Efficient algorithms for the simulation of strained heteroepitaxial growth with intermixing in 2+1 dimensions are *** first of these algorithms is an extension of the energy localization method[*** and ***,An energy localization principle and its application to fast kinetic Monte Carlo simulation of heteroepitaxial growth,***.,3(2009),521-538]from1+1 to 2+1 *** approximations of this basic algorithm are then introduced,one of which treats adatoms in a more efficient manner,while the other makes use of an approximation of the change in elastic energy in terms of local elastic energy *** both cases,it is demonstrated that a reasonable level of fidelity is *** are presented showing how the film morphology is affected by misfit and deposition *** addition,simulations of stacked quantum dots are also presented.

We study the properties of two-flavor quark matter in the Dyson-Schwinger model and investigate the possible consequences for hybrid neutron stars,with particular regard to the two-solar-mass *** find that with some extreme values of the model parameters,the mass fraction of two-flavor quark matter in heavy neutron stars can be as high as 30 percent and the possible energy release during the conversion from nucleonic neutron stars to hybrid stars can reach 1052 erg.

We perform a systematic calculation of the equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter at finite temperature within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach with a microscopic three-body force. When applying it to the study of hot kaon condensed matter, we find that the thermal effect is more profound in comparison with normal matter, in particular around the threshold density. Also, the increase of temperature makes the equation of state slightly stiffer through suppression of kaon condensation.

With the complementarity of the nucleonic three-body force,we present the saturation points of symmetric nuclear matter with different interactions adopted within the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock scheme,and a more accurate empirical parameterization function for the equation of state of symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron *** the basis of this fit formula,the symmetry energy and its derivatives are investigated,and ultimately the higher-order coefficient of the isobaric incompressibility for isospin asymmetric nuclear matter is predicted.

Background:There is an urgent need for quantifying the terrestrial carbon sink in the context of global carbon ***,neither the flux measurements,nor the national wood balances fulfil this *** this discussion article we point at various shortcomings and necessary improvements of these approaches in order to achieve a true quantification of the carbon exchange of land ***:We discuss the necessity of incorporating all lateral fluxes,but mainly the export of biomass by harvest,into the flux balance and to recognize feedbacks between management and fluxes to make flux measurements compatible with *** the same time,we discuss the necessity that national reports of wood use need to fully recognize the use of wood for energy *** approaches of establishing an ecosystem carbon balance,fluxes and inventories,have ***:Including harvest and feedbacks by management appears to be the main requirement for the flux approach.A better quantification of wood use for bioenergy seems a real need for integrating the national wood balances into the global carbon cycle.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity *** types of cancer treatments have been developed,such as chemotherapy,surgery,radiotherapy,and ***,these therapies can also kill healthy cells and lead to severe side ***,scientists are looking for new strategies to eliminate cancerous cells ***,nanometer-sized lipid bilayer-enclosed vesicles secreted from various cell types,exist in nearly all body fluids,including blood,breast milk,saliva,urine,bile,pancreatic juice,cerebrospinal,and peritoneal *** carry myriad donor cell-derived bioactive molecules such as proteins,lipids,and RNAs(including microRNA and lncRNA)and can deliver them to both nearby and distant recipient *** to these characteristics,exosomes have attracted great interest in cancer treatment(especially serving as a biological carrier for some drugs,microRNA,lncRNA,inhibitors,and antibodies).In this paper,we will review the current knowledge of exosome therapeutic applications in cancer.

Kinetic Monte Carlo(KMC)is a stochastic model used to simulate crystal ***,most KMC models rely on a pre-defined lattice that neglects dislocations,lattice mismatch and strain *** this paper,we investigate the use of a 3D off-lattice KMC *** test this method by investigating impurity diffusion in a strained FCC *** faster than a molecular dynamics simulation,the most general implementation of off-lattice KMC is much slower than a lattice-based *** improved procedure is achieved for weakly strained systems by precomputing approximate saddle point locations based on unstrained lattice *** this way,one gives up some of the flexibility of the general method to restore some of the computational speed of lattice-based *** addition to providing an alternative approach to nano-materials simulation,this type of simulation will be useful for testing and calibrating methods that seek to parameterize the variation in the transition rates for lattice-based KMC using continuum modeling.

The diagnosis of herbal hepatotoxicity or herb induced liver injury(HILI) represents a particular clinical and regulatory challenge with major pitfalls for the causality *** the day HILI is suspected in a patient,physicians should start assessing the quality of the used herbal product,optimizing the clinical data for completeness,and applying the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences(CIOMS) scale for initial causality *** scale is structured,quantitative,liver specific,and validated for hepatotoxicity *** items provide individual scores,which together yield causality levels of highly probable,probable,possible,unlikely,and *** completion by additional information including raw data,this scale with all items should be reported to regulatory agencies and manufacturers for further *** CIOMS scale is preferred as tool for assessing causality in hepatotoxicity cases,compared to numerous other causality assessment methods,which are inferior on various *** these disputed methods are the Maria and Victorino scale,an insufficiently qualified,shortened version of the CIOMS scale,as well as various liver unspecific methods such as thead hoc causality approach,the Naranjo scale,the World Health Organization(WHO) method,and the Karch and Lasagna *** expert panel is required for the Drug Induced Liver Injury Network method,the WHO method,and other approaches based on expert opinion,which provide retrospective analyses with a long delay and thereby prevent a timely assessment of the illness in question by the *** conclusion,HILI causality assessment is challenging and is best achieved by the liver specific CIOMS scale,avoiding pitfalls commonly observed with other approaches.
