Aims Species-rich plant communities are hypothesized to be more resistant against plant invasions because they use resources in a more efficient ***,the relative contributions of aboveground competition and belowground interactions for invasion resistance are still poorly *** We compared the performance of Knautia arvensis transplants growing in plots differing in plant diversity both under full competition and with shoots of neighbors tied back to determine the relative strength of aboveground competition in suppressing this test invader without the confounding effect of *** addition,we assessed the effects of belowground competition and soil-borne pathogens on transplant *** Findings Both aboveground competition and plant species richness strongly and independently affected invader *** biomass,height,leaf mass per area and flowering of transplanted individuals of *** decreased with increasing species richness of the host ***-rich and species-poor communities both imposed equally strong aboveground competition on ***,belowground interactions(especially belowground root competition)had strong negative effects on transplant *** addition,the presence of grasses in a plant community further reduced the performance of *** results suggest that belowground competition can render species-rich host communities more suppressive to newly arriving species,thus enhancing community invasion resistance.

Park size and prey density limit occurrence of Eurasian Sparrowhawks in urban parks during winter

Background: Eurasian Sparrowhawks(Accipiter nisus) increasingly represent successful city-dwellers. Thereby, a rich food supply indicated by high numbers of small birds is believed to be the key driver for this bird-eating raptor species to settle in urban environments. However, as small passerine birds show particularly strong antipredator responses, sparrowhawks may not simply focus on patches of highest prey densities, but rather respond strategically to prey behavior, raising the importance of other parameters in determining the occurrence within urban ***: To deepen our knowledge on habitat requirements of urban sparrowhawks, bird surveys were carried out during winter between December 2005 and January 2017 in 36 city parks in Vienna, Austria. Besides food supply also park size, canopy heterogeneity and the connectivity with other green spaces were ***: Occurrence of sparrowhawks was positively affected by increasing park size, prey density and the interaction between both. Bird feeder density and park connectivity with other green spaces were of minor importance in explaining the presence of this species. Canopy heterogeneity didn't affect city park occupancy by Eurasian ***: Our results suggest that large city parks, particularly when characterized by high prey densities, substantially contribute to protect and preserve ecologically important bird species such as raptors within the urban environment—a landscape already struggling with biodiversity losses and functional homogenization.

The Brueckner-Hartree-Fock Equation of State for Nuclear Matter and Neutron Skin

The equation of state for nuclear matter is presented within the Brueckner Hartree-Fock （BHF） scheme, by using the realistic Argonne VI8 or Bonn B two-nucleon potentials plus their corresponding microscopic three-nucleon forces. It is then applied to calculate the properties of finite nuclei within a simple liquid-drop model, and we compare the calculated volume, surface, and Coulomb parameters with the empirical ones from the liquid drop model. Nuclear density distributions and charge radii in good agreement with the experimental data are obtained~ and we predict the neutron skin thickness of various nuclei.

Comparison on global supply chain purchasing strategies based on supply contracts

Quartic coupling and its effect on wetting behaviors in nematic liquid crystals

Based on the fact that rubbed groove patterns also affect the anchoring of liquid crystals at substrates,a quartic coupling is included in constructing the surface energy for a liquid crystal *** phase diagram and the wetting behaviors of the liquid crystal cell,bounded by surfactant-laden interfaces in a magnetic field perpendicular to the substrate are discussed by taking the quartic coupling into *** nematic order increases at the surface while it decreases in the bulk as a result of the introduction of quartic substrate-liquid crystal coupling,indicating that the groove anchoring makes the liquid crystal molecules align more orderly near the substrate than away from *** causes a different wetting behavior：complete wetting.

Progress in the research and application of coal mining with stowing

The development and achievements of modern coal mining with stowing are discussed in this paper. The necessity of developing coal mining with stowing is briefly summarized and internal damage within the strata and external damage on surface induced by longwall working with caving are discussed. Technological features of coal mining with pneumatic stowing in Germany, and fully mechanised coal mining with solid dense stowing in China, are discussed. In German hard coal mining stowing technologies are for technical, infrastructural and economical reasons not applicable. The discussion includes the stowing material transportation system, the stowing machine, and processes at the face. Progressiveness and application universality of China's fully mechanised coal mining with solid dense stowing are illustrated through practical examples with different conditions. Obviously, the fully mechanised coal mine with solid dense stowing can be improved by automaion systems. This paper discusses further developmental potential of the technology.

Role of cytochrome P450 polymorphisms and functions in development of ulcerative colitis

Cytochromes P450 s(CYPs) are terminal enzymes in CYP dependent monooxygenases, which constitute a superfamily of enzymes catalysing the metabolism of both endogenous and exogenous substances. One of their main tasks is to facilitate the excretion of these substances and eliminate their toxicities in most phase 1 reactions. Endogenous substrates of CYPs include steroids, bile acids, eicosanoids, cholesterol, vitamin D and neurotransmitters. About 80% of currently used drugs and environmental chemicals comprise exogenous substrates for CYPs. Genetic polymorphisms of CYPs may affect the enzyme functions and have been reported to be associated with various diseases and adverse drug reactions among different populations. In this review, we discuss the role of some critical CYP isoforms(CYP1 A1, CYP2 D6, CYP2 J2, CYP2 R1,CYP3 A5, CYP3 A7, CYP4 F3, CYP24 A1, CYP26 B1 and CYP27 B1) in the pathogenesis or aetiology of ulcerative colitis concerning gene polymorphisms. In addition, their significance in metabolism concerning ulcerative colitis in patients is also discussed showing a clear underestimation in genetic studies performed so far.
