Photoactive complexes of nonprecious transition metals, mainly.including those in the first-row and partially.the second-row of the Periodic table of elements, have received increasing attention in view of their low cost and long-term sustainability. They.are recognized as promising alternatives to noble transition metal complex congeners that have been extensively.studied in optoelectronic devices, artificial photosy.thesis, photocataly.is, biodiagnostics, and therapeutics, etc. This review is devoted to a comprehensive summary.on the classical and recent advances on photoactive nonprecious transition metal complexes, including photoactive Zr, V, Cr, Mo, and W complexes, Mn complexes and hy.rids, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu complexes, and Zn and Cd complexes and hy.rids. A particular focus is given on the molecular design, modulation of photophy.ical and photochemical properties, and applications of the representative and lately.developed nonprecious metal complexes. In addition, a perspective on the future development in this field is provided at the end of this review.

SURFACE MODIFICATION OF TITANIUM FILMS WITH SODIUM ION IMPLANTATION:SURFACE PROPERTIES AND PROTEIN ADSORPTION

Sodium implanted titanium films with different ion doses were characterized to correlate their ion implantation parameters. Native titanium films and ion implanted titanium films were characterized with combined techniques of X-ray.photoelectron spectroscopy.（XPS）, atomic force microscopy.（AFM）, and light microscopy.（LM）. The surface presented increased sodium concentration on treated titanium films with ion dose increasing, except for the group with the highest ion dose of 4×10^17ions/cm^2. XPS depth profiling display.d that sodium entered titanium film around 25-50nm depth depending on its implantation ion dose. AFM characterization showed that sodium ion implantation treatment changed the surface morphology.from a relatively.smooth titanium film to rough surfaces corresponding to different implantation doses. After sodium implantation, implanted titanium films presented big particles with island structure morphology. The surface morphology.and particle growth display.d the corresponding trend. Fibrinogen adsorption on these titanium films was performed to correlate with the surface properties of treated titanium films. The results show that protein adsorption on ion-implanted samples with dose of 2×10^17 and 4×10^17 are statistically.higher （p 〈0.01） than samples treated with dose of 5×10^16 and 1×10^17, as well as the control samples.

Regularity.of atomic nuclei with random interactions： sd bosons

Atomic nuclei are complex sy.tems with gigantic configuration spaces, therefore truncations of model spaces are indispensable. Due to the short-range nature of the nuclear interactions, one may.resort to a truncation by.using coherent nucleon-pairs which are conveniently.further simplified as bosons, such as sd bosons. The discovery.of the spin-zero ground state dominance with random two-body.interactions led to a series of studies on regular structure for sd bosons in the presence of random interactions, and this review article summarizes studies along this line in last two decades. We concentrate on various patterns exhibited in sd boson sy.tems, and demonstrate that many.random samples which were thought to be noisy.exhibit very.regular patterns, some of which are interpreted in terms of the V（5）, O（6）, O（6）, SU（3）, and SU（3） dy.amical sy.metries of the sd interacting boson model.

Mapping of ionospheric parameters for space weather predictions: A concise review

Reviewing briefly.the recent progress in a joint program of specify.ng the polar ionosphere primarily.on the basis of ground magnetometer data, this paper em-phasizes the importance of processing data from around the world in real time for space weather predictions. The output parameters from the program include ionospheric electric fields and currents and field-aligned currents. These real-time records are essential for running computer simulations under realistic boundary.conditions and thus for making numerical predictions of space weather efficient as reliable as possible. Data from individual ground magnetometers as well as from the solar wind are collected and are used as input for the KRM and AMIE mag-netogram-inversion algorithms, through which the two-dimensional distribution of the ionospheric parameters is calculated. One of the goals of the program is to specify.the solar-terrestrial environment in terms of ionospheric processes and to provide the scientific community.with more than what geomagnetic activity.indices and statistical models indicate.

On the Bloch Constant for K-Quasiconformal Mappings in Several Complex Variables

We study.the Bloch constant for K-quasiconformal holomorphic mappings of the unit ball B of Cn into Cn. The final result we prove in this paper is: If f is a K-quasiconformal holomorphic mapping of B into Cn such that det（f’（0））=1, then f（B） contains a schlicht ball of radius at least （CnK）1-n integral from n=0 to 1(（1+t）n-1/（1-t）2 exp{-（n+1）t/（1-t）}dt, where Cn>1 is a constant depending on n only. and Cn→101/2 as n→∞.

Transfer kinetics of phenol between aqueous phase and N,N-di(1-methy.-hepty.) acetamide in kerosene

The transfer kinetics of phenol between aqueous phase and N,N di(methy. hepty.) acetaminde (N503) in kerosene has been studied using Lewis cell technique. The effects of the factors including the concentrations of phenol in aqueous phase and organic phase, the concentration of N503 in organic phase, the acidity.of aqueous phase, the stirring speed and the temperature on the rates of forward and backward extraction of phenol have been examined. The regularity.of extraction rate has been obtained. According to experimental results, the rates of both forward and backward extraction of phenol might be controlled by.diffusion process. The diffusion step of phenol from aqueous phase to interface for forward extraction and from interface to aqueous phase for backward extraction might be the rate controlling steps.

In the past two decades, organic solar cells （OSCs） have at- tracted significant attention owing to their merits of achieving light-weight, flexible, low-cost devices [1,2]. Ternary.OSC as an efficient way.to improve the power conversion efficiencies （PCEs） of OSCs has inspired great interest from researchers to investigate ternary.OSCs and result in many.efficient de- vices. Ternary.OSCs allow collecting high- and low-energy.photons by.separated semiconductors in a single active lay.r to minimize the thermalization loss and broaden absorption range to improve the performance of OSCs. However, most reported ternary.OSCs only.have active lay.r of about 100 nm in thickness.

Measurement of L X-Ray.Intensity.Ratios for^92U and ^90Th Elements Using Photoionization in an External Magnetic Field

L x-ray.intensity.ratios Le/Lγ, Lα/L7 and Lβ/Lγ for ^92U and ^90Th are measured by.using 59.5keV incident photon energy.at 110° and 125° scattering angles. The samples are located in the external magnetic field of intensities ±0.15T, ±0.30T, ±0.45T, ±0.60T and ±0.75T. The experimental results obtained for B = 0 are compared with the theoretical values calculated using Scofield＇s tables based on the Hartree Slater theory. The contribution to the alignment of the external magnetic field is discussed. It is observed that the L x-ray.intensity.ratios decrease with the increasing magnetic field intensity.

On the solution of Stokes equations for plane boundaries

In a recent paper (Li et al., Acta Mech. Sin. 31, 32-44, 2015), the authors claimed that the general solution of steady.Stokes flows can be compactly.expressed using only.two harmonic functions. They.present two cases of a flat plate translating through a viscous fluid. The present paper shows that such a two-harmonic solution does not describe the rotation of a circular plate in an unbounded fluid and thus confirms that at least three independent harmonics are required to express the general solution of Stokes equations.

Mathematical modelling of axonal microtubule bundles under dy.amic torsion

Owing to its viscoelastic nature, axon exhibits a stress rate-dependent me- chanical behavior. An extended tension-shear chain model with Kelvin-Voigt viscoelas- ticity.is developed to illustrate the micromechanical behavior of the axon under dy.amic torsional conditions. Theoretical closed-form expressions are derived to predict the de- formation, stress transfer, and failure mechanism between microtubule （MT） and tau protein while the axon is sheared dy.amically. The results obtained from the present an- aly.ical solutions demonstrate how the MT-tau interface length, spacing between the tau proteins, and loading rate affect the mechanical properties of axon. Moreover, it is found that the MTs are more prone to rupture due to the contributions from the viscoelastic effects. Under the torsional force, the MTs are so long that the stress concentrates at the loaded end where axonal MTs will break. This MT-tau protein dy.amics model can help to understand the underly.ng pathology.and molecular mechanisms of axonal injury. Additionally. the emphasis of this paper is on the micromechanical behavior of axon, whereas this theoretical model can be equally.applicable to other soft or hard tissues, owning the similar fibrous structure.
