The efficacy of *** adjuvant chemotherapy on biliary tract cancer after R0 resection

Background: The optimal treatment strategy for biliary tract cancer(BTC) after curative?intent resection remains con?troversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of fluoropyrimidine?based adjuvant chemotherapy for BTC patients undergoing microscopically margin?negative(R0) ***: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of BTC patients who underwent curative?intent R0 resection. Patients were eligible if they received either fluoropyrimidine?based adjuvant chemotherapy or observation after R0 ***: A total of 153 patients were included. In the entire patient cohort, no significant differences were observed in 5?year overall survival(OS) rates(48.4% vs. 39.6%, P = 0.439) or 3?year recurrence?free survival(RFS) rates(49.1% vs. 39.5%, P = 0.299) between patients who received fluoropyrimidine?based adjuvant chemotherapy or observation. However, for patients with stages Ⅱ and Ⅲ BTC, chemotherapy significantly improved 5?year OS rate(52.4% vs. 35.6%, P = 0.002) and 3?year RFS rate(55.5% vs. 39.1%, P = 0.021) compared with ***: Fluoropyrimidine?based adjuvant chemotherapy may prolong the survival of patients with stages Ⅱ and Ⅲ BTC after R0 resection.

Dear Editor,Influenza A viruses cause pandemics at an interval of approximately 10-40 years,and pigs are regarded as a＂mixing vessel＂because they are easily infected with avian and human influenza viruses（Ito et al.,1998）.According to previous studies,H3N2,H1N2,and H1N1 subtypes o（swine influenza viruses have been detected in Korean pigs （Pascua et al., 2013; kim et al., 2014; Song et al., 2007）. Moreover, a novel H3N2 influenza virus containing the matrix （34） gene from a 2009 pandemic influenza virus was detected in Korean pigs in 2013 （Pascua et al., 2013）, an H1N2 influenza virus con- taining the internal genes from a 2009 pandemic influ- enza virus was found in Korean pigs in 2014 （kim et al., 2014）, and an H1N1 influenza virus containing all genes from the classical swine influenza viruses was isolated from Korean pigs in 2007 （Song et al., 2007）.

BACKGROUND Acute myeloid leukemia(AML)harboring 11q23 translocations is classified as therapy-related AML in patients who have undergone prior treatment with cytotoxic *** have been only a few reports of AML that subsequently developed during imatinib mesylate(IM)treatment for gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs).CASE SUMMARY A 63-year-old woman was diagnosed with a hepatic GIST recurrence in April 2012;she was administered IM 400 mg/*** November 2015,she developed dyspnea with pancytopenia while IM treatment was continued for 42 mo.A chromosome study using a bone marrow sample showed a 46,XX karyotype with t(11;19)(q23;p13.1)in 22 of 26 analyzed metaphase *** in situ hybridization using the locus-specific indicator(11q23)gene break-apart probe showed positive rearrangement in 82%of interphase ***-transcription polymerase chain reactions subsequently confirmed the KMT2A/ELL *** achieved complete response with incomplete neutrophil recovery with two decitabine treatment *** the third cycle of decitabine,the disease relapsed,and she refused further *** died of hemorrhagic stroke 5 mo after *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first report of AML with KMT2A gene rearrangements in a patient with a GIST receiving IM *** Physicians should consider the potential risks of developing hematologic malignancies,including therapy-related AML,in patients with GISTs receiving IM treatment.

Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)have drawn significant attention owing to their high theoretical discharge capacity and energy ***,the dissolution of long-chain polysulfides into the electrolyte during the charge and discharge process(“shuttle effect”)results in fast capacity fading and inferior electrochemical *** this study,Mn_(2)O_(3)with an ordered mesoporous structure(OM-Mn_(2)O_(3))was designed as a cathode host for LSBs via KIT-6 hard templating,to effectively inhibit the polysulfide shuttle ***-Mn_(2)O_(3)offers numerous pores to confine sulfur and tightly anchor the dissolved polysulfides through the combined effects of strong polar-polar interactions,polysulfides,and sulfur chain *** OM-Mn_(2)O_(3)/S composite electrode delivered a discharge capacity of 561 mAh g^(-1) after 250 cycles at 0.5 C owing to the excellent performance of OM-Mn_(2)O_(3).Furthermore,it retained a discharge capacity of 628mA h g^(-1) even at a rate of 2 C,which was significantly higher than that of a pristine sulfur electrode(206mA h g^(-1)).These findings provide a prospective strategy for designing cathode materials for high-performance LSBs.

Development and application of a multi-step porcine in vitro system to evaluate feedstuffs and feed additives for their efficacy in nutrient digestion, digesta characteristics, and intestinal immune responses

In vitro model provides alternatives to the use of live animals in research. In pig nutrition, there has been a tremendous increase in in vivo research over the decades. Proper utilization of in vitro models could provide a screening tool to reduce the needs of in vivo studies, research duration, cost, and the use of animals and feeds. This study aimed to develop a multi-step porcine in vitro system to simulate nutrient digestion and intestinal epithelial immune responses affected by feedstuffs and feed additives. Seven feedstuffs(corn, corn distillers dried grains with solubles [corn DDGS], barley, wheat, soybean meal, soy protein concentrates, and Corynebacterium glutamicum cell mass [CGCM]), feed enzymes(xylanase and phytase), and supplemental amino acids(arginine, methionine, and tryptophan), were used in this in vitro evaluation for their efficacy on digestibility, digesta characteristics, and intestinal health compared with the results from previously published in vivo studies. All in vitro evaluations were triplicated. Data were analyzed using Mixed procedure of SAS9.4. Evaluations included(1) nutrient digestibility of feedstuffs,(2) the effects of feed enzymes, xylanase and phytase, on digestibility of feedstuffs and specific substrates, and(3) the effects of amino acids, arginine, tryptophan, and methionine, on anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-heat stress statuses showing their effects(P < 0.05) on the measured items. Differences in dry matter and crude protein digestibility among the feedstuffs as well as effects of xylanase and phytase were detected(P < 0.05), including xylo-oligosaccharide profiles and phosphorus release from phytate. Supplementation of arginine, tryptophan, and methionine modulated(P < 0.05) cellular inflammatory and oxidative stress responses. Image enhancement with intensity transformation on embedding space

In recent times,an image enhancement approach,which learns the global transformation function using deep neural networks,has gained ***,many existing methods based on this approach have a limitation:their transformation functions are too simple to imitate complex colour transformations between low-quality images and manually retouched high-quality *** order to address this limitation,a simple yet effective approach for image enhancement is *** proposed algorithm based on the channel-wise intensity transformation is ***,this transformation is applied to the learnt embedding space instead of specific colour spaces and then return enhanced features to *** this end,the authors define the continuous intensity transformation(CIT)to describe the mapping between input and output intensities on the embedding ***,the enhancement network is developed,which produces multi-scale feature maps from input images,derives the set of transformation functions,and performs the CIT to obtain enhanced *** experiments on the MIT-Adobe 5K dataset demonstrate that the authors’approach improves the performance of conventional intensity transforms on colour space ***,the authors achieved a 3.8%improvement in peak signal-to-noise ratio,a 1.8%improvement in structual similarity index measure,and a 27.5%improvement in learned perceptual image patch ***,the authors’algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives on three image enhancement datasets:MIT-Adobe 5K,Low-Light,and Google HDRþ.
