Evaluations of wavefront aberrations and corneal surface regularity in dry eye patients measured with OPD Scan Ⅲ

AIM: To compare the wavefront aberrations and corneal surface regularity between dry eye(DE) patients and normal subjects and assess its diagnostic performance for DE measured with OPD Scan-Ⅲ.METHODS: Fifty right eyes of 50 DE patients and 31 right eyes of normal subjects were *** examinations for ocular surface including logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution best-corrected distance visual acuity(logMAR BCVA) the ocular surface disease index(OSDI), tear film break-up time(TBUT) and corneal fluorescein staining(CFS).OPD Scan-Ⅲ was used to measure anterior corneal aberrations including total corneal aberrations, high order aberration(HOA), coma, trefoil, spherical aberration(SA), standard deviation of corneal power(SDP), surface regularity index(SRI) and surface asymmetry index(SAI).Statistical analysis were assessed with nonparametric tests and Spearman’s *** parameters were also analyzed for sensitivity, specificity, and receiver operating characteristics(ROC) ***: Wavefront aberrations parameters including total corneal aberrations, HOA, coma, trefoil, and SA in DE group were significantly higher than those in normal group(P<0.001).Corneal surface regularity parameters including SRI and SAI in DE group were significantly higher than both in normal group(P<0.05).All the wavefront aberrations parameters had significant correlations with ocular surface parameters(P<0.05).The logMAR BCVA had positive correlations with SAI and SRI(all P<0.001).CFS scores had positive correlations with SAI and SRI(all P<0.001).All the wavefront aberrations parameters showed good diagnosis sensitivity and specificity, however, the corneal regularity parameters showed only good specificity but poor *** cut-off value selected for trefoil in diagnosis DE showed the highest area under the curve(AUC, 0.921) values as compared to the other parameters with sensitivity of 0.955 and specificity of ***: Wavefront aberrations and corne

AIM To investigate the efficacy and safety of stellate ganglion block for the treatment of patients with chronic ulcerative *** A total of 120 randomly selected patients with chronic ulcerative colitis treated in Cangzhou Central Hospital from January 2014 to January 2016 were included in this study. These patients were divided into two groups: control group(n = 30), patients received oral sulfasalazine treatment; experimental group(n = 90), patients received stellate ganglion block treatment. Clinical symptoms and disease activity in these two groups were compared before and after treatment using endoscopy. Blood was collected from patients on day 0, 10, 20 and 30 after treatment. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to determine interleukin-8(IL-8) level. The changes in IL-8 level post-treatment in the two groups were compared using repeated measures analysis of *** After treatment, clinical symptoms and disease activity were shown to be alleviated by endoscopy in both the control and experimental groups. However, patients in the control group did not have obvious abdominal pain relief. In addition, the degree of pain relief in the experimental group was statistically better than that in the control group(P < 0.05). Ten days after treatment, IL-8 level was found to be significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05). In addition, adverse events were significantly higher in the control group than in the experimental group, and the difference was statistically significant(χ~2 = 33.215, P = 0.000).CONCLUSION The application of stellate ganglion block effectively improves treatment efficacy in chronic ulcerative colitis, relieves clinical symptoms in patients, and reduces the level of inflammatory factors. Furthermore, this approach also had a positive impact on the disease to a certain extent.

BACKGROUND Mild cognitive impairment(MCI)has a high risk of progression to Alzheimer’s *** disease is often accompanied by sleep disorders,and whether sleep disorders have an effect on brain function in patients with MCI is *** To explore the near-infrared brain function characteristics of MCI with sleep *** A total of 120 patients with MCI(MCI group)and 50 healthy subjects(control group)were *** subjects underwent the functional near-infrared spec-troscopy *** baseline data,Mini-Mental State Examination,Montreal Cognitive Assessment scale,fatigue severity scale(FSS)score,sleep parameter,and oxyhemoglobin(Oxy-Hb)concentration and peak time of functional near-infrared spectroscopy test during the task *** relationship between Oxy-RESULTS Compared with the control group,the FSS score of the MCI group was higher(t=11.310),and the scores of Pittsburgh sleep quality index,sleep time,sleep efficiency,nocturnal sleep disturbance,and daytime dysfunction were higher(Z=-10.518,-10.368,-9.035,-10.661,-10.088).Subjective sleep quality and total sleep time scores were lower(Z=-11.592,-9.924).The sleep efficiency of the MCI group was lower,and the awakening frequency,rem sleep latency period,total sleep time,and oxygen desaturation index were higher(t=5.969,5.829,2.887,3.003,5.937).The Oxy-Hb concentration at T0,T1,and T2 in the MCI group was lower(t=14.940,11.280,5.721),and the peak time was higher(t=18.800,13.350,9.827).In MCI patients,the concentration of Oxy-Hb during T0 was negatively correlated with the scores of Pittsburgh sleep quality index,sleep time,total sleep time,and sleep efficiency(r=-0.611,-0.388,-0.563,-0.356).It was positively correlated with sleep efficiency and total sleep time(r=0.754,0.650),and negatively correlated with oxygen desaturation index(r=-0.561)and FSS score(r=-0.526).All comparisons were P<*** Patients with MCI and sleep disorders have lower near-infrared brain function than norm

An anthraquinone-based Cu(I) cyclic trinuclear complex for photo-catalyzing C–C coupling reactions

Development of transition metal-based photocatalysts with low cost, strong visible light absorption, and high efficiency is a longstand pursuit for advanced organic synthesis, yet remains highly challenging. In this article, an anthraquinone-based copper(I)cyclic trinuclear complex(1) was designed and it featured strong visible light absorption, high charge separation efficiency and photochemical properties. Complex 1 as a heterogeneous photocatalyst can efficiently catalyze homo-coupling of terminal alkynes and denitrification-oxidative coupling reaction between hydrazinopyridine and terminal alkynes with excellent yield(up to 99%), broad substrate tolerance(27 examples) and superior reusability(up to 10 cycles without loss of performance) under mild conditions.

High-performance Si/VO_(2)-nanorod heterojunction photodetector based on photothermoelectric effect for detecting human radiation

As a typical candidate of optoelectronic materials,vanadium dioxide(VO_(2))has wide applications in photodetectors(PDs),but is still challenging in largely enhancing the photodetecting performance for low-power human ***,high-performance Si/VO_(2)nanorods(NRs)heterojunction PDs based on the photothermoelectric(PTE)effect are *** uniform VO_(2)-NRs array films were deposited on Si by using magnetron sputtering technique,and a Si/VO_(2)heterojunctions were *** device exhibits a four-stage photoresponse and broadband photoresponse from ultraviolet to long-wavelength *** from the unique nanorods structure and the strong PTE effect,the fabricated device exhibits a large enhancement of the photodetecting performance,showing an ultrahigh photodetectivity of 1.6×10^(13)Jones and ultrafast response rates with a risingedge time of~65.0μs,three orders of magnitude higher than other VO_(2)-based ***,the device exhibits unique abilities to detect human radiation even when the human fingers are far away from the device surface up to 10.0 ***,the fabricated Si/VO_(2)devices can also be applied as breath sensors to distinguish different breathing *** results supply an effective route to design high-performance photodetectors toward detecting human thermal radiation and respiration.

A Single-wavelength NIR-triggered Polymer for in Situ Generation of Peroxynitrite (ONOO^(−)) to Enhance Phototherapeutic Efficacy

Phototherapies including photodynamic therapy(PDT)and photothermal therapy(PTT)are the most promising and non-invasive cancer ***,the efficacy of mono-therapy of PDT or PTT is often limited by the phototherapeutic defects such as low light penetration depth of photosensitizers and insufficiency of photothermal ***(ONOO−)has been proved to be an efficient oxidizing and nitrating agent that involves in various physiological and pathological ***,ONOO−produced in tumor site could be an effective treatment in cancer ***,a novel cyanine dye-based(Cy7)polymer nanoplatform is developed for enhanced phototherapy by in situ producing ONOO−.The Cy7 units in the nanoparticles can not only be served as the photosensitizer to produce reactive oxygen species(ROS)including singlet oxygen and superoxide anion for PDT,but also be used as a heat source for PTT and the release of NO gas from N-nitrosated napthalimide(NORM)at the same *** NO can react quickly with superoxide anion to generate ONOO−,the enhanced phototherapy could be achieved by in situ ONOO−produced by PCy7-NO upon exposure to the near infrared(NIR)***,the NIR-triggered Cy7-based nanoplatform for ONOO−-enhanced phototherapy may provide a new perspective in cancer therapy.

Spectra of Free Diquark in the Bethe-Salpeter Approach

In this work, we employ the Bethe-Salpeter （B-S） equation to investigate the spectra of free diquarks and their B-S wave functions. We find that the B-S approach can be consistently applied to study the diqaurks with two heavy quarks or one heavy and one light quarks, but for two light-quark systems, the results are not reliable. There are a few free parameters in the whole scenario which can only be fixed phenomenologically. Thus, to determine them, one has to study baryons which are composed of quarks and diquarks.
