An Automatic Classification Pipeline for the Complex Synaptic Structure Based on Deep Learning

As a hallmark of brain complexity,synapses in the nervous system have always received extensive attentions.The diversity of the synaptic structure reflects various functions and mechanisms,some research indicates that,as one of the complex synaptic structures,multiple synapses can strengthen the synaptic connection,what’s more,it is closely associated with the procedure of memory and learning.Accompanied by the fast advancement of electron microscopy(EM)technology,it is possible to detect the composition of multiple synapse with high resolution.On this basis,there have been various meaningful studies concerning the relationship between the multiple synapse and cognitive abilities.Despite the extensive studies have been made by different researchers on multiple synapse,no attention has been paid to the classification accuracy of the type of multiple synapse.The current research puts forward an effective method for the automatic classification of multiple synapse,which should be performed in three steps,namely the segmentation of synaptic clefts,the segmentation of vesicle bands,as well as the segmentation of multiple synapses.According to experimental results based on four data sets,the mean classification rate of the method is approximately 97%.In addition,the experimental result on the public dataset shows that the accuracy can reach 96.5%.The classification results provide a basis for quantitative statistics of follow-up studies.Moreover,this automatic classification method can reduce the time in artificial statistics,and thus researchers can focus more attention on the analysis of statistical results.

Moxibustion alleviates decreased ovarian reserve in rats by restoring the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway

Objective:Moxibustion,a common therapy in traditional Chinese medicine,has potential benefits for treating decreased ovarian reserve(DOR).The present study investigates the protective effect of moxibustion in a rat model of DOR and explores the possible mechanisms.Methods:Sixty-four female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups:control,DOR,moxibustion(MOX),and hormone replacement therapy(HRT).The DOR rat model was established by intragastric administration of 50 mg/kg Tripterygium glycoside suspension(TGS),once daily for 14 days.MOX and HRT treatments were given from the day TGS administration was initiated.The ovarian reserve function was evaluated by monitoring the estrus cycle,morphological changes in ovaries,levels of serum estradiol(E2),follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),luteinizing hormone(LH),and anti-Mullerian hormone(AMH),pregnancy rate and embryo numbers.Terminal-deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated nickend-labeling staining was used to identify ovarian granulosa cell apoptosis,while the protein and m RNA expressions of Bax,B-cell lymphoma-2(Bcl-2),phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3 K)and protein kinase B(AKT)in ovarian tissues were examined by immunohistochemistry,Western blot and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.Results:Compared with the DOR group,MOX improved the disordered estrous cycle,promoted follicular growth,reduced the number of atresia follicles,increased the concentrations of serum E2 and AMH,and decreased serum FSH and LH concentrations.More importantly,the pregnancy rate and embryo numbers in DOR rats were both upregulated in the MOX treatment group,compared to the untreated DOR model.Further,we found that the MOX group had reduced apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells,increased Bcl-2 expression and reduced expression of Bax.Furthermore,the PI3 K/AKT signaling pathway was triggered by the moxibustion treatment.Conclusion:Moxibustion improved ovarian function and suppressed apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells in a rat model of DOR induced by TG

Lifetime estimation of IGBT module using square-wave loss discretization and power cycling test

The insulated gate bipolar transistor(IGBT)module is one of the most age-affected components in the switch power supply, and its reliability prediction is conducive to timely troubleshooting and reduction in safety risks and unnecessary costs. The pulsed current pattern of the accelerator power supply is different from other converter applications;therefore, this study proposed a lifetime estimation method for IGBT modules in pulsed power supplies for accelerator magnets. The proposed methodology was based on junction temperature calculations using square-wave loss discretization and thermal modeling.Comparison results showed that the junction temperature error between the simulation and IR measurements was less than 3%. An AC power cycling test under real pulsed power supply applications was performed via offline wearout monitoring of the tested power IGBT module. After combining the IGBT4 PC curve and fitting the test results,a simple corrected lifetime model was developed to quantitatively evaluate the lifetime of the IGBT module,which can be employed for the accelerator pulsed power supply in engineering. This method can be applied to other IGBT modules and pulsed power supplies.

FedNRM:A Federal Personalized News Recommendation Model Achieving User Privacy Protection

In recent years,the type and quantity of news are growing rapidly,and it is not easy for users to find the news they are interested in the massive amount of news.A news recommendation system can score and predict the candidate news,and finally recommend the news with high scores to users.However,existing user models usually only consider users’long-term interests and ignore users’recent interests,which affects users’usage experience.Therefore,this paper introduces gated recurrent unit(GRU)sequence network to capture users’short-term interests and combines users’short-term interests and long-terminterests to characterize users.While existing models often only use the user’s browsing history and ignore the variability of different users’interest in the same news,we introduce additional user’s ID information and apply the personalized attention mechanism for user representation.Thus,we achieve a more accurate user representation.We also consider the risk of compromising user privacy if the user model training is placed on the server side.To solve this problem,we design the training of the user model locally on the client side by introducing a federated learning framework to keep the user’s browsing history on the client side.We further employ secure multiparty computation to request news representations from the server side,which protects privacy to some extent.Extensive experiments on a real-world news dataset show that our proposed news recommendation model has a better improvement in several performance evaluation metrics.Compared with the current state-of-the-art federated news recommendation models,our model has increased by 0.54%in AUC,1.97%in MRR,2.59%in nDCG@5%,and 1.89%in nDCG@10.At the same time,because we use a federated learning framework,compared with other centralized news recommendation methods,we achieve privacy protection for users.

Comparison of intravitreal bevacizumab with macular photocoagulation for treatment of diabetic macular edema: a systemic review and Meta-analysis

AIM: To further evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal bevacizumab(IVB) versus macular photocoagulation(MPC) in treatment of diabetic macular edema(DME) by Meta-analysis. METHODS: Pertinent publications were identified through systemic searches of Pub Med, Medline,EMBASE, and the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register up to 30 November, 2013. Changes in central macular thickness(CMT) in μm and best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) in log MAR equivalents were extracted at 1, 3, 6,12 and 24 mo after initial treatment, and a Meta-analysis was carried out to compare results between groups receiving IVB and MPC.RESULTS: Five randomized controlled trial(RCTs) and one high-quality comparative study were identified and included. Our Meta-analysis revealed that both IVB and MPC resulted in the improvements of CMT and BCVA in eyes with DME at 1mo after initial treatment, with IVB being significantly superior to MPC(P =0.01 and 0.02,respectively). The improvements of both measure outcomes at 3, 6, 12 and 24 mo after treatment did not vary significantly between the IVB groups and MPC groups(CMT at 3mo, P =0.85; at 6mo, P =0.29; at 12 mo,P =0.56; at 24 mo, P =0.71; BCVA at 3mo, P =0.31; at 6mo,P =0.30; at 12 mo, P =0.23; at 24 mo, P =0.52). However,the number of observed adverse events was low in all studies.CONCLUSION: Current evidence shows IVB treatment trends to be more effective in improvements of macular edema and vision in eyes with DME at an earlier follow up(1mo) compared with MPC. At other time, both interventions have comparable efficacy without statistical significances.

An Intelligent Identification Approach of Assembly Interface for CAD Models

Kinematic semantics is often an important content of a CAD model(it refers to a single part/solid model in this work)in many applications,but it is usually not the belonging of the model,especially for the one retrieved from a common database.Especially,the effective and automatic method to reconstruct the above information for a CAD model is still rare.To address this issue,this paper proposes a smart approach to identify each assembly interface on every CAD model since the assembly interface is the fundamental but key element of reconstructing kinematic semantics.First,as the geometry of an assembly interface is formed by one or more adjacent faces on each model,a face-attributed adjacency graph integrated with face structure fingerprint is proposed.This can describe each CAD model as well as its assembly interfaces uniformly.After that,aided by the above descriptor,an improved graph attention network is developed based on a new dual-level anti-interference filtering mechanism,which makes it have the great potential to identify all representative kinds of assembly interface faces with high accuracy that have various geometric shapes but consistent kinematic semantics.Moreover,based on the abovementioned graph and face-adjacent relationships,each assembly interface on a model can be identified.Finally,experiments on representative CAD models are implemented to verify the effectiveness and characteristics of the proposed approach.The results show that the average assembly-interface-face-identification accuracy of the proposed approach can reach 91.75%,which is about 2%–5%higher than those of the recent-representative graph neural networks.Besides,compared with the state-of-the-art methods,our approach is more suitable to identify the assembly interfaces(with various shapes)for each individual CAD model that has typical kinematic pairs.

Synergic Enhancement of High-density Polyethylene through Ultrahigh Molecular Weight Polyethylene and Multi-flow Vibration Injection Molding: A Facile Fabrication with Potential Industrial Prospects

General-purpose plastics with high strength and toughness have been in great demand for structural engineering applications.To achieve the reinforcement and broaden the application scope of high-density polyethylene(HDPE),multi-flow vibration injection molding(MFVIM)and ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)are synergistically employed in this work.Herein,the MFVIM has better shear layer control ability and higher fabrication advantage for complex parts than other analogous novel injection molding technologies reported.The reinforcing effect of various filling times and UHMWPE contents as well as the corresponding microstructure evolution are investigated.When 5 wt%UHMWPE is added,MFVIM process with six flow times thickens the shear layer to the whole thickness.The tensile strength and modulus increase to 2.14 and 1.39 times,respectively,compared to neat HDPE on the premise of remaining 70%impact strength.Structural characterizations indicate that the enhancement is attributed to the improvement of shish-kebab content and lamellae compactness,as well as related to the corresponding size distributions of undissolved UHMWPE particles.This novel injection molding technology with great industrial prospects provides a facile and effective strategy to broaden the engineering applications of HDPE materials.Besides,excessive UHMWPE may impair the synergistic enhancement effect,which is also reasonably explained.

Experimental study on the accumulative effect of multiple pulses on acceleration sensor

Intentional electromagnetic interference is a serious threat to the safety of electronic devices. Multiple electromagnetic pulses will be coupled and transmitted to electronic devices through the cables.Accumulative effects are generated, which make it easier for damage to occur in the electronic devices. In this article, the working principle of micro-silicon acceleration sensors is introduced. The accumulative effects of multiple pulses on acceleration sensors is studied by a large number of injection experiments.The accumulation trends of multiple pulses with different pulse numbers and intervals are analyzed. The damaged structures inside abnormal sensor amplifiers were observed via optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results show that the accumulative effect is strengthened with increased pulse number or decreased pulse interval, and the threshold voltage for multiple pulses on the acceleration sensor decreases. The threshold voltage for a single pulse is 321.57 V. When the pulse interval is 1 μs and the pulse number is 5, the threshold voltage for multiple pulses is 163.42 V,which is reduced by 49.12% compared with a single pulse. These results provide a reference for the damage design of electromagnetic pulse weapons.

The ovary is a vital female reproductive organ that functions to produce oocyte gametes and cyclically expressed sex hormones to maintain reproductive capacity and hormone homeostasis.Ovarian aging,characterized by declines in follicle quantity and oocyte quality,leads to premature ovarian failure,premature ovarian insufficiency,or diminished ovarian reserve,thus contributing to female infertility.Distinct gene-expression signatures from RNA transcriptional level and post-transcriptional regulation are relative to oocyte quality and reproductive age.
