Dear Editor, There are two main causes of severe asthenozoospermia： ultrastructural defects （genetically inherited and congenital defects） of the sperm flagellum and necrozoospermia or sperm degeneration secondary to other pathological changes （see review by Ortega et al2）. Genetic-related absolute asthenozoospermia includes primary ciliary dyskinesia and dysplasia of the fibrous sheath （DFS）, which result in 100% （or nearly） immotile spermatozoa.

AIM:To describe the clinical,electrophysiological,and genetic features of an unusual case with an RDH12 homozygous pathogenic variant and reviewed the characteristics of the patients reported with the same ***:The patient underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination including best-corrected visual acuity,anterior segment and dilated fundus,visual field,spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(OCT)and electroretinogram(ERG).The retinal disease panel genes were sequenced through chip capture high-throughput sequencing and Sanger sequencing was used to confirm the *** we reviewed the characteristics of the patients reported with the same ***:A 30-year male presented with severe early retinal degeneration who complained night blindness,decreased visual acuity,vitreous floaters and amaurosis *** best corrected vision was 0.04 OD and 0.12 OS,*** fundus photo and OCT showed bilateral macular atrophy but larger areas of macular atrophy in the left *** shows bilateral symmetrical *** revealed that the amplitudes of a-and b-wave were severely *** ERG showed decreased amplitudes in the local macular area.A homozygous missense variant c.146C>T(chr14:68191267)was *** clinical characteristics of a total of 13 patients reported with the same pathologic variant ***:An unusual patient with a homozygous pathogenic variant in the c.146C>T of RDH12 which causes late-onset and asymmetric retinal degeneration are *** clinical manifestations of the patient with multimodal retinal imaging and functional examinations have enriched our understanding of this disease.

AIM: To detect the mutations in two candidate genes, myocilin (MYOC ) and cytochrome P450 1B1 (CYP1B1 ), in a Chinese family with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). ·METHODS:Thefamilywascomposedofthreemembers, the parents and a daughter. All members of the family underwent complete ophthalmologic examinations. Exons of MYOC and CYP1B1 genes were screened for sequence alterations by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and direct DNA sequencing. ·RESULTS: The mother was the proband, she was diagnosed as POAG in both eyes. Her daughter was diagnosed as juvenile -onset POAG. The father was asymptomatic. One MYOC heterozygous mutation c.1150 G >A (D384N) in exon 3 was identified in the mother, another MYOC heterozygous variation c.1058 C>T (T353I) in exon 3 was identified in the father, and the daughter inherited both of the variations. Meanwhile, three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CYP1B1 gene were found in the family. ·CONCLUSION: The D384N mutation of MYOC has been reported as one of disease-causing mutations in POAG, whereas T353I variation of MYOC was thought as a high risk factor for POAG. The two variations of MYOC were first reported in one juvenile -onset POAG patient whopresented with more severe clinical manifestations, suggesting that T353I polymorphism of MYOC may be associated with the severity of POAG.

For the first time,we have introduced the tetrahedron constellation of gravitational wave observatory(TEGO)composed of four identical spacecrafts(S/Cs).The laser telescopes and their pointing structures are mounted on the S/C platform and are evenly distributed at three locations 120 degrees *** structures form automatically a stable mass center for the *** time delay interferometry(TDI)is used to suppress the frequency noise of gravitational wave(GW)*** unequal-arm Michelson TDI configuration and the Sagnac TDI configuration are equally effective at eliminating the laser frequency noise based on the TEGO ***,compared with the configurations of LISA,Taiji,and Tian Qin,the TEGO has more combinations of optical paths in its TDI system sensitive to GW *** six arms of TEGO are simultaneously sensitive to the six polarization modes of *** sensitivity implies that GW modes beyond the predictions of general relativity(GR)can be detected *** instance,a scalar longitudinal mode of GWs,which is not predicted by GR,has been identified as a dominant polarization *** mode is found to be evident in the response amplitudes of the TEGO arms,such as between S/C1 and S/C4,and S/C3 and S/C4,at certain orbital positions.

To elucidate the mechanisms of regulating the microstructure uniformity in 7050 aluminum forgings through surface cumulative plastic deformation(SCPD),the microstructure under different solution treatments was investigated using metallographic observation(OM),electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The findings demonstrate that the most uniform microstructure in the forgings is achieved with a solution treatment at 470℃for 30 *** SCPD process generates a significant number of needle-shaped precipitates,resulting in a higher dislocation density and stored *** treatments alleviate the pinning effect of second-phase particles and facilitate static recrystallization(SRX)in forgings,leading to a reduction in grain ***,mechanical testing results demonstrate 7%−13%increase in tensile strength and more uniform elongation of the forgings in different directions.

For space-based gravitational wave(GW)detection,the main noise source for massive black hole binaries(MBHBs)is attributed to approximately 107 double white dwarf binaries in the *** a GW source,the amplitude of the detector response,recorded by a space-based gravitational wave detector,exhibits a modulation effect with a year period when observing the source from various orbital *** the adverse conditions mentioned above,where there is a strong foreground noise and annual modulation in the signals,we employed the wavelet transform and the strong-amplitude relevant orbital position search methods,which allows the weak MBHB sources to achieve higher locating *** detail,for two MBHB sources of lower intensity,the precision of luminosity distance,represented by the ratioΔD_(L)/D_(L) at the 95%confidence level,is enhanced by factors of∼*** angular resolutions,denoted byΔΩs,are enhanced by a factor of∼*** improvements increase the number of detectable GW sources,facilitate multi-messenger follow-up observations and provide constraints on the cosmological constant.

The stability of matrix graphite under neutron irradiation and in corrosive environments is crucial for the safe operation of molten salt reactors(MSRs).Raman spectroscopy and a slow positron beam were employed to investigate the effects of He ion irradiation fluences and subsequent annealing on the microstructure and defects of the matrix *** ions with 500 keV energy and fluences ranging from 1.1×10^(15)ions∕cm^(2)to 3.5×10^(17)ions∕cm^(2)were used to simulate neutron irradiation at 300 *** samples with an irradiation fluence of 3.5×10^(16)ions∕cm^(2)were subjected to isochronal annealing at different temperatures(573 K,873 K and 1173 K)for 3 *** Raman results revealed that the D peak gradually increased,whereas the intrinsic G peak decreased with increasing irradiation *** the same irradiation fluence,the D peak gradually decreased,whereas the intrinsic G peak increased with increasing annealing *** positron beam analysis demonstrated that the density or size of irradiation defects(vacancy type)increased with higher irradiation fluence,but decreased rapidly with increasing annealing *** Raman spectral analysis of sample cross sections subjected to high irradiation fluences revealed the emergence of amorphization precisely at the depth where ion damage was most pronounced,whereas the surface retained its crystalline *** and positron annihilation analyses indicated that the matrix graphite exhibited good irradiation resistance to He ions at 300 ***,vacancy-type defects induced by He ion irradiation exhibit poor thermal stability and can be easily removed during annealing.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries encounter enormous challenges such as Zn dendrites and parasitic *** modification is a highly effective strategy to address these *** the advantages of low cost,nontoxicity,biodegradability,good film-forming ability,superior hydro phi licity,and rich functional groups,chitosan is an ideal matrix for constructing ***,the presence of positive charges within chitosan in weakly acidic electrolytes is unfavorable for dendrite ***,Schiff base reaction is introduced to modify chitosan matrix,transforming its charge polarity from positive to ***,NbN with excellent zincophilicity is coated onto chitosan matrix,forming a Janus separator with low thickness of 19 μm and considerably improved mechanical *** resultant separator can promote the transport of Zn2+ions while triggering a repulsive shielding effect against anions,therefore dramatically enhancing Zn2+ion transfer number from 0.28 to *** separator can also facilitate desolvation process,improve exchange current density,restrict two-dimensional Zn2+ion diffusion,and enhance electrochemical kinetics,contributing to significantly inhibited dendrite growth,by-product formation,and hydrogen ***,stable and reversible Zn stripping/plating process is enabled for over 2500 h at 2 mA cm-2and 2 mAh *** great rate capability and excellent cyclability can be achieved for full batteries even under harsh *** work provides new insights into separator design for Zn-based batteries.
