Background. Molar pregnancy is an unusual complication of pregnancy whereby abnormal placental tissue proliferates in the absence of a fetus. There is usually a protracted follow- up period where pregnancy is contra- indicated. Whilst the medical outcomes of the disease have been well explored, limited data have evaluated the impact on psychological symptomatology, sexual function, and quality of life. Methods. Institutional ethics approval and individual consent were obtained. All women listed on the hospital molar pregnancy register receiving active follow- up (n = 102) and a random sample of women who had been registered in the previous 30 years (n = 56) were sent a postal survey outlining the purpose of the study and an invitation to participate. Questionnaires included the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and Sexual History Form 12 (SHF- 12). Results. The response rate was 54% . The key findings were that 60% , 55% , and 18% of women scored ≥ 10 on the total HADS, ≥ 8 on HADS- A, and >8 on HADSD, respectively. The presence of children played a protective role and was associated with significantly better psychological function and quality of life. SWLS were in the lower end of ranges reported for community controls (mean of 23.9). chemotherapy had an adverse impact on quality of life ratings (SWLS for chemotherapy yes = 21.7, no = 25). Sexual dysfunction was similar to community samples and was independent of age, time since diagnosis, chemotherapy requirement, and presence of children. Qualitative results complemented the quantitative data with similar emotional themes identified as well as issues related to the medical condition, care, and support networks. conclusion. Women with a molar pregnancy may benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to management that addresses their psychological and sexual needs in addition to medical aspects of care.

In a recent study published in Nature,Gurtner and colleagues identify active eosinophils(A-Eos)as eosinophil subset with anti-bacterial and immune regulatory functions during intestinal disease.1 Due to the combination of human singe cell transcip-tomics with pre-clinical experimental studies,the authors suggest eosinophils as promising targets for clinical intervention in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).Eosinophils are known to exhibit versatile functions at mucosal ***,they can sustain the intestinal epithelial barrier as well as intestinal tissue architecture,communicate with other cell subsets and regulate local immune responses.2 However,despite having been associated with a panoply of different diseases including eosinophilic esophagitis or IBD,3 their role and plasticity in gastrointestinal disorders have not been well characterized.

Hydrogen and Ozone SAW Based Gas Sensors with RF Magnetron Sputtered InO_x and Electron Beam Evaporated SiN_y

Layered Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices with an InO_x/SiN_u/36°YX LiTaO_3 structure were investigated for sensing low concentrations of hydrogen (H_2) and ozone (O_3) at different operating *** sensor consists of a 1μm thick silicon nitride (SiN_y) intermediate layer deposited by electron beam evaporation on a 36°Y-cut X-propagating piezoelectric lithium tantalate (LiTaO_3) substrate and a 100 nm thin indium oxide (InO_x) sensing layer deposited by *** *** device fabrication is described and the performance of the sensor is analyzed in terms of response magnitude as a function of operating *** frequency shifts of 360 kHz for 600μg/g of H_2 and 92 kHz for 40 ng/g O_3 were *** addition,the surface morphology of the deposited films were investigated by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and the chemical composition by X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) to correlate gas-sensing behavior to structural characteristics of the thin film.

Validation of a discrete element model using magnetic resonance measurements

The discrete element model （DEM） is a very promising modelling strategy for two-phase granular systems. However, owing to a lack of experimental measurements, validation of numerical simulations of two-phase granular systems is still an important issue. In this study, a small two-dimensional gas- fluidized bed was simulated using a discrete element model. The dimensions of the simulated bed were 44mm × 10mm × 120 mm and the fluidized particles had a diameter dp = 1.2 mm and density ρp = 1000 kg/m^3. The comparison between DEM simulations and experiments are performed on the basis of time-averaged voidage maps. The drag-law of Beetstra et al. [Beetstra, R., van der Hoef, M.A., ＆ Kuipers,J. A. M. （2007b）. Drag force of intermediate Reynolds number flow past mono- and bidispersed arrays of spheres. AIchE Journal, 53,489-501 ] seems to give the best results. The simulations are fairly insensitive to the coefficient of restitution and the coefficient of friction as long as some route of energy dissipation during particle-particle and particle-wall contact is provided. changing the boundary condition of the gas phase at the side-walls from zero-slip to full-slip does not affect the simulation results. care is to be taken that the cell sizes are chosen so that a reasonable number of particles can be found in a fluid cell.

Magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） gave images of air jets from orifices in the distributor plate of a bed of poppy seeds. Attention focused on two features：（1） The interaction between nearby vertical jets from two, three or four orifices; （2） Wall effects, where one or more orifices created vertical jets near the vertical wall of the cylinder containing the particle bed. The results show that nearby jets are mutually attracted. Likewise a jet near a wall bends out of the vertical, towards the wall, For multiple adjacent jets, the jet lengths show dependence on orifice layout： the lengths are in reasonable agreement with published measurements, by other methods, for single jets. The MRI gives three-dimensional images of the single jets and of multiple jets, separate or merging.

The ESA and cAS SMILE mission orbit is highly elliptical and will pass through multiple radiation *** Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)instrument aboard has a radiation shutter door designed to close when the surrounding radiation flux is *** shutter door will close when passing below an altitude threshold to protect against trapped particles in the Earth’s Van Allen ***,two radiation environments can be approximated based on the shutter door position:open and *** instrument background for the ccDs(charge-coupled Devices)that form the focal plane array of the SXI were evaluated for the two *** to the correlation of the space environment with the solar cycle,the solar minima and maxima,the background was also evaluated at these two *** results demonstrated that the highest instrument background will occur during solar minima due to the main contributing source being Galactic cosmic Rays(GcRs).It was also found that the open background was highest for solar minima and that the closed background was highest during solar *** is due to the radiation shutter door acting as a scattering centre and the changes in the energy flux distribution of the GcRs between the two solar extremes.

Magnetic resonance studies of jets in a gas-solid fluidised bed

Magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） has been used to study the behaviour Of jets at the distributor of a 50 mm diameter fluidised bed of 0.5 mm diameter poppy seeds. Two perforated-plate distributors were examined, containing either 10 or 14 holes, each 1 mm diameter. Ultra-fast MR imaging was able to show the transient nature of the upper parts of the jets, where discrete bubbles are formed. Imaging in 3D showed that the central jets were the longest for flow rates below minimum fluidisation. Above minimum fluidisation, the outer jets, nearest the wall of the fluidised bed, arched inward towards the central axis. In this latter case, interpretation of the time-averaged 3D image required the use of ultra-fast MR imaging to identify the approximate height above the distributor at which discrete bubbles were formed. The apparently continuous void extending along the central axis above this height in the time-averaged 3D image was thus identified, using ultra-fast MR imaging, as representing the averaged paths of released bubbles. Time-averaged MR velocity mapping was also used to identify dead zones of stationary particles resting on the distributor between the jets. The dead zones could be observed when the superficial velocity of the gas approached minimum fluidisation, but they were smaller than those observed at lower gas superficial velocity. comparable images of a single jet through 1.2 mm diameter poppy seeds from MRI and electrical capacitance volume tomography （EcVT） are also demonstrated.
