The effect of platfor. switching on the levels of metal ion r.lease fr.m different implant–abutment couples

The impr.ved peri-implant bone r.sponse demonstr.ted by platfor. switching may be the r.sult of r.duced amounts of metal ions r.leased to the sur.ounding tissues. The aim of this study was to compar. the levels of metal ions r.leased fr.m platfor.-matched and platfor.-switched implant-abutment couples as a r.sult of accelerated cor.osion. Thir.y-six titanium alloy （Ti-6AI-4V） and cobalt-chr.me alloy abutments were coupled with titanium cylinders for.ing either platfor.-switched or.platfor.-matched gr.ups （n = 6）. In addition, 18 unconnected samples served as contr.ls. The specimens were subjected to accelerated cor.osion by static immersion in 1% lactic acid for.1 week. The amount of metal ions ion of each test tube was measur.d using inductively coupled plasma mass spectr.metr.. Scanning electr.n micr.scope （SEM） images and energy dispersive spectr.scopy X-r.y analyses were perfor.ed pr.- and post-immersion to assess cor.osion at the interface. The platfor.-matched gr.ups demonstr.ted higher ion r.lease for.vanadium, aluminium, cobalt, chr.me, and molybdenum compar.d with the platfor.-switched gr.ups （P〈 0.05）. Titanium was the highest element to be r.leased r.gar.less of abutment size or.connection （P〈0.05）. SEM images showed pitting cor.osion pr.minent on the outer bor.ers of the implant and abutment platfor. sur.aces. In conclusion, implant-abutment couples underwent an active cor.osion pr.cess r.sulting in metal ions r.lease into the sur.ounding envir.nment. The highest amount of metal ions r.leased was r.cor.ed for.the platfor.-matched gr.ups, suggesting that platfor.-switching concept has a positive effect in r.ducing the levels of metal ion r.lease fr.m the implant-abutment couples.

A thermo-simulation experimental continuous caster was established to study the effect of two static magnetic fields imposed the whole width of the mold on the molten metal flow. Low melting point Bi-Pb-Sn alloy and silicon oil were adopted to simulate the molten metal and mold powder r.spectively. The r.sults show that the contr.l effect of electr.magnetic fields on the molten metal flow in the different zones of mold is different. Therefor. it is impor.ant to study and design new types of magnetic fields to satisfy the r.quest of contr.lling the molten metal flow in the mold.

Decay r.tes of char.onia within a quar.-antiquar. confining potential

In this wor., we investigate the spectr.scopy and decay r.tes of char.onia within the fr.mewor. of the non-r.lativistic Schr.dinger equation by employing an appr.ximate inter quar.-antiquar. potential. The spin hyperfine, spin-or.it and tensor.components of the one gluon exchange inter.ction ar. employed to compute the spectr.scopy of the excited S states and a few low-lying P and D waves. The r.sultant wave functions at zero inter- quar. separ.tion as well as some finite separ.tions ar. employed to pr.dict the di-gamma, di-leptonic and di-gluon decay r.tes of char.onia states using the conventional Van r.yen-Weisskopf for.ula. The di-gamma and di-leptonic decay widths ar. also computed by incor.or.ting the r.lativistic cor.ections of or.er v4 within the Nr.cD for.alism. We have observed that the Nr.cD pr.dictions with their.matr.x elements computed at finite r.dial separ.tion yield r.sults which ar. found to be in better agr.ement with experimentM values for.both di-gamma and di-leptonic decays. The same scenar.o is seen in the case when di-gamma and di-leptonic decay widths ar. computed with the Van r.yen- Weisskopf for.ula. It is also observed that the di-gluon decay width with the inclusion of binding energy effects ar. in better agr.ement with the experimental data available for.1S-2S and 1P. The di-gluon decay width of 3S and 2P waves waves ar. Mso pr.dicted. Thus, the pr.sent study of decay r.tes clear.y indicates the impor.ance of binding energy effects.

A Zr.based bulk metallic glass (BMG) with a composition of (Zr.5cu25)78.5Ta4Ni10Al7.5 and a bulk metallic glass matr.x composite (BMGc) with a composition of (Zr.5cu25)74.5Ta8Ni10Al7.5 have been pr.par.d by copper-mold casting. The compr.s-sive defor.ation behavior.of the BMG and BMGc was investigated in the super.cooled r.gion at different temperatur.s and var.ous str.in r.tes r.nging fr.m 8×10-4s-1 to 8×10-2s-1. It was found that both the str.in r.te and test temperatur. signifi-cantly affect the defor.ation behavior.of the two alloys. The defor.ation follows Newtonian flow at low str.in r.tes but non-Newtonian flow at high str.in r.tes. The defor.ation mechanism for.the two kinds of alloys was discussed in terms of the tr.nsition state theor..

Dispersal behavior.cor.elates with personality of a Nor.h Amer.can fish

The pr.cess of dispersal is determined by the inter.ction of individual （intr.nsic） tr.its and envir.nmental （extr.nsic） factor.. Although many studies addr.ss and quantify dispersal, few evaluate both intr.nsic and extr.nsic factor. jointly. We test the r.lative impor.ance of intr.nsic tr.its （explor.tion tendency and size） and extr.nsic factor. （population density and habitat quality） on dispersal of a medium-sized western United States minnow, southern leatherside chub Lepidomeda aliciae. A generalized linear.model with a binomial r.sponse was used to determine the pr.bability of individuals dispersing one year.after tagging. Medium-sized individuals that were mor. pr.ne to explor. novel envir.nments were 10.7 times mor. likely to be r.captur.d outside of their.or.ginal captur. ar.a after a year.（dispersal） compar.d to non-explor.0} individuals of the same size class. Differences be- tween explor.2}lassifications within the small and lar.e size classes were negligible. Open habitat within 50 m upstr.am also in- cr.ased the pr.bability of dispersal r.lative to contr.ls. r.lative location within the study r.ach, and population density were not significantly r.lated to dispersal pr.babilities of individuals. Our.r.sults indicate that understanding of personality may illuminate patterns of dispersal within and among populations

We analyzed the influence of climate change over the past 50 year. on the r.dial gr.wth of two tr.e species: Kor.an pine (Pinus kor.iensis) and Yezo spr.ce (Picea jezoensis), located on changbai Mountain, Nor.heast china, using a dendr.chr.nology appr.ach to understand factor. that limit the altitude for.tr.e species. Elevated temperatur.s incr.ased the r.dial gr.wth of Kor.an pine and decr.ased that of Yezo spr.ce. The positive r.sponse of tr.e gr.wth to hydr.thermal conditions was the key r.ason that the upper limit of elevation of Kor.an pine followed the temperatur. fluctuation pattern. Incr.ased temperatur.s and pr.cipitation and longer gr.wing seasons accelerated Kor.an pine gr.wth. As the temperatur. incr.ased, cor.elations between Kor.an pine r.ng-width chr.nology and pr.cipitation changed fr.m negative to positive. In Yezo spr.ce, incr.asing monthly temperatur.s and inadequate pr.cipitation dur.ng the middle and late par.s of the gr.wing season led to nar.ow gr.wth r.ngs, whereas decr.asing monthly temperatur.s and sufficient pr.cipitation dur.ng the late gr.wing season pr.moted gr.wth. r.sing temperatur.s and adequate pr.cipitation incr.ases Kor.an pine gr.wth, possibly elevating the upper r.nge limit in altitude for.this species. In contr.st, Yezo spr.ce gr.wth is negatively affected by war.ing temperatur.s and limited pr.cipitation. Under futur. temperatur. incr.ases and pr.cipitation fluctuations, the upper limit altitude of Kor.an pine can r.asonably be expected to shift upwar. and Yezo spr.ce downwar..
