Despite the precise controllability of droplet samples in digital microfluidic(DMF)systems,their capability in isolating single cells for long-time culture is still limited:typically,only a few cells can be captured on an *** fabricating small-sized hydrophilic micropatches on an electrode aids single-cell capture,the actuation voltage for droplet transportation has to be significantly raised,resulting in a shorter lifetime for the DMF chip and a larger risk of damaging the *** this work,a DMF system with 3D microstructures engineered on-chip is proposed to form semi-closed micro-wells for efficient single-cell isolation and long-time *** optimum results showed that approximately 20%of the micro-wells over a 30×30 array were occupied by isolated single *** addition,low-evaporation-temperature oil and surfactant aided the system in achieving a low droplet actuation voltage of 36V,which was 4 times lower than the typical 150 V,minimizing the potential damage to the cells in the droplets and to the DMF *** exemplify the technological advances,drug sensitivity tests were run in our DMF system to investigate the cell response of breast cancer cells(MDA-MB-231)and breast normal cells(MCF-10A)to a widely used chemotherapeutic drug,Cisplatin(Cis).The results on-chip were consistent with those screened in conventional 96-well *** novel,simple and robust single-cell trapping method has great potential in biological research at the single cell level.

AIM:To determine the glycemic index(GI)and glycemic load(GL)values of Chinese traditional foods in hong ***:Fifteen healthy subjects(8 males and 7 females)volunteered to consume either glucose or one of 23 test foods after 10-14 h overnight *** blood glucose concentrations were analyzed immediately before,15,30,45,60,90 and 120 min after food consumption using capillary blood *** GI value of each test food was calculated by expressing the incremental area under the blood glucose response curve(IAUC)value for the test food as a percentage of each subject's average IAUC value for the *** GL value of each test food was calculated as the GI value of the food multiplied by the amount of the available carbohydrate in a usual portion size,divided by ***:Among all the 23 Chinese traditional foods tested,6 of them belonged to low GI foods(Tuna Fish Bun,Egg Tart,Green Bean Dessert,Chinese Herbal Jelly,Fried Rice Vermicelli in Singapore-style,and Spring Roll),10 of them belonged to moderate GI foods(Baked Barbecued Pork Puff,Fried Fritter,"Mai-Lai"Cake,"Pineapple"Bun,Fried Rice Noodles with Sliced Beef,Barbecue Pork Bun,Moon Cakes,Glutinous Rice Ball,Instant Sweet Milky Bun,and Salted Meat Rice Dumpling),the others belonged to high GI foods(Fried Rice in Yangzhou-Style,Sticky Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf,Steamed Glutinous Rice Roll,Jam and Peanut Butter Toast,Plain Steamed Vermicelli Roll,Red Bean Dessert,and Frozen Sweet Milky Bun).CONCLUSION:The GI and GL values for these Chinese traditional foods will provide some valuable information to both researchers and public on their food preference.

In the field of several complex variables, the Greene-Krantz Conjecture, whose consequences would be far reaching, has yet to be proven. The conjecture is as follows： Let D be a smoothly bounded domain in Cn. Suppose there exists {gj} C Aut（D） such that {gj（z）} accumulates at a boundary point p ∈δD for some z C D. Then DD is of finite type at p. In this paper, we prove the following result, yielding further evidence to the probable veracity of this important conjecture： Let D be a bounded convex domain in C2 with C2 boundary. Suppose that there is a sequence {gj} Aut（D） such that {gj（z）} accumulates at a boundary point for some point z ∈ D. Then if p E OD is such an orbit accumulation point, OD contains no non-trivial analytic variety passing through p.

Line surveys of complex molecules with millimeter and sub-millimeter telescopes are important for probing the physical and chemical environments of massive star forming regions(MSFRs).We present a molecular line survey with the Submillimeter Array(SMA) in the frequency ranges of 220.3–222.3 GHz and 230.3–232.3 GHz toward G10.6-0.4, the brightest star forming core in the W31 complex. Ninety-nine transitions from 22 molecular species and their isotopologues are identified. The moment 0 images of typical molecules show a compact core which is concentrated at the continuum peak position. Based on the local thermodynamic equilibrium assumption, the molecular line data are modeled. The rotational temperatures of those molecular species range from 96 to 178 K and their column densities range from 2.0×1014to 3.7×1017cm-2. The observational data suggest that all complex molecules are located in a warm environment. Chemical environments of the molecules are discussed. We compared molecular abundances and gas temperatures in G10.6-0.4 with those in other MSFRs, and found that gas temperatures and fractional abundances of specific molecules in G10.6-0.4 are similar to the typical MSFR W51 North, suggesting that there are similar physical and chemical environments in these two MSFRs.

Background:We evaluated factors associated with eczema severity in ***:Nottingham Eczema Severity Score(NESS),family and personal history of atopy,skin prick test for common food and aeroallergens,highest serum IgE level and eosinophil count were *** with paired NESSs(childhood-NESS is NESS performed at10 years)were further ***:Adolescence-NESS(n=383 patients)was associated with eczema onset in infancy,dust mite and food allergen sensitization,dietary avoidance,use of wet wrap,traditional Chinese medicine,immunomodulant(azathioprine or cyclosporine),high IgE level,eosinophil count,but not with family/personal history of ***-two patients had both childhood-NESS and adolescence-NESS(mean follow-up of 6.8 years)showing that adolescence-NESS was associated with childhood-NESS severity grades(P=0.034).Of these patients,48%remained in the same severity grades,whereas 39%improved,and 13%deteriorated from childhood to ***:It is not possible to assure parents that their child can outgrow *** eczema prognosis research,long-term follow-up is warranted.

Chronic hepatitis B(CHB)-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a major health problem in AsianPacific *** therapy reduces,but does not eliminate the risk of *** would be a heavy financial burden in most low and middle economic countries if all CHB patients received antiviral therapy and HCC ***,there is a need for accurate risk prediction to assist prognostication,decisions on the need for antiviral therapy and HCC surveillance.A few wellestablished risk factors for HCC,namely advanced age,male gender,high viral load,cirrhosis etc.,are the core components of three HCC risk scores:CU-HCC,GAGHCC and REACH-B *** 3 scores were confirmed to be accurate in predicting HCC up to 10 years in treatment-na ve *** validity and applicability have recently been demonstrated in a large cohort of entecavir treatment patients.A decrease in risk scores after antiviral therapy translates to a lower risk of *** findings support the application of HCC risk scores in all CHB *** levels of care and different intensities of HCC surveillance should be offered according to the risk profile of *** at risk of HCC should undergo regular HCC surveillance,even when they are receiving antiviral treatment.

β-PbO2 electrodes were prepared by electro-deposition and characterized by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and linear sweep *** confirmed pure β-PbO2 crystals were on the electrode and it had a high oxygen evolution *** photoactivity and photoelectrochemical（PEC） properties of the β-PbO2 electrode were investigated under visible light irradiation（λ 〉 420 nm） for the decolorization of Methylene *** first-order kinetics parameter（Kapp） for dye decolorization using the β-PbO2 electrode achieved 6.71×10-4 min-1 under visible light irradiation,which indicated its excellent visible light-induced *** Kapp of the PEC process was as much as 1.41×10-3 min-1 and was 1.71 times that of visible light irradiation or electrolysis even in the presence of the β-PbO2 electrode.A significant synergetic effect was observed in the PEC *** also employed TiO2 modified β-PbO2 electrodes in this test,which revealed that the TiO2 immobilized on the β-PbO2 electrode inhibited the visible light-induced PEC efficiency despite the amount of TiO2 used for electrode *** β-PbO2 electrode was also superior to the dimensionally stable anode（Ti/Ru0.3Ti0.7O2） in visible light-induced photoactivity and PEC efficiency.

Kidney diseases are a prevalent health problem around the *** therapy used in the current routine treatment for kidney diseases can only delay disease *** of these drugs or treatments can reverse the progression to an end-stage of the ***,it is crucial to explore novel therapeutics to improve patients’quality of life and possibly cure,reverse,or alleviate the kidney *** cells have promising potentials as a form of regenerative medicine for kidney diseases due to their unlimited replication and their ability to differentiate into kidney cells in *** evidences from the administration of stem cells in an experimental kidney disease model suggested that stem cell-based therapy has therapeutic or renoprotective effects to attenuate kidney damage while improving the function and structure of both glomerular and tubular *** review summarises the current stem cell-based therapeutic approaches to treat kidney diseases,including the various cell sources,animal models or in vitro *** challenges of progressing from proof-of-principle in the laboratory to widespread clinical application and the human clinical trial outcomes reported to date are also *** success of cell-based therapy could widen the scope of regenerative medicine in the future.
