation has caught increasing attention.Dual-platform joint operation requires smaller relative motion between the two sub-platforms,which is normally difficult to be satisfied by the traditional mooring system.Therefore,a new hybrid mooring system is developed and studied in this article.To ensure safety during platform movements,both the number of anchor chains and the relative motion between the two sub-platforms are reduced in the new hybrid mooring system.By performing numerical simulations based on three-dimensional potential flow theory in AQWA and physical experiments,the performances of both the new hybrid and traditional mooring systems under two different wave conditions(i.e.,working wave and freak wave conditions) are systematically investigated.Regarding the new hybrid mooring system,the relative stability between the two sub-platforms of the new system is better,and the platforms can restore stability faster when affected by freak waves.

STING and TLR7/8 agonists-based nanovaccines for synergistic antitumor immune activation

Immunostimulatory therapies based on pattern recognition receptors(PRRs)have emerged as an effective approach in the fight against cancer,with the ability to recruit tumor-specific lymphocytes in a low-immunogenicity tumor environment.The agonist cyclic dinucleotides(CDNs)of the stimulator of interferon gene(STING)are a group of very promising anticancer molecules that increase tumor immunogenicity by activating innate immunity.However,the tumor immune efficacy of CDNs is limited by several factors,including relatively narrow cytokine production,inefficient delivery to STING,and rapid clearance.In addition,a single adjuvant molecule is unable to elicit a broad cytokine response and thus cannot further amplify the anticancer effect.To address this problem,two or more agonist molecules are often used together to synergistically enhance immune efficacy.In this work,we found that a combination of the STING agonist CDGSF and the Toll-like receptor 7/8(TLR7/8)agonist 522 produced a broader cytokine response.Subsequently,we developed multicomponent nanovaccines(MCNVs)consisting of a PC7A polymer as a nanocarrier encapsulating the antigen OVA and adjuvant molecules.These MCNVs activate bone marrow-derived dendritic cells(BMDCs)to produce multiple proinflammatory factors that promote antigen cross-presentation to stimulate specific antitumor Tcell responses.In in vivo experiments,we observed that MCNVs triggered a strong T-cell response in tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes,resulting in significant tumor regression and,notably,a 100%survival rate in mice through 25 days without other partnering therapies.These data suggest that our nanovaccines have great potential to advance cancer immunotherapy with increased durability and potency.

Influence of Microcirculatory Dysfunction on Myocardial Injury after Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Objective This study aimed to examine the effects of microcirculatory dysfunction and 654-1intervention after cardiopulmonary resuscitation on myocardial injury.Methods Landrace pigs were divided into a sham operation group(S group,n=6),ventricular fibrillation control group(VF-C group,n=8)and 654-1 intervention group(VF-I group,n=8).Hemodynamics was recorded at baseline,at recovery of spontaneous circulation(ROSC),and 1 h,2 h,4h and 6 h thereafter.Sidestream dark field(SDF)technology was used to evaluate and monitor the microcirculation flow index,total vessel density,perfusion vessel ratio,De-Backer score,and perfusion vessel density in animal viscera at various time points.Results After administration of 654-1 at 1.5 h post-ROSC,the hemodynamics in the VF-I group,as compared with the VF-C group,was significantly improved.The visceral microcirculation detected by SDF was also significantly improved in the VF-I group.As observed through electron microscopy,significantly less myocardial tissue injury was present in the VF-I group than the VF-C group.Conclusion Administration of 654-1 inhibited excessive inflammatory by improving the state of visceral microcirculation.

Vascular remodeling and angiogenesis are two key processes in the maintenance of vascular homeostasis and involved in a wide array of vascular pathologies. Following these processes, extracellular matrix (ECM) provides the mechanical foundation for vascular walls. Lysyl oxidase (LOX), the key matrix-modifying enzyme, has been demonstrated to significantly affect structural abnormality and dysfunction in the blood vessels. The role of LOX in vascular remodeling and angiogenesis has always been the subject in the current medical research. Therefore, we presently make a summarization of the biosynthesis of LOX and the mechanisms involved in vascular remodeling and angiogenesis, as well as the role of LOX in diseases associated with vascular abnormalities and the therapeutic potential via targeting LOX. In particular, we give a proposal that LOX likely reshapes matrisome-associated genes expressions in the regulation of vascular remodeling and angiogenesis, which serves as a mechanistic insight into the critical role of LOX in these two aspects. Additionally, LOX has also dual effects on the vascular dysfunction, namely, inhibition of LOX for improving hypertension, restenosis and malignant tumor while activation of LOX for curing arterial aneurysm and dissection. LOX-targeted therapy may provide a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of various vascular pathologies associated with vascular remodeling and angiogenesis.

Synthesis and microwave absorption property of nanostructured Ketjen black/Fe_(3)O_(4) core/shell particles

Nanostructured Ketjen black/Fe_(3)O_(4) core/shell particles have been prepared through a simple one-step hydrothermal method.The microstructure analysis shows that the assynthesized composite particles display a typical core/shell structure:the Ketjen black is playing as the core,while a large number of Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles are uniformly attaching to the surface of the Ketjen black and forming the shell.The investigation of the magnetic properties of the nanostructured Ketjen black/Fe_(3)O_(4) core/shell materials reveals that the as-synthesized composite is a typical soft ferromagnetism material.The 40 wt%Ketjen black/Fe_(3)O_(4)-paraffin composites exhibit an excellent reflection loss value of-64.21 dB at a thickness of 2.00 mm,and the broadest effective bandwidth of 4.17 GHz at a thickness of1.50 mm.This work provides a brand-new type of magnetic carbon nanoparticles,defined as Ketjen black/Fe_(3)O_(4)core/shell particles,which are an excellent candidate for high-perform ance electromagnetic wave absorber materials.
